  • Hey Mike! Canning your own food is a great idea. I've found eating only whole foods makes me feel better.
  • I'm eating 1500 a day as well. I have hypothyroidism so losing is tough and if I eat too low cal my thyroid goes out of whack.
  • Hello Mary! I looooove sweets-cutting them mostly out is my biggest challenge.
  • Black Magic Woman- Santana
  • Guess I don't know how to add friends either- sorry!
  • Nope- no homemade ice lollies- I buy the "Outshine Fruit Popsicles" which are 60 calories and super yummy- love the tangerine and raspberry- I'll add you as a friend smile:
  • Hello Chatty Crafty! I'm just logging calories on this site-eating a whole food diet (I do eat meat and seafood as well)- So sorry to hear about your hip arthritis- that's certainly no fun all. I can't wait to get out of this stupid walking boot so I can outside for some exercise. I definitely gained due to "stuck in the…
  • I'm not a good swimmer- plus have issues with shoulders that make it very difficult. That's why I liked walking and bike riding. Anyway, I've been eating 1400-1500 cal for 3 weeks today and have lost 4 pounds. I'm very surprised by this; I thought I'd be lucky to lose 1/2 pound a week. I'm eating a lot more fruits and…
  • Greetings all- Count this 62 year-old in! I also am Hashimotos thyroid. Does make it harder but not impossible. I've done well with MFP in the past but unfortunately I gained back and am back. My current goal is around 40 lbs. Currently I have to wear a walking boot for 4-6 weeks because of an injured tendon so I won't be…
  • Thanks-I'm hoping I heal quickly too. You are an inspiration!
  • I lost my 1st 100 lbs through diet alone so very much yes. Use the sedentary setting value for your loss rate and stick to that value. You might want to try maintenance for that time period, though, as your body is trying to heal that tendon and needs good nutrition to do so; eating at a deficit is stressful on the body,…
  • Yep, I found the extension-I downloaded it but it isn't working. Many have complained that it no longer works- oh well....
  • Are you using the website or on your phone? On the Android app you can see a macro pie chart in your food diary. I don't think I've ever found it available on the website, at least the free version. I'm on the website-I used to have it (on the website). Someone had sent me a link to add the extension but I lost it.
  • Thanks for responding @puffbrat but I don't see that on my food diary page- I'm thinking it may now be available to only premium members (which I'm not). I am not referring to the section that shows the daily macro breakdown- this was a pie chart that showed percentages of macros- a separate visual.
  • I have hypothyroidism and have been taking nature thyroid for many years. I have done much better with this naturally dissected thyroid med than I did with the synthetic hormone (synthroid). Anyway, yes you can lose weight if your thyroid hormones are stabilized. I also walk 3-4 miles 5 days a week which has helped…
  • I quit 35 days ago and have gained 3.5 pounds- I bumped up my walking routine from 3 to 4 miles and am walking faster. I have been eating maintenance calories and burning more, but I've still gained. I've read that your metabolism slows down when you quit- estimates said about a 200 cal. a day difference. Nicotine is a…
  • I quit a month ago and feel tons better! Join the quit smoking site "Quitnet," You will get tons of support there and lots of helpful info from fellow quitters. You may want to consider nicotine replacement if you can't do it cold turkey- that's a personal choice. I am an avid walker and this has helped me more than…
  • I quit 18 days ago (Jan 1st). First week my goal was just to maintain- then I went back on my plan and it's going fine. I don't go to a gym but do walk about 3 miles 4-5 days a week which helps with weight and the stress of quitting. I also bought a big bag of really yummy organic lollipops. Keeps my mouth busy, they taste…

  • I'm going to try to eat at maintenance until the 1st. I just want to enjoy the holidays without constantly worrying about food- plus, after almost 5 months of a deficit, it will be a nice break for body, mind, and soul! Hope you all have a wonderful holiday. :)
  • If you need some extra support, Quitnet is a great free online resource- it's like MFP for quitting smoking :)
  • Wow! some ambitious goals here! I've got about 20 pounds left to hit my goal (lost 21 lbs. so far) and weight loss has slowed down- probably about a pound every 10 days. So if I can hit at least 8 pounds I'll be happy. Good luck to all of you!
  • I've been doing a fall challenge (Oct. -end of Dec.), so needed to start another one for the new year. You can certainly start it now if you wish-just change the dates. Good luck!

  • I found a unicorn! He told me that if I eat his sparkles all my day's calories would be completely negated! However, I'm really not sure how one would procure sparkles from a unicorn- anyone know? I'm sure if it was easy everyone would do it and this site would not even exist.
  • I have done WW in the past, but I much prefer being here on MFP. There's much more freedom, it's free, and there is tons of support/info here. I did lose some on WW, but I have been much more successful logging in everyday here on MFP.
  • Graduating from a Master's program is amazing! I finished half my master's and gave up! So... you went out and celebrated- who in their right mind wouldn't! This is a BIG deal! Don't you dare get down on yourself-I totally blew it last night when I hosted friends for a game night- wine, various munchies, Christmas cookies,…
  • I found a local place that rents snow shoes w/poles- so before investing in a pair I'm going to try it out. Thanks for all the great advice, info and general input. :)
