  • What time do you go to bed? (you call 8pm midnight so I assumed you go to bed early). I have dinner about 3-4 hours before bed (dinner is my biggest meal) and have another smaller meal straight before bed. I've always eaten like that. In general I eat more than 50% of my calories in the 4 hours before bed.
  • Do you live alone or with other people? Is it possible to not buy any tempting foods (treats etc) for a while and only buy things which you think are less likely to trigger you? What if you tell yourself that you can have that food that you have on your mind, but just not today? What I'm doing at the moment is eating at a…
  • That's an extremely important point. I've lived (wasn't much of a life at all on bedrest half of the time) for 15 years with undiagnosed POTS visiting hospital after hospital. I found out I had it by pure chance before seeing a cardiologist and getting diagnosis and treatment. Now I have my life back. But I lost many years…
  • Unless the OP wants the thread closed I see no reason for it to get closed. From what I can see the OP is still active here. It would be very interesting to see how the appointmant goes on the 10th after all this discussion.
  • This thread has been very interesting and insightful to read. Thanks to everyone who contributed. You've asked for people who made it work to reply. I thought I had until recently so will add my input. I've been around for several years. I try to eat at a small deficit because I have/want to lose about 10lbs more. This has…
  • I'm not sure how someone else's daily routine can help you stay at a deficit, but here goes. I don't have an hourly routine because I sleep at random times but here's an example: Wake up around 2pm. Have protein mousse for breakfast, go to the gym where I burn 300cals for an hour on the treadmill. Have lunch around 4 hours…
  • I had Carge HR and unfortunately it overestimated my calories by a lot - around 300 per day. So after several months I stopped using it.
  • I tend not to discuss my weight with anyone at all. This way I don't get to hear all their opinions. I'm 5'7 and my goal is to get back to 125 which I've been my whole adult life. I don't care who thinks what about it. So I don't talk about it.
  • I would recomnend the top post in this forum. It contains links to helpful and scientifically sound posts. The starvation mode you're talking about is featured there several times. Noone doesn't lose weight because they're eating too little. Noone. That includes the ill-informed people in your support group. Noone. So…
  • Ha! That's a great idea! I think I'll get him an orchid! Thanks! That's set then. (I can't ask because I'm not close with his wife)
  • That's a good suggestion. What concerns me is that I sent him a book for his birthday last year and also that his wife might feel ignored.
  • It is OK if you do it occasionally. No, you will not lose quicker if you are eating more. Why would you ever think such a thing?
  • If you know your weight gain is due to water why are you shocked? Why does it bother you at all? Aren't you after losing fat?
  • I don't like meat much so I eat protein mousses for breakfast. These are just protein shakes which I make very airy and thick so that when I turn the shaker bowl down it doesn't pour but just stands in the bowl. I use flavoured protein powder, cold bananas, cold soy milk and frozen mango. Yum!
  • If you are completely sure you are eating 1200 then my suggestion is that it is from the strength training. Did you start to train 3 weeks ago? You can either keep up at it and be patient or if you're completely unmotivated by this you can stop strength training for a week or so and see if your weight drops suddenly. Mine…
  • It does for me. Hugely. So I've given up while trying to lose despite the fact that it is better for my shape. I get ravenous so I'll get back to it when I get to maintanance.
  • Since our cautionary posts got wooed here's the maths. To lose 10kg in two months as you want you need to lose about 160grams per day. 160grams of fat is about 1230cal. So you need to make about 1230cal deficit every day. At your height your sedentiray maintanance according to MFP is about 1750 which includes up to 5k…
  • The database here is largely made from personal entries of other members. Like me and you. You have to carefully check each entry against trusted sources of information before you use it. For fruit and veg I use the entries marked as "usda". Others I just compare with the package that I have.
  • No, it is not achievable, sorry. You need about 8-10 months for that. I'm your height and it took me more than a year to get from 11 st 5 to 10 stone.
  • For me all three times during the last couple of years when I started a new strength training routine my weight got stuck for 6 weeks despite eating at my usual deficit. Very annoying. In all cases my weight dropped by a lot immediately after I stopped working out.
  • Yes. Chances are your macros will naturally fall in the expected limits. At least mine do.
  • ^This. I promise. Just keep doing it.
  • "Small" is a qualitative term and so the calories would vary. If you want your log to be more precise than this then you need to weigh it and log it in grams using the "usda" entries. Just search for "avocado usda" in the food database.
  • You could drink sunflower oil. Not very nutritious though.
  • I actually gained 6lbs of fat on my summer holiday this year. I hope in your case it's just water but there is the possibility that it isn't. I overate by about 1000cal a day. Which for a completely sedentiary me comes to 2500cals of food a day. Which is very easy to do unfortunately. I didn't feel stuffed or anything on…
  • No, you actually don't. You need a foodscale, deficit, patience and discipline.
  • No, in fact rapid heart beat during a drop in bp is normal. The heart is trying to compensate. What is not normal is sustaining this high pulse after say 15-20 mins.

  • What does it say on the packet? The labels at least in the UK they specify if the calories include the milk or not. Does it say "as prepared" or something of the like?
  • Did you by any chance notice the number of posts in this thread before replying? Some people....
  • Orthostatic hypotension is fairly common in people and while it is observed in patients with POTS, most people don't have POTS and it returns to normal fairly quickly thanks to the autonomic nervous system. With POTS it never does and that is what the essence of POTS is - an autonomy disfunction.
