I agree that carbs make a meal feel like a meal. I love them as much - maybe more - than the next person. I've just assumed that processed grains were developed as a way to fill people up when meat and fresh produce were scarce or too expensive. Carbs are kind of addictive for me. I can eat a great piece of fish or lamb…

Thank you all for your suggestions! I'm going to try them all! I already have a mountain and road bike, so I can dust those off, and I live in a great place for hiking. Rock climbing is something I really loved the couple of times I've tried it - I totally forgot about that - I gave up when I couldn't find anyone to go…

I was referring to processed grains because when people talk about grains in the west - we are rarely talking about whole/unprocessed grains. "Whole wheat" products are usually processed to the hilt. But even things like rice or oats - they aren't nutrient dense foods - they're filler to my mind. Yes, there's fiber but you…

Is there anything negative about ketosis? Like is it hard on the organs or anything?

I don't get why folks go on the attack. This is working for this guy so more power to him and anyway the kinds and amounts of sugar and (processed) grains we eat in the western world are typically devoid of nutritional value. I see not a thing wrong with this diet. Could I do it? Not 100% - but I do endeavor to limit sugar…

It is remarkable how much younger people look with after!! You all are so inspiring!!

This is a great program - first thing that's worked for me in years. Log throughout the day so you can plan for meals out or birthday cake etc. and good luck!

I don't weigh my food but I am very careful to accurately record the portion size, so you can do this without a scale. I just refuse to get a scale. I am losing, so it's working. Try to log throughout the day so you don't accidentally forget something - on days where I put off logging until the end of the day I often find…

Frozen banana ice cream - cut up bananas and freeze, then blend/food process alone or with a few chocolate chips and/or peanut butter. You can also add a little liquid like almond milk, real milk/cream to speed up the process. It takes few minutes but the consistency is just like ice cream and flavor is amazing.

True, and excepting the cheetos, they're also sugar-y caramel popcorn and chocolates - for me a little sugar and I just can't stop - mix some fat in there and it's on and cracking!
-
Of course. Not pushing - just saying what has worked for me ;)

The water thing never really worked for me in the sense of filling me up. It works if you're actually dehydrated because we can confuse that with hunger really easily so it's important to get enough water, but can't speak to the filling you up. I wouldn't bother trying to trick your stomach. Eats lots and lots and did I…

We live in a culture that tells us women should be waifs - I'm not tall but I have broad shoulders, a big chest and hips. I catch myself in the mirror sometimes and I feel like a linebacker ;) I'm always drawn to these fashions that don't work on me - I could go on. I'm also older and I went through a phase of thinking the…

You can beat binge eating - I call it black out eating. I used to just dig into everything and not really "come to" and realize what I'd done until it was too late. Food was my friend, my comfort, my go to for stress - it was basically the only time I was happy, but it was a crappy friend because it just made me feel so…

A little testosterone supplementation can do wonders - though I know that's not for everyone. There's also an herb I've used called Maca and it definitely had an effect on my drive.

Your kids are really young and sometimes it's just hard going from mom-mode to sexy-mode. Add in fatigue, busy schedule, not feeling your best weight-wise and it's really easy to lose your sex drive. But I agree with folks here - as you work out and lose weight and get more of those moments where you catch yourself in the…

Raw almonds really help my cravings too - it's the crunch I think. I usually eat just 6-12. Sometimes a piece of fruit will kill a sugar craving - even though the fruit seems totally unappealing to your head, your gut thinks it got its sugar fix and will stop asking (sometimes). I can't have my favorite chocolates - toffee…

I can't bear to see I've gone over my calories - so I log indulgences over a few days - it all balances out by the end of the week but I feel a little dishonest not owning up to how I ate it all in one day ;)

I've never had side-effects from those kinds of meds but I know there are some anti-depressants associated with increased appetite. A friend of mine takes one of those and she did put on some weight but she was over-eating because it gave her a bigger appetite. She has since started MFP and working out and is losing and…

You look amazing!! You definitely do not even look 215 so either you're tall or have a great percentage of muscle mass - or both! I've been struggling to stick with my last few pounds but now, I'm feeling motivated!

Immediate in terms of energy and sex drive. I had no sex drive (sorry TMI) prior and very low energy and it kicks right in with the testosterone. They say it helps with retaining muscle mass as well. I can't really say - I've lifted weights my whole life and even though now I go on and off I tend to always retain some -…

I don't eat "clean" as they say - at least I don't think so. Try to find ways to make it feel indulgent - like have an omelet with cheese and a slice of bacon but skip the toast and potatoes or have half a sundae and save the rest for the next day. If all I ate was broiled chicken and steamed broccoli I could never last.…

The advice people gave me when I had the same issue was: protein. I'd heard it before but didn't really take it to heart. Eat protein first and then see where your hunger is. Often when I'm ravenous I realize I haven't gotten even close to enough protein in a few days. I began snacking on rolled up cold cuts with a slice…

Tucking in blouses again after wearing them out - tunic style - for years, swimming in my size 8 dress pants - so many getting dressed milestones.

Does it balance itself out? When I had periods (back in the day ;) I remember the week before was insane hunger and cravings but the week of my period, I had virtually no appetite for the first few days at least.
-
The testosterone one has immediate effects - within an hour or two you know you've taken it (and it's supposed to help with retaining muscle mass though I have no way of knowing if that's happening). I use an under the tongue gummy-sort of thing. It's by prescription.

It's something called "bi-est" and progesterone. I also take a small amount of testosterone. My body, several years after menopause, basically was producing zero hormones, which I know is "normal" but I decided to go for it. The most noticeable effects are no hot flashes, better sleep and better sex drive/more comfortable…
-
I started taking bio identical hormones and they really help my sleep and have totally eliminated hot flashes. When I skip a dose, I notice it.

Yes, my sizes aren't making a ton of sense right now - most of my dresses and shirts are still fitting me just fine - of course they have stretch generally, and my chest hasn't reduced very much. Skirts and pants are definitely big - and sizing is a varied - weird because it took a while to see that change. But I went from…

Eat that fish you're holding ;) Is that a fish? I eat tuna, sardines, shrimp, trout, eggs, cottage cheese, cold cuts, lamb and other kinds of meat, nuts, avocado. I don't eat as many carbs as I used to and I actually don't eat as many salads - between the dressing and other add ons I like it's too caloric and low protein.…
