  • Exercise may play a small part of weight loss but I think it plays an important part of overall health. If she's trying to lose weight to improve health, then surely it will help, but exercise will too and should be a part of her plan. Or at least a doctor recommending a diet should at least suggest it...which was my point.
  • Yes, I did read it wrong. I thought she could eat those things (corn, beans, peas). I understand what you're saying. I don't know the particulars, but the OP went to the doctor for something. Perhaps obesity, or some other health problem where obesity is contributing factor. Her weight was a concern enough that the doctor…
  • My bad...I read it as including, not excluding. Yeah, I think beans are fine. I understand the reasoning behind not eating corn and peas but I don't much care for that recommendation either, unless you just don't love those veggies.
  • Part of it is psychological. Your mind thinks you need that much food at dinner because that's what you're used to eating to feel full. Recondition your thinking and you'll realize you don't need that much. It's not easy...good luck.
  • Why are you projecting false information? Nothing in her post said she couldn't eat lentils. In fact, she said she could eat beans (lumping them with vegetables). I don't necessarily think you need to cut out fruit, but if you're trying to lose weight you can safely eliminate it from your diet and introduce it slowly later…
  • There has to be a reasonable amount of common sense with any new way of eating. The doctor basically suggested she cut out sweets and starchy foods. If she does this and eats reasonably the things on the list that are "okay," she'll feel great and lose weight. If it doesn't work in helping her lose weight (not every way of…
  • I think this sounds great! Ignore the naysayers. If you stick to this, you'll lose weight and feel great. Good luck!!
  • You need to address the stress issues first imo. If you eat when you're stressed, that's the bigger issue than having a sedentary job. Maybe seek counseling or someone you trust to talk to. Figure out how to get rid of the stress...
  • I just can't keep seeing this thread title without a "that's what she said." I've tried. I can't.
  • Cut out some carbs and you'll eat fewer calories and feel better. But 6 pounds in four weeks is a nice, healthy rate of loss. Patience is a challenge for sure...
  • These diets work for some people. Ultimately, people want to sell books and make money. They also want to help people. But mostly make money.
  • Some turkey or ham roll ups (with a slice of cheese or cream cheese).
  • It's not nothing else. You get to eat some bananas and a few of the days you get a piece of meat. I can't remember exactly, but it's just mostly cabbage soup.
  • I did this diet about 15 years ago. It sucked so bad. I think I made it to day five and the thought of eating another bowl of cabbage soup made me want to puke. I get nauseated just thinking about it. I won't lie and say I didn't lose on it, but I'm sure I gained it back quickly once the week was over. Ugh. Don't do this...
  • Isn't the whole point to be conscious of your eating behavior? I can't see how this is a bad thing...
  • I want to run 1.5 miles in under 15 minutes for the Air Force fitness test I'm working towards and sometimes it feels like an impossible goal. So good job.
  • Shutterbug
  • My wife is in her 40s and if someone told her she looked 12 she'd give them a hug, not complain about it in a forum...
  • 1500 to 1650 calories a day is not the difference between one pound or two pounds a week.
  • How much do you think she's off by? 300 calories? 500 calories? Even if she is eating twice what she thinks (1600), that's a nice deficit for a 254 pound woman who exercises every day. She should be losing...
  • It doesn't record regular steps you take during the day, as has been explained. If you go for a long walk and that's your exercise and you want to record it and have it count as an activity and have it sync to MFP, you have to start and stop and save it. Let me know if you need help knowing how to do this...
  • Food brings you to orgasm?! What in the hell are you eating?? I gots to know...
  • I would like my body to burn fat for the energy it needs and it feels like eating back exercise calories defeats that goal. It seems to be working...I have plenty of energy (eating on a deficit) and don't feel hungry all the time and get 4-5 workouts in a week.
  • It would kick in...that's my point. It's not a sustainable way of eating for long term weight loss and maintenance. If the OP never gets sick of them and can eat them forever, then awesome, but my opinion is she would get sick of them or her boyfriend would. One of them would crack within a month...
  • Yes it weighs more, so why would weighing it cooked be 100 less calories? You'd log it as weighing more, which would calculate it as more calories, not less...
  • Does the actual makeup of foods like rice and oats change when you boil it in water? What accounts for the additional 100 calories? Does dry rice weigh less than rice that's been cooked?
  • She has said she still needs to lose 100 pounds...
  • No science...just a cool trick. Magic!
  • I find it slightly amusing that you have said several times you're backing out of this thread, but you keep coming back! It has a special allure I suppose...
  • I thought that's exactly how it worked...calories in, calories out. If you eat normal (maintenance) and burn 1000 calories running, wouldn't you be at deficit of 1000 calories? Maybe I'm not understanding what you're trying to say here...
