  • Wow, lots of good advice and observations here. Lots of interesting links, as well. What a helpful community! But in the end, I think I just need to start experimenting on my body. No more protein powders/bars. No more forcing myself to eat 1g protein/lean muscle mass, just because that's conventional wisdom. I'm just…
  • Amen! I admire your approach brother.

  • Now that I'm over 50, stiffness and inflexibility is definitely my enemy number one. I took a friend's advice and tried yoga last week, which I've never done before because I never really viewed it as "real" exercise. Holy smokes, was I wrong! I have tremendous respect for all the strong ladies in that class…

  • NC - Thanks for posting this link. I love the watch enough to give this a shot. Super helpful, thanks bud.
  • I've got a Garmin Fenix 3. Love the watch, but my "lap" button popped off after owning it for about 18 months. Because it was out of warranty, they refused to replace, or even send me a new button. I even offered to pay. The only thing they offered me was 20% off a new Fenix 5 ($899). You can really tell the quality of a…
  • Holy smokes! You are my new role model!
  • There's this thing called Google... The nice thing, though, is you can choose to believe the hokey studies or not, and just go with what works for you personally.
  • That sounds like a lot of work. Personally, I'm too lazy to actually measure out my food for any sustainable amount of time. I'm pretty comfortable with MFP estimates on nutrition amounts, and if it's off by a couple hundred calories, I think it will average out in my favor over the long haul. I think the conventional…
  • I've always felt that the purpose of lifting was to improve my sports performance and keep generally fit. I play the sport first, whether basketball, cycling, paddling, or mountain biking. If there's an opening and my body feels up to it, then I lift. So what's worked for me is sort of the opposite of what you're doing.…
  • SPDs on my Ultimate, Flats on my Stumpjumper. My shins pretty much look like I've been mauled by panthers, but I'm hoping I'll learn how to stick a landing before I'm 50.
  • I'm shooting for 2017 miles in 2017. Easier for me to remember.
  • Yeah, you look like a hard core mountaineer, so I can see why you'd want better map capability. I'm jealous! I wish we had equivalent geography here on the East Coast.
  • Love my F3 Sapphire. Best watch I've ever owned and Garmin has definitely roped me in as a customer of their stuff. I just don't see a compelling need to go with the F5, though. The F5 and F5S takes away screen real estate, which my 'old guy' eyes desperately require during a run or bike race. The F5X is definitely cool,…
  • Thanks, Brian. My orthopedist did not mention this possibility. I'm going to do a little research.
  • Fish burps? Gives me the gags just thinking about it, so thanks for the info. Have you noticed any palpable improvements from taking them? Stronger, smarter, less achy after workouts?
  • This is an excellent website. Thank you! (although I'll probably waste the rest of the afternoon on it, but maybe I'll learn something about combating my PMS.)
  • Gotcha, thanks again for the advice. I'm going to use it.
  • That sounds much more palatable. Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Although I'm not sure what you mean by 'deficit'?
  • I want to mountain bike with my future grandkids.
  • I started off with the nutribullet, but I didn't like holding it down for a minute, so ended up returning it for the ninja. With the ninja, you can push the 'AutoIQ' button, walk out of the room (because a 1000 watt motor is LOUD!), come back a minute later, and you have a perfectly healthy meal waiting for you.
