Definitely do a good set of deep stretching before and after your workout and that will help a ton. You'll still be sore, but I find that I can at least function if I've done my stretches.

when I did this I experienced a bit of weight gain for several days, but as it turned out it was just water weight and I lost it all and was where I expected to be a few days later

Sounds like a good idea. I've already lost about 30-35 lbs but I have more than 100 to go.
