Unless it's the size of a full pancake (not those silver dollar ones, a real pancake) a cookie is not two servings. Manufacturers can get bent.

Which has been my point all along. We can do better for each other. And ourselves. Our society, not just many of our people, is very sick. End rant, my last post in this thread (at least for tonight!) I promise. o:)

Yes, I think you're right. And I pity his father, because what is the alternative? A week or two on the streets for his son, and then he's dead? That's a bit of a pickle to be in. And even if his son bucks up, loses the weight, and gets a 'life' (i.e. some crap minimum wage job) and his dad can stop worrying day to day…

Oh I don't know, I suppose you can huddle on a sidewalk and freeze and say what you want. If you don't say it loud enough to draw police attention, that is. Although food stamps and food banks likely won't keep him at the weight he's at now. He'd still be fat (lots of fat, undernourished homeless people out there) but he…

The most real weight you're going to lose in 3 days, even if you're completely fasting, is 2 pounds. Everything else is water. And most people won't lose even that much, not unless they're exercising like mad. For me a three day fast is a pound of fat, maybe a pound and a half, gone. Sure not 10. Think about it: You use…

You're young, you have that on your side. If you want to enjoy life and not just have a 'beach body' find something active you love to do. This might take awhile, but it will make you far more well-rounded than those who do workout 'chores' just to have a certain look. And while you're doing what you love, ignore that…

Watching now. Thank you!

*Takes a deep breath* Health is not an end. Health is a beginning. Health is all the things you can do when at last you are healthy.

Watching some of his videos now. I believe I see what he is and what he wants out of life. And it's breaking my heart. Let's all face it. This world has very limited room for a very limited number of creative people. There just aren't that many slots to fill. And if you ain't got it (or you ain't got enough of it), forget…

Exactly the type of doormat we should all stop being. But yeah, you're right in your other post just the same. Instant gratification can take precedence over a long, healthy life. Nevertheless, I'm having a hard time imagining happiness in his situation. Momentary relief from reality through scarfing down food that makes…

I've heard good things about that book, too. I need to put it on my 'check the used bookstore for it every time I go in there' list. I still don't know what changed me. I think I could just say it was blind, silly luck. Because it sure wasn't a logical, rational, long look at my situation. It was more impulse. Well, my…

Short term, long term it ends in early death. I guess I should have defined 'enhance your life'. Some of the addicts and bed ridden have a lifespan of months or at most a handful of years. As far as doing what we want? Well, there are two sides to that. Selfish dbag and doormat. Neither is good. Neither is good at all.
-
Oh good, I'm glad you're going to go ahead and get checked just in case. Always best to be sure.

Oh wow, a really cynical answer just popped into my head: It's douche baggery when your douchey actions at least have a chance to gain something out of it that will enhance your life. It's mental illness when your douche baggery directly and inevitably hurts you as well as everyone around you.

That's so bleak. I've watched every weight loss surgery program I could find. I'm trying to imagine people who are physically worse off than some of the people I've seen on these programs, especially Patrick Deuel. He was inpatient and his family was frisked and his con jobs on staff were stopped to keep him on the…

If it's really doable, I'll be glad to add bison, sheep, goats, and whatever else to my diet. I am a little worried over game meat like deer since concentrating them in artificial feeding areas has spread CJD and my memory is already spotty, plus my poor mind is all I have left in this world, I'd like to keep it prion…

Yeah, but right to refuse treatment denied (even if someone agrees to it beforehand) coupled with a death could get it into court. Even though our justice system usually follows the money, companies still try to avoid lawsuits. And also, what is the guy's ability to pay? If he was rich enough, I'm sure a private…

Same here, but I won't eat soy more than once a week and if I'm going to give up meat, I want to go whole hog (haha I so not funny) and go vegan. I don't think I can live on mostly hemp hearts and chia seeds. But I'm open to ideas.
-
Agreed. Will I and have I eaten out of boredom or stress? Sure. But there are some foods that make me hungry. And so far there are some foods I like that are healthy that I'm just not going to overeat on no matter how stressed or bored I am. Funny how those foods tend to all be in the meat and produce aisle.

Sorry if I was offensive, sometimes I should keep my sense of humor to myself. The things I say about my own anxiety and phobias are viciously amusing. To me, that is. Maybe not to others. But the only crazy people I have contempt for are the ones I referenced in this thread at 6:29 pm. Everyone else, friend, fowl, or…

If pressure is put to raise meat prices only the rich will have meat. They compared it to diamonds in one of those quotes, after all. Who wears diamonds? But if pressure is put on society to fund technology for alternatives with the understanding that we all have to eat out of the same vat (referring to vat grown meat…

I seem to recall an old joke about rich people never being crazy. Just eccentric. I'll just say one thing about that and leave it, since it borders on the political: That's a loathsome standard for society to have over who gets locked up and 'helped' (note those quotation marks!) and who doesn't. It's one good reason not…

I definitely have social anxiety. I'm terribly wound up around strangers and even family gatherings exhaust me. I'm a born introvert. Being thinner and healthier helps, partly because I have more confidence but partly I think because I have more energy to deal with the situation. But I am still not nor ever will be nor…

Wow, what a read! Suddenly my issues don't sound so terrible. Then again, I'm a political misfit in my particular society, and talk about a slippery slope. For now it seems you have to be pretty clucking coo coo to be committed. But what about tomorrow? These things worry me. People dying over food choices worry me. I…

Did you eat more eggs than usual when you fasted? Again, not a doctor, this is specific to me, but I can eat eggs no problem. As long as I don't eat more than two or three a day and as long as that isn't my main source of calories for more than a day. I do flush after a carby feeding frenzy, but that's always the night of…

I'm the same way, but I think this is great for non-volume eaters. Doesn't work for me, because bugger the cookie, I want the whole bag or I don't want any at all. But for everyone else, don't torture yourselves with being more restrictive than your personal mental and physical traits demand. Eat your cookie!

True! Also, exercise can beget exercise. It's harder for me to stay in my chair since I started exercising regularly. Which can sometimes be annoying but doubtless gets me out of it and moving more often.
-
What did you eat the day before you started the fat fast and what did you eat on your fat fast and did you add any new supplements (niacin for one can cause flushing). Not a doctor or even pretending to play one on MFP, but the words fat fast seem to have triggered some vague memory for me that too many eggs flushes my…

I agree your slippery slope isn't all that slippery. It's plausible. I agree he needs far more than help with his eating (most likely). I don't want to derail further, so I'll just say the mental health field isn't where I personally think it needs to be to treat a lot of things it does treat against a patient's will, so I…
