  • Oh so sorry for your loss, I have that experience too and I know how heart breaking it is. Like you I lost about forty pounds and gained half back! I kept twenty pounds off and really want to take the twenty I lost and then gained back off again. It is hard to maintain weight loss! I exercise a lot but need to continue to…
  • OP you need a structured lifting programme (a few good beginner ones were linked above). If you are unsure of what you are doing, a session with a good personal trainer to learn the correct form would be recommended. With your long runs and calorie deficit you will be a prime candidate for muscle loss so sufficient protein…
  • Thank you for the recommendations, I needed those details and examples. I do yoga for runner's a few times a week and that has made a huge difference in my running and injury prevention. I am looking to continue with running and yoga and start some kind of stength training.
  • Thank you both, I have been investigating strength training and I am not sure where to start. My goals are to definitely look leaner, I already look a lot smaller than before I lost the weight.
  • So impressed with the distances everyone is running! I run three days a week usually covering 19-20 miles total. My long run days are between 9-11 miles, training for a half marathon right now. My appetite also is surprised after long runs but surges the next day. I normally stay with in my calorie goal to loose except the…
  • My ah-ha moment was gradual which led to small changes. I had had three back to back pregnancies and my body was exhausted and I had no time for myself! As my children grew a bit and became more independent I could take more time for myself. In the past I was never overweight so I had not tried and failed or succeeded in…
  • Interesting. I lost over thirty pounds with just adapting my calories in versus calories out to create a deficit. Once I exercised I found my appetite went way up and my weight loss slowed considerably!
  • Me too! Or people have told me "you look great" or "I am inspiring them"!!! After loosing thirty one pounds people are starting to notice. I had no idea my pre baby body could ever come back, I am loving seeing my curves in the right places reappear! 9-10 more pounds to go and the positive attention on my success so far is…
  • I am 5'4, started at 180lbs in March 2016 and currently weigh 149lbs. My goal is 140lbs, I am 42 years old and have two small children. The way I have lost 31lbs in four months was to follow MFP caloric recommendations, weigh my food using an accurate food scale, increase physical activity if I added any calories.
  • Thank you for this post, I need perspective too! I am 42years old, 5'4 and started at 180lbs in March 2016. Currently I have lost 30lbs and weigh 150lbs, which was my first major goal. Working on reaching 140lbs next, will reevaluate after reaching that goal!
  • Well no rush for me, I am happy to adjust and go slow. But, I am a little nervous to consume more calories as a baseline all of a sudden!
  • Do you think MFP increased my calories when I changed my goal to help ease me into maintenance? That makes sense to me, maybe that is why the calorie goal increased. Now I am questioning if I have always just adjusted weekly pound goals instead of goal weight.
  • I mentioned my new goal in the original post, that is all I changed. I have double and triple checked this-same activity level, same age, same height and sane goal of 1lb per week. These have been my settings all along for months and months now. It seems weird my caloric intake would be raised.
  • It seems contrary to everything that helped me loose thirty pounds, why increase caloric intake to loose when everything else (age, height, activity level) has stayed the same?
  • It said 1lb per week. Current is 150lbs, new goal is 140lbs. Height 5'4".
  • I just re-ran the goals and same outcome.?!?
  • In March 2016 I committed to loosing weight after several not so spirited attempts. Three months in I have lost about 24lbs and still going. My biggest lesson has been that calories in versus calories out is the key to my weight loss.
  • I am also hungrier (stomach growling at times!) as I get closer to my first big goal. I am 5'3, 156lbs and almost 42 years old. I started at 180lbs in March 2016. Every 10lbs I have had to reevaluate my calorie intake and exercise routine to create a deficit and feel satisfied enough to keep my stomach from growing. After…
  • Thank you, so overall lesson is as I get closer to my goal the weight moves more slowly. Reduce my expectations per weekly drop and increase calories, maintaining or increasing exercise still working towards a deficit to eventually reach the goal.
  • Our lives sound identical in some ways! I started at 180lbs, have two sons 4 & 2 years old, and I am 5'3. I also work full time and so lots of volunteering. I have lost 20lbs as of last weekend and I am working on another 10lbs. Each week I meal plan for the next week for the whole family by Wednesday. I foodshop on…
  • Great message, weight loss is not linear -there will be ups and downs. It can take patience and trouble shooting when things stall to get results.
  • My overall goals were to do cardio vascular exercises two to four times a week, to run 3 miles, and to loose 30lbs. I am doing cardio vascular exercises three to five times a week and doing some strength training a few times a week too. I have started a 5k running program and have done just over 2.3 miles. I have lost…
  • I must have mistakenly switched it, it is open now.
  • ridge4mfp - ovulation coincides with my increased hunger! Julie2038 noted.
  • My stats are almost identical to yours (I am slightly older!) and I eat 1230 calories/day. My diary is open. Normally I eat rice cakes with some kind of nut butter, yogurt with a small amount of granola and fruit, eggs a lot.
  • My starting weight was 180lbs in March 2016. I am 5'4 and eating 1230 calories a day and exercising 3-4 times a week for about 30 minutes. Currently I am down 18lbs with a goal weight of 150lbs. When I reach 150lbs I will reevaluate!
  • Interested in this post as I head towards my last twelve pounds before goal weight (down 18lbs so far). This past week I have started to feel very hungry eating just below caloric daily goal.
  • Just like you I wanted to loose weight but could not seem to do it! Once I followed the advice that others are sharing here about making sure I had a weekly calorie deficit the weight steadily started to come off (I am down 18lbs). I measure and weigh everything!
  • New & learning about weight loss this post was perfect for me to read. I have lost 15lbs and it has not been linear, but not having an understanding of that led me to question myself on slow or no loss weeks. Continuing on with this knowledge along with a lot more I am learning about intake, output, measurement etc.…
  • The article was funny and informative. I like the direct and simple nature of the article, even though I can see the author has some in depth and understanding of a complicated topic area. I actually used this article to link me to the suthor's note on plateau and I got the answer I was looking for for myself.
