Congratulations! Great story-very encouraging.

I do. I like having full access to all of the information. I think the price is reasonable. I think a membership fee is a good way to fund the website and in my mind sure beats creating keto frankenfoods to support the enterprise. I also appreciate that you can access a lot of information for free.

I would see an endocrinologist. I think an ultrasound would be in order. The fact the right side seems enlarged would indicate it in my opinion.

Its better for me on low carb but definitely not gone.

Dr Amy Myers has written some books on diet and thyroid you might find helpful. I have autoimmune thyroid issues and have to avoid gluten and dairy.

I do around 150 grams. If I do less, my mood tanks. I avoid grains, sugar and rice and aim to get the carbs from vegetables, dairy, nuts and fruit. I am losing weight but slowly. I see changes on the tape measure much sooner then I do on the scale. I recommend you take measurements monthly. I think for those of us who do…

Wow! That sure did work!

Thanks for the input. I'm going to give it a try for pain and hair loss.

I get my carbs in the form of vegetables, fruit, dairy and nuts. I don't eat grains. I try to keep it to 100 grams. This seems to give me the benefits of carbs without backlash. It did take time and experimentation to find my sweet spot. I also space out my carbs and pair them with a protein or fat. I need some carbs but…

I have an extensive family history of depression and chemical dependency and a longstanding personal history of depression. After many attempts to manage the depression without meds I have come to accept that I need an antidepressant. I started keto on Zoloft with a stable mood and within a short time everything was gray.…

cstehanson lol "add statins to our water supply" good one

I wouldn't call myself an experienced tester but I went with the Relion. Chris Kresser recommended it.

I avoid rice, grains, beans and corn. I get my carbs in fruits, vegetables and nuts-always paired with a fat or protein. I do not moderate my fat intake. The only fats I avoid are vegetable oils (other then olive oil.)

I shoot for 100 carbs or under. I started out with keto but my mood hit the toilet. I need higher carbs to keep my neurotransmitters and my thyroid happy. I am losing weight and inches slowly. I am pre diabetic and started monitoring my blood sugars at home and they stay in the normal range with this level. Brain is happy,…

cstehanson can you give the gist of what the article said about potassium?

KnitOrMiss what supplements cause more inflammation?

When I quit smoking a key thing for me was to deal with the feelings that made me want a cigarette. I think the same applies to comfort foods. Cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, food- all handy ways to avoid feelings.

I got the Relion prime at Walmart. Chis Kresser's article recommended it and I sure liked the price. I forgot to get the control solution to calibrate the meter (slaps forehead!) so back to the store today.

Very helpful! Thank you!

I think that the impact of cheat days depends on why you are doing keto. If you're on it for health reasons- blood sugar control, decreasing inflammation, chronic pain etc a cheat is going to damage your body and your health. The older I get, the more I value my health and the less I want to compromise it for a short term…

Welcome! Best wishes in your journey!

I read the Chris Kresser links. He says sustained blood sugars of 140! destroy pancreatic cells! That is scary. Got a meter today, going to read the instruction book tonight and start tomorrow.

I found I can't do keto without experiencing depression. I have gone low carb and my mood is normal. I increase carbs with fruit, nuts and starchy veg and am still losing weight.
-
I definitely correlate foods with worse pain. I am keeping a food diary tracking foods and symptoms. I have had to eliminate all dairy (sob!). It looks like almonds set me off and possibly tomatoes.

Good advice needier. Thank you!

Thanks cstehanson. Excellent resources. I have not been diagnosed with type 2 or IR, but suspect I am there or headed there which is why I went LC. I am labeled as "impaired fasting glucose". I'd like to get a more complete picture of what is going on and will get a glucometer.

I have been using that site for several years. Very helpful! What a great present!

Wow! Amazing change.

A piece of unsolicited advice- hope you don't mind. I would shoot for 8 hours of sleep every night.
