I also think there's a difference between entering into the spirit of an occasion like birthday or graduation or Christmas, and eating to excess alone or in secret. I think there's something less worrying about the occasional splurge when it's in a social context than eating the same volume in secret.

Exactly this, which is why I plan to keep weighing a few times a week now I'm maintaining a 70lb loss.

Yes, if your starting weight is high. I've lost 57lbs in 3.5 months but I started at just over 300lbs so I had more wiggle room.
-
Hey! My starting stats were very similar to yours, except I'm an inch taller and was 4lbs lighter at the beginning, and I just wanted to say that, like the poster who was advising you to do low carb, I have also lost around that much in slightly less time. EXCEPT I didn't do low carb, I did pure CICO. So I guess I just…

Easily 5lbs, which is gone by the day my period finishes.

This article came out the day after I'd looked at myself in a hotel mirror and thought 'I don't look like me anymore, I look like me in a fat suit' https://www.buzzfeed.com/ariellecalderon/my-weight-loss#.ljK3ndDOL and the combination of me not feeling like myself and reading that it could be done (even though a lot of…

You retain water at different times during your menstrual cycle, when you consume a lot of sodium and when you start intense new exercise. This is water weight. So for example if your weight goes up 5lbs just before your period, you didn't gain 5lbs of fat any more than you lost 6lbs of fat when you weigh in the week after…

Yes, I'm also losing fast- today is my 90th day of trying to lose weight and I'm down 48lbs so that means I've lost more than .5lbs every other day. It sounds like a scary amount but my starting weight was 100lbs higher than yours, I've been eating between 1,580 and 1,700 calories a day (started at 1,700 and it's dropped…

I only lost 5lbs a week for the first few weeks of weight loss AND I started at 100lbs heavier than you, so again, no.

Thanks so much! I knew it must be obvious...

I do get their point... some topics get posted literally every day with absolutely no variation or personal twist on the question that requires the answers to be different to the answers given to whoever posted the question the day before. Sorry, not some topics. One topic. This one.

difficult to notice progress even when losing

Exactly this!

32lbs down and I actually can't think of any.
-
I guess either you do or you don't? It's just a question of choosing to not let it derail you forever, or choosing to let it.

I also have this (with month-old Salter digital scales with new batteries :# ) and I just basically keep trying until I can get it to give me the same reading three times in a row, and I record that.

Thanks, I'm really glad this is the general consensus as 1600-1700 calories is allowing me to eat 'normally' while addressing what allowed my weight to increase in the first place. Will look into magnesium and potassium!

I'll keep an eye on them but nothing from the lower list is happening to me just yet. Fingers crossed it won't! I'm keeping very hydrated (around 2l a day on days when I'm not exercising and more when I am), only really worried about gallstones which I really do not want!

This is really helpful and useful, thank you for the reply!

Week 1 - 8lbs 2 - 2lbs 3- 6lbs 4 - 1lb 5 - [no weigh in, on vacation] 6 - 5lbs 7 - 6lbs So it's been a little all over the place but the big losses definitely haven't just been in the beginning! And thank you for your other advice - I'm eating a lot of protein at the moment (because it is delicious) but will be mindful of…

Very happy to do some weight lifting!

Amazing work

Yes this- I use my Fitbit exercise calories more as an interesting thing to know than something that directly affects my day to day eating. On days where Fitbit tells me I've accumulated a LOT of extra calories out through movement, I'll just use those days to have a small extra (tracked) something :)
-
This is what I had to do! All I did was go in, change my goal to something else, change it back to what it was, and now my daily calories have dropped by 80 a day. Thanks!
-
Thanks- my calories haven't changed even though I'm down 21lbs but my weight is up to date in the goal section of the app so I guess I just wait til it changes!
-
I got back from a week's vacation yesterday and the scale said a 6lb gain yesterday which has already dropped to a 1lb gain by today. It's so bizarre.

I think c) is the way to go. Thanks for the responses so far!
