Cooking turned my life around
My life has bern turned around by cooking reguralry. I'm puting the post in this forum as opposed to the nutrition one because I want to emphasise the benefits in terms of weight loss and not the benefits in terms of nutrition. Here's where I currently am. I lost with the help of MFP several years ago all the weight I…

What to bring on a diabetic person visit [solved]
I'm visiting my godfather tomorrow and I haven't seen him for 4 years. He was diagnosed with diabetes after cancer treatment. I can't go empty handed but everything I can think of has sugar in it and he isn't eating any as far as he's told me. I can't bring him cheese and crackers, it isn't gift appropriate. It doesn't…

These Myfitnesspal bloggers
Here's one reason why people come here on this forum to spread nonsense: Myfitnesspal blogs on your home page. These blog articles published online under the Myfitnesspal blog logo are almost always complete woo. Today's one is about how sugar has "negative health effects" and is "detrimental to your health". A commenter…

Help me estimate a burn
I climbed a hill today. For the uphill part I walked up 6000 steps which on a levelled terrain is 200cals for me. In this case it was climbing rocks and the elevation was roughly from from 300 to 1400 feet (i.e. 1100 feet). How many calories do you think I should add to these 200 for the climbing?

Body weight squats
I had two lower back injuries for the past 6 months and also have disc protrusions and have been taking meds for sciatica for the past 3 or so years. So I'm not allowed to lift. Can I accomplish anything with bw squats? I'm pear shaped and most of my fat is concentraded in my lower body. Despite being at the lower half of…

Looking for app recommendations
Can you please recommend an Android app which has a good 'exercises by muscle' database? I've downoaded a few but the groups are too general, like "back" for the whole back or "shoulders". I'm looking for an app where I can narrow down the muscles for example 'rear delt' as opposed to just general 'shoulders'. Thanks.

Help me estimate pizza calories
I haven't had takeaway pizza since I started logging 2 years ago. Yesterday I had one. It was a 10inch pizza margherita with extra ham. How many calories is your estimate? (The takeaway place is not online and in another town so can't ask them. ) My estimate was 1000cal. Please give me yours.

Elevated treadmill - calories
I've found out that walking at a levelled treadmill the calories I burn according to the machine (which knows my sex, age and weight) are very accurate and coincide with those I get from my pedometer app and with those I would get from MFP if I entered it manually. I tried walking on an inclined treadmill and the calories…

Can't use verticle leg raise stand. Please advise.
I can't lift myself by my arms to use the verticle leg raise on the stand. My upper arms/shoulders let go immediately. They are too weak to keep me up even for one leg raise. Please tell me which muscles I should strengthen exactly to be able to use the stand. Can you please suggest exercises to strengthen them? I feel…

Sell me (or otherwise) HIIT
I've been doing only steady state cardio through the years (if any at all). Mostly brisk walking and stationary biking. Can I ask for your experienced advice about switching to hiit or staying steady state, please? I'm very interested in heart benefits, not just calorie burns.

Weight loss slowed a lot after starting the mini pill
I started the mini pill (progesterone only) about 50 days ago. I've been losing weight since Feb 2016. I've been keeping a spreadsheet and taking lots of data and making all sorts of graphs and it has always worked perfectly - I've always lost exactly the accumulated deficit for, say, a given month. But since I started the…

Fat % measurement for a pear shaped female
I would like to get some idea of my fat% and start working on lowering it rather than lowering my weight. I don't know how to measure it accurately (with calipers) because I have very little fat around my waist, all of it is in my butt and legs (on the calfs too). The problems is that all instructions make you measure…

How long for water retention to go?
How long can water retention last after starting to exercise for the first time? The rest are details if anyone is interested, but it might not matter at all: I'm around 140lbs, 5'7. I eat at around 250 cal deficit on average and have had no problems for more than a year. I started Strong Curves properly 16 days ago. After…

Fitbit charge HR overestimates walking calories hugely
Hello, my stats are 36 female, 66kg, 170cm mostly fat, almost no muscle (have been a couch potato for health reasons for years). I've been on MFP since February this year and lost about 10kg so far (except for the last two months when I took a break as I was on a holiday). During my weight loss I've been taking a lot of…

Calories in stationary biking
My question is: is it possible to burn (according to MFP) 67 calories in 20 minutes of very light cycling? Here are the details: I'm 35, female, 147lbs, 5'7" I'm brand new to cycling and fitness altogether (ex couch potato+some health issues). But not new to calories counting. I rode the bike at 2 out of 8 difficulties…
