@sijomial I've joined the Strava club - I'm @Claire R :-) thanks again

Thanks for all these replies. I was wondering how the 'fitness goals' impacted, so good to hear they have no bearing on calorie adjustment. I've gone with MFP automatic suggestions as you've all pretty much recommended, based on being sedentary all day, set to lose 0.5lb per week. That brings me in at just under 1400…

I wonder if this is the thing. The long bike ride I did this weekend had me at 1650 calories (it was 57 miles of road cycling with a fast group, it was exhausting!!). I don't reckon I ate anywhere near 1650 calories on top of my normal calorie allowance that day, so this might explain why I can't stop eating for the rest…

OK, lovely patient people. I'm going to ask how you do the maths to get the right calorie goal, because this is what confuses me every time. I've chosen 'guided setup' to set my goals on MFP. Opted for 'sedentary' - as I work full time, drive to work and sit at a computer all day. Selected to lose 0.5lbs a week. This has…

Thank you @shadow2soul - great video! I am brilliant at tracking (to the point of obsessiveness) for a period of time - maybe a month or so - then something happens, I eat something that can't be weighed/measured, or I'm with my boyfriend for the weekend for example, and it triggers 6 months of MFP abstinence, logging…

Please can I join in on this conversation. This is totally me. It is a constant anguish and I am starting to seriously question whether I am on my way to an eating disorder. It is such a relief to see it's not just me! I just can't get a grip on it at all.

Thank you. 2000 calories is probably what I'm eating at the moment and I can feel jeans getting tighter! I didn't mention my age, I'm 43. I'm very lucky in that I've never really had to worry about my weight; I am always 140 - 145lbs, <140 seems impossible to hit/maintain. I'm usually at 142-145lbs when I adopt an…

Thanks for all your comments. I don't have an option for a cheaper gym. There are two in my little town and this is the cheapest. Also offers classes (including circuits, Bodypump, spin etc) so if I was looking for a class based approach I might as well pay for membership as opposed to paying £5 a time for individual…

I'm a runner. I'm not sure you need to be able to run 10 miles to get your 5k time down. My advice would be to join a friendly running club (they're not all intimidating) and get in some sessions where you're doing some interval/speedwork. It's not as bad as it sounds. My old club would offer coached track sessions where…

Hello! I’m Claire, 5’8 from the UK I know I don’t have lots to lose but it’s more about curbing unhealthy eating habits and pretty much always obsessing about food I am/was a runner and I’ve always used running as an excuse to eat what I like. Now injured so I’ve given up running this year and instead concentrating on…

Gatecrashing - just for today.. Logging everything but not aiming for any particular calorie goal Eating mindfully and well Have a large glass of water as soon as I get to work, rather than a cup of tea + morning + pm snacks all by 09:30 Focus on work Recognise and acknowledge stress and don't seek food in response. It all…

Thank you for your advice - and indeed everyone else who has been kind enough to comment. I have noticed I have a tendency to adhere to quiet an ambitious diet/exercise routine, last a few months then drop off. This time, my commitment was to take time to reflect on what was working/not working, as you suggest, and…

Thank you - you're exactly right. I find getting the kids out of the door in time for school, remembering everything, when I've already been up since 05:30 to fit in the gym before they wake up pretty stressful. My membership expires next month, and I have been considering whether to let it lapse, and whether the extra…

Hi all Can I join? I'm 43, 5'8, single mum, work full time. Getting the time to exercise is my biggest challenge. I'm trying and failing to stick to 1200 calories a day. I have a desk job which I hate, and stress eat. xx

I am a runner and have lost track of the times people (non-runners and people who might be carrying a bit of extra weight) have told me they're too embarrassed to run outside, or intimidated to join a running club. I can categorically tell you that any runner/fit person is almost guaranteed to be inwardly willing on any…

How old are your kids? As that will make a difference to what you can do. Since mine were 9 & 11 I go to the gym whilst they're asleep/getting themselves breakfast then get back in time to supervise getting ready for school, then I go to work. I work full time. I hate early mornings but would rather the pain of going to…

Hi Meeker - I'll add you :-) I'm a full time working single mum of 2. Was relying a little too much on gin to get me through much of last year so am attempting a dry 2019. I do already exercise quite a bit and not excessively overweight but am definitely not where I want to be!

Well, I'm not organised to cut and paste my results for the last few days, but yesterday I was at 140.0 and today I think I'm 138.9. I think it's (hopefully) water weight from my marathon attempt on Monday (I dropped out at mile 18, but ran up to that point) then ate a LOT of pizza and ice cream. Now have to think about…

Age 42, 5”8. GW 135.0 Just getting back into logging after a month off. After beating myself up for poor diet choices for weeks, getting back into the routine hasn’t been as bad as I thought. I’m hoping it’s just the case of breaking the first few days. Will have to drink lots over next few days as Monday’s run is…
