  • This is awesome! Thank you for the inspiration. May be time to try my hand at making skyr. I’ve just been buying it when it’s BOGO at Publix. I’ve been brewing kombucha for years, grind my own wheat to bake bread, and just started growing blue oyster mushrooms- I’m all about foodie DIY!
  • My diary is open, and I log pretty accurately. I welcome supportive friends!
  • @springlering62 Excellent! Thank you for sharing. I have a few sugar free pudding packs in the pantry as well as plenty of skyr, so I’ll be trying that today. We tried the pineapple, and it was super similar to Dole Whip which is one of my favorite Disney treats. Allulose is a very low calorie sweetener. It’s a type of…
  • @springlering62 I received my Ninja Creami a few days ago. It took some finagling with recipes, but now I am completely enamored with it. I did one with 1 cup of plain skyr, 1 tbsp of allulose, and 1.5 tbsp Walden Farms caramel sauce. It’s like a powdered frozen butterbeer, and I LOVE it. Super refreshing and only 100…
  • YASSSS to the red beans and rice! I am originally from south Louisiana, and this is a delicacy. I can make them from scratch, but that’s not nearly as easy as opening a can of Blue Runner. My parents bring me crates of the large cans every time they visit. Finding calories really is a huge deal. That happened to me today…
  • That sounds reasonable. I have been losing 1-1.5 lbs a week. I’m thinking I may push through it for a few months longer to get closer to a healthy weight range, then slow down to a more sustainable pace. I’ve added more yoga to my routine as well which seems to really help. Is it joint pain that’s limiting for you,…
  • @springlering62 Thank you SO MUCH for this fabulous thread. I’ve been reading through it for about a week any time I have a few extra minutes. Thanks to you I now have a Ninja Creami in my Amazon cart. There are so many things I wanted to respond to, but I’ll just say this one- thank you very much for your shoutout to…
  • I feel this. I use an Apple Watch, but same concept. I have my calorie goals set a little lower than they need to be, and I originally planned to eat back all my exercise calories. However I’ve noticed that most of the time I don’t need to since my appetite has decreased and I get full faster. I’m also not eating sweets…
  • If you are truly consuming at or below your calorie needs and still gaining weight especially if it’s paired with swelling in your feet/legs and shortness of breath, go see your doctor and have blood work drawn. A rapid increase in water weight can indicate a heart or kidney problem.
  • Hi there! Serial starter here, back at it after a long hiatus. Veggies this week are truffle and black garlic roasted broccoli and cauliflower, fresh yellow pear tomatoes from the garden (I live in Florida) with cucumbers and balsamic, steamed green beans, and red beans over brown rice. (I know they’re technically a…
  • Hey all, this is my first time ever doing a dry January, or striving for any AF goal actually. It’s partially for calorie control, partially for the anti-inflammatory effects on my autoimmune issues, and partially because I got so inebriated on Christmas Eve that I vomited for five hours straight. Getting sick like that…
  • I think people have some great advice here. I’d go a step further and say if you have the ability to get a coach of any kind, do it. Could be a Registered Dietitian, a personal trainer, a health coach from your insurance provider, our just a buddy who will stay accountable with you. Having someone you can check in with…
  • I buy the pre-made frozen cocktail shrimp platters at Publix when they go on sale. I keep one defrosted in the fridge, and it’s my go-to low cal/high protein snack most days. I also use sparkling water with lime as a cocktail sub when my friends are drinking and I don’t want to waste the calories. It feels fancy so I’m not…
  • I feel this a little too much. 😂 I can’t be thinner than my sister though- she’s built willowy while I am curvy. If I get within ten pounds of her weight I will look unhealthy thin. I just want to not look overweight next to her.
  • I want to look as fit as I am. I can hike mountains all day, throw around heavy weights, and propel myself out the water up to my belly button when treading water. I've run a marathon at this weight. My blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar are all fabulous, plus my resting heart rate is in the low 50s. But... I'm…
  • My gym in Florida is open, and I've been going back sporadically for the strength workouts I don't have equipment for at home. It's a very large place with high ceilings and machines nicely spaced out, so I just make sure to stay away from the other people and wipe down the equipment both before and after use. People have…
  • I gained ~6 lbs within the first few months, but that was partially due to the stress of moving into a new house. I'm sure some of it was water weight as well. I've already lost 3 of those, and I intend to lose the rest (and then some) in the next month.
  • This is a great goal! One of the best practices for hiking for me is a stair climber. Start very slow. Alternatively, if you have access to even just one regular flight of stairs, you can practice going up and down. The down is just as important since it works a lot of the stabilizer muscles. Another thing you can do to…
  • Xtreme Wellness High Fiber tortillas- 50 kcal and 5 g protein. I fill them with a homemade Greek salad made with chickpeas, lentils, tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, red onion, olives, and feta (small amount, optional) which gives me 176 kcal and 9 g protein per cup. I'm also big on StarKist Tuna Creations packs,…
  • I do not think this is an "easy" thing to do, though I believe it's different for each person. The concepts are simple- move more, consume less calories and/or more nutritious things- but working to change a lifetime of habits can take a great deal of discipline and consistent effort. It's so easy to fall into old habits…
  • Wow. The pseudoscience is everywhere! She straight up ignored your obvious success. I had a conversation with a random guy once who told me he lost 80 pounds and counting on the "HCG" diet, told me that the HCG shots prevented the loss of lean body mass while only eating 500 kcal/day, so it was safe. I have my MS in…
  • Amazing. We are planning to go to Washington in the next year for some hiking. I'll be reaching out to you for tips!
  • Walking is amazing. It's one of my favorite things to do- easy, enjoyable, and beneficial. It not only burns calories, but it is also one of the most natural movements you can do and will set you up for better functional health for many years to come. Keep it up!
  • Next time someone asks me how I stay in shape, I'm going to tell them I take powdered unicorn horn.
  • Petty Betty here... I have a 20-year high school reunion in ~2 1/2 years. I didn't go to the 10-year because I was too busy, but I think I'll go to the next one. I was the "fat kid" growing up, got made fun of a lot in my younger years. I don't hold a grudge- kids are mean, and I'd rather judge people by how they behave as…
  • I am just under 5'6", currently weighing around 160 lbs, and goal weight is somewhere between 140-150. I'm already fit and healthy, so that goal is straight up vanity. I suspect based on my build (reasonably muscular with most weight in my bootay) and history that I might have visible abs at 140.
  • This is by far the best post I've seen on this subject: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10613774/the-importance-of-willpower-for-weight-loss/p1 I highly recommend it. Sometimes I go back to read it just to remind myself of where my willpower and discipline come from and how to keep them going without…
  • I am drooling over all these photos. We just got back from North Carolina last week, and the mountain hikes were amazing. Waterfalls and mountain overlooks are my favorite. Next stop will probably be Great Smoky Mountains National Park sometime in September or October. Anyone who wants a hiking buddy, feel free to add me!…
  • We went hiking in North Carolina this week and did about 20 miles. Not only did I cover the mileage with no problem without having hiked in almost a year, but I was the leader/navigator of our group. My calves were only sore for a couple days, and unlike last year it it did not prevent me from doing any trails.
  • Soooo I posted this two weeks ago, and this is how things have gone so far: - I've lost ~4 pounds in 3 weeks. Some of that was definitely water starting off. - I am lifting weights 3 x week alternating upper and lower body which is my usual for the last year, so I did not change it. - I am doing cardio every day which is…
