Good question! I remember my mom's boyfriend calling me Miss Piggy at dinners, and I wasn't even fat then. It doesn't help build a healthy food relationship!

I use the Polar A360, but since all HRMs are for steady state cardio, if you do anything other than that, reduce your expectations of accuracy.

Greek yogurt, boiled eggs, thin crackers with peanut butter, Fiber 1 bars, any veggies or fruit, precooked meats, a wrap with anything, protein shakes or smoothies... many possibilities!

@middlehaitch thank you! @arditarose I'm 5'3", 47 years old. I'm not new to lifting. About 8-9 years ago I lost 96 lbs also doing lifting. Sadly ended up gaining it all back for various reasons. I've tried using trainers in the past with bad results so this time it's all me. If I'm going to try something new I just read up…

I've lost 83 lbs doing mostly lifting. I've recently started doing cardio only because I've torn the tendon in my right arm (tennis elbow) so not able to lift anything right now. Mainly doing SL 5x5 or variants thereof. Here's my before and afters (during really, as I'm still working on weight loss). First pic is around…

Great progress!!

Mostly after I got pregnant the first time. I was always a bit on the bigger side, got teased a lot in school mostly because at that time no one was overweight in school. But looking back I was not huge or anything. When I got pregnant with my first, I thought I should start eating healthier, so I actually started to lose…

Bring my own. Salads or tuna melts usually. Plus snacks.

Well done!

I also see a major difference! Keep up the great work!

Sometimes it just helps to stop and think before you eat to ask why you're eating. If it's because you're upset or sad then have a self talk. The only problem food helps with is hunger. Any other issues must be solved some other way. The wonderful people on MFP helped me realize that and it's helped me a lot as well. If…

I suggest some blood tests. Advise your doctor of the info in your OP. Good luck!

I've been on Synthroid for about a decade. While I can still gain weight rather easily, I have no trouble losing weight. I've lost 83 lbs in 11 months, just using MFP, being consistent in my appropriate calorie deficit, using a food scale to weigh all solid foods, and doing a moderate amount of exercise (I have arthritis…

Wow, great job!!

I suggest a week or two at maintenance. I believe it's not too great to be low calorie for extended periods. Give your body a bit of a boost for a week or two, then get back at it. Just don't go nuts and eat well OVER maintenance. I think this is also good practice for maintenance anyway.

My hubby always weighs at random times and ends up with his weight fluctuating drastically. Me, I weight once only, as soon as I wake and have gone to the bathroom. And ONLY then. I'm well aware that I'll weight at least a few pounds more at any time during the day due to water, food, etc. And YES, you can definitely…

I saw a registered psychologist before committing to this journey. It helped me A LOT because I was always very hard on myself and had disordered, all or nothing thinking. The psychologist helped me change that, and that in itself is, I believe, why I've been successful on this journey so far (83 lbs down in 11 months).…

So nice to hear another woman has taken the plunge into lifting. You won't regret it! Enjoy!

Congratulations!! You put in the work and it's paid off big time! Kudos!!

I love a good ribeye, but filet is better. Costco is CHEAP for filets. We can get a pack of 4 steaks for $30. My DH doesn't like ribeye, so we will go for filet but just don't have it often as it's still a "specialty" item. I like mine with Keg steak spice rub, with a bit of BBQ sauce at the end of grilling, and ALWAYS let…

First, you can't "kickstart" your metabolism. It is what it is, and it's likely quite normal. However, you may want to have a test on your blood sugars and thyroid, just to rule out any physiological reasons for weight gain. However, since you are saying you have no idea how to eat or portion, I suspect they're probably…

Great job on turning such a sad event into a chance to work on yourself. As you can see, life will always throw curve balls at you. You now know that food isn't the answer to those curve balls. That right there is worth it. Well done on your success so far. I know you'll reach your ultimate goal.

Looking fabulous!! Keep up the great work!

I believe recent studies have shown that the health effects of red wine have been overstated. However, as a lover of red wine regardless, I certainly doubt it's bad for you in any way to have a glass a day. Just make sure you have calories for it. Personally I prefer usually to eat my calories (I'm on under 1300 a day) so…

Stopping mindless eating is something you will need to work on. Personally, I think of my calories as a budget. During the day, as I'm faced with choices, I must decide if "X" is worth "spending" my calories on. If it is, then maybe I have to skip my afternoon snack to have it. Usually it's not though so I just say no and…
