  • I'm 40. Can hold 180 bpm for about an hour. Can't get much higher than that regardless. Apparently max is 195, but I'll only hit it a couple times a year - recently did a 2 min effort averaging 160% of ftp, it stuck right tight to 180, 181. Threshold set by training peaks using coggin (5).
  • According to my power meter/Garmin, my 50 min spin this AM burned 443 cal. My normalized power was 159 watts, my average power was 154 watts and my average hr was 130 bpm. It was a fairly steady effort (no intervals). That said, stationary bike power accuracy is apparently quite poor from what I've read. I would take that…
  • I LOVE my treadmill. Its a BH S5TI or something similar. I use it with a foot pod and Zwift... it's fun as hell and I hate running.
  • Now: Lose ~1lb/week through May. (18# total, 20 weeks, ~155 target) Jan: Hit 30+ hours of cycling. Feb: Hit 35+ hours of cycling. Black belt in TKD. March: Hit 45+ hours of cycling. April: Get in some nice long weekend rides. Hit 50+ hours of cycling per month now through August. May: Be ~155# 12hrs @ Mesa Verde - keep my…
  • Today's ride in calories, MFP vs a powertap (thingy that measures watts at the rear hub). 324 minutes total, 90.9 miles, 17.7mph average MFP calories - 4840 Powertap calories - 2697 I generally eat all the calories back that my power tap says I burn... because it's an actual measurement of work performed. If I went by MFP,…
  • Sometimes I simply don't know what I should even eat... or how much. Rode the bike for 5.5 hrs today... had a pound of pasta salad, 2 lb pork tenderloin, a hefty sweet potato... still need to eat 1200-1500 calories... but of what, I have no idea. I have a case of Guinness in the garage, kind've want to drink the calories.…
  • There are many, but essentially three types of road style bike. One is racing (shorter head tube) another is comfort/endurance (tall, sometimes very tall head tubes). The third, a touring bike could be good too, but (in my mind at least) they are built slightly heavier for panniers, and make some geometry sacrifices for…
  • My point is the relevance of the 220... the figure literally means nothing and there is no real reason to even have the number there. Is there a good reason or are you just literally pointing out anything but the topic of thread?
  • ugh. Joshua McAllister quotes: "Look I'm not sure what has rattled your cage, but it seems something has." - baseless comment "Of course its working for you now, you are under eating so of course you will be loosing weight." -comment w/o any supporting/factual info. " by burning 1000 of daily intake is putting yourself at…
  • OK, that makes sense. Trying to wrap my melon around why that number is even relevant. I don't see how it adds any insight or value.
  • Between MFP, Strava, Garmin and my power meter, figures for ONE EXERCISE varied by over 1K calories and you think it's possible to run a deficit for an entire week of 1750 cal? Even if I knew exactly the number of calories I was consuming per day... IMPOSSIBRU.
  • That's not true. You do know my stats because I shared them. Also, as you put it, "of course it's working for you. You are under eating so of course you'll be losing weight." Huh? *rolls eyes* How do you know I'm under eating. You saw one screenshot after one meal. You've jumped to so many conclusions you tripped and fell…
  • .5 lbs per week would mean managing to a deficit of 1750 calories or 250 cal per day based on a bunch of estimates of physical activity, calories burned, consumed, etc. Even if I had the rigor required to do that, I wouldn't have the data. Great suggestion. IMPOSSIBLE to execute.
  • You seem fixated on a number that has no context. Never actually had a day where I ate 1300 cal. Said differently... I eat 1500 cal per day but only consume 80% of my exercise calories. How is that different if I end up getting to the same number? ..
  • The way I am managing it is working for me right now. In the past I would often eat for workouts that never occurred. It was... problematic. At this point I am averaging 1lb per week in weight loss. Adding back 500 cal will erase any progress. I still have 20 lbs to go in order to reach my target weight. I work at home and…
  • Thanks for the info... btw, I eat 100% of my calories back (always) so I'll do close to 2300-2500 cal today. I average a hair over 2k per day. Mfp set my goal. 5'6", sedentary (work from home, less than 2k steps per day...). I've been doing 1.3k per day + 100% of burned calories since December (when I was over 200 lbs) w/…
  • I lost 35 lbs on diet alone (nearly). When I began working out, I found that I had a much lower calorie deficit if I wanted an effective workout (keep effort/power levels up). If I did work out at a deficit, I had a ravaging hunger that I wouldn't have been able to deal with for long OR I couldn't reproduce efforts I knew…
  • I bought one because it was important for me to quantify how little I actually do. I work from home and aside from taking the kid to school, I'm sleeping or sitting for 20+ of 24 hours. It was interesting to learn that many days I take less than 2K steps. As far as 'fitness tracking'... I've got different tools I prefer…
  • It depends. I was eating 100% of my calories burned back but I was on a very low calorie diet due to the fact that I work from home and am sedentary 22 of 24 hours of the day. Over time, I increased my baseline calories by 150 per day and reduced the % that I ate back to around 60%. In the beginning I had about 50lbs to…
  • John Winger: C'mon, it's Czechoslovakia. We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip right out again. We're not going to Moscow. It's Czechoslovakia. It's like going into Wisconsin. Russell Ziskey: Well I got the ʇᴉɥs kicked out of me in Wisconsin once. Forget it! I too... am from/a reluctant resident of Wisconsin.
  • Good Job. I did a nearly dry Jan - brought on by weight loss motivations. I wasn't super motivated to cut it out entirely as much as I was looking for a reduction. It was an easy way to cut out 1600 calories a week and accounts for nearly 2 pounds of my weight loss. Never looked at it that way until I started counting.
  • I'm not sure I understand. You mean to tell me that you don't eat before exercising on purpose? Sounds gimmicky... like vegetarians. Or NA beer. I like to workout on at least 250 calories in my stomach and will consume about 200 calories per hour of workout (while cycling). If I don't keep the calories coming in, I don't…
  • I don't remember specifics. I was riding 4-5 days a week, 40-60 a day and racing MTB every other weekend. My HRM indicated that I was burning through a ton of calories and I *think* I was eating 75% back plus my 2K calorie diet. Oatmeal, fruit and nuts for breakfast, probably a +/-1K calorie lunch and then another 1K+…
  • I have no advice to offer... but your effort sounds similar to what I've gone through in the past. Below is from a cycling perspective... rocks swim better than I... running? not even sure what that is. At 5'6" my BMI said that I was overweight at 160. I desperately wanted to get down to 145-150 which was high on the…
  • The lowest weight in my range of "happy weight" is still "over weight" when I calculate on BMI so I take that recommendation with a grain of salt. Once I got down to the high 140's... which BMI says is the high end of my "Normal" weight... I felt fine but was lethargic/non-competitive on the bike. Went to the Dr. and asked…
  • Ugh. Vegetables. Yuck. Don't eat them... way less hassle. ...and if you feel like you must use them, they should be a garnish on bloody mary's. *only trying to be funny because there is nothing more that needs to be said that hasn't been said already.
  • Wake up at 6am, grab a big cup of coffee and hit the bike hard for 20-30 minutes on an empty stomach. 10 minute soft pedal, a quick shower and a shot of whiskey will start the day off right EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Can't drink all day unless you start in the morning.

  • I didn't start losing weight until I started using MFP. Last 2.5 weeks of Nov I walked over 80 miles while hunting and ended up gaining 10 pounds (and it wasn't a good 10 lbs). I was shocked. It was definitely not how I wanted to kick things off. I thought about getting serious when I got back home in December. A month of…
