  • Thanks everyone for help and encouragement. I did shop around, test rode different bikes. I tried Trek Emonda and really liked it. And still it was a close runner up after Pinarello. Trek had rival groupset, sram, wireless. Was very tempting. Plus it's here locally. Ended up finding Pinarello online and ordering it. Not…
  • Thanks @BrianSharpe , no, not desperate. But don't want to wait a year. My bike got badly damaged in the latest accident when I got hit by a car, so i don't have that as I'm awaiting repairs. Getting a second bike. I feel like that too, that I'm settling. But still, that Cannondale is a nice bike. Idk. Person that hit me…
  • I feel that there are things that completely out of our control, like an accident or an onset of some terrible disease. But there are many things that we can control and therefore improve our chances on longer and healthier life. Good quality of life is very important, imo. So good healthy diet, keeping healthy weight,…
  • Love it, @NorthCascades!!!!!
  • Hi, I'm a cyclist. I ride all year long as I'm fortunate to be in the climate that allows it. I ride quiet a bit, 550-760 ish miles a month. Add me!
  • Yes, it's nice and crunchy. I guess i will just leave it without the scallions this time. My large jars are taken with kombucha, so i fermented in smaller, quarter gallon jars. How can you tell from looking at the jar that it wasn't fermented long enough, not too many bubbles? I'm too new for that! Thank you! Sample spread…
  • My first attempt at kimchi. Not bad, i left it to ferment for a couple of days only because i was worried that it's too warm. I've read that ideal temperature is 65-70 degrees, and my house won't get that cool ever, maybe few days a year. Usually it's 80 during the day, 74 at night. So i tried anyways. It's in the…
  • I use microwave to sterilize jars for canning. I think it's much quicker than baking and boiling and less hassle. I wash them and put as much as fits o my the microwave plate while they're still wet. Give them few minutes on high, check to see that they are all hot, give a little more time in small increments. Let the jars…
  • And if you need to bring change of clothes and jacket, bring an older one, not too fancy. No one is probably going to mess with it.
  • I leave everything locked up and out of sight in the car. Bringing bag with a towel and the car key without a fob. If uncomfortable leaving key with my stuff on shore, i can bring it to swim with me, zipped or in Velcro pocket of my shorts. I see no reason to bring phone, money, wallet to the beach.
  • Maybe it's a blood sugar issue, if it's persistent, i would think you should talk to your doctor, get blood work done. At same time, they can check for vitamins and hormone levels to see where you are. What are you usually eating for the rest of the day, does it affect you same way? Are there food/ meals that make you feel…
  • No, never had soil tested. I will look into it.
  • I'm in the zone 10b and my soil is sandy. I have compost pile and use that plus ash, store bought compost, organic fertilizer to amend. Still, i struggle with growing things in my garden. Beets, carrots, cucumbers won't grow at all, squashes and zucchini don't grow either. Cukes and zucchini get powdery mildew and no…
  • Great gadget, i love mine too! Was a present from my daughter after i was hit on the road. I can't imagine riding without it. One time i left for work and realized i left it behind on my other bike, it was too late to go back for it. I was so panicked at first, and then uncomfortable for the rest of commute. Doing same…
  • Few years ago my blood work showed that i was low on B12. I'm not vegan, but i don't eat too much of red meat or organ meat lately. So on advice of my doctor i started taking B12 supplement every day. One year later on annual blood work check my B12 levels were through the roof. I initially cut back on supplement to 3 days…
  • Thank you!
  • @ChaoticMoira , can you post your fudgesicle recipe please?
  • I've tried everything, stretching, foam rolling, making sure i drink plenty of water, supplements. While helpful for a little in the beginning, stops working and terrible night time cramping is back. Finally found supplement that's been working long term for me - magnesium chloride. Mind you, I've read a lot on this topic,…
  • Cabbage, broccoli and mango slaw. Other veggies that go in it are jalapeno peppers, red bell pepper, onion, cilantro, scallions, canned black beans, cucumber. Dressing is a vinegar (i use apple cider), lemon or lime juice, touch of olive oil if you like ( I don't add that anymore, i find it's great without extra calories),…
  • I'm doing pretty good with mine. Caused by cycling crash. I did some physical therapy for it for a while. It helped a lot. Barely ever bothering me.
  • @acpgee Yes, thank you! I'm not new to pickling, I've done some. Grew up with pickled wild mushrooms, cukes, tomatoes. I like pickled beets too. Interesting tip for broccoli and cauliflower, i will try that. To my watermelon rind i added black peppercorns, anise seeds, sliced ginger ( love ginger!), cinnamon stick,…
  • @acpgee , what's your recipe? I'm very intrigued, never heard of it. But i have a big watermelon in the fridge and i just cut some up and already made rind chunks. I looked online, but if you can share your way of making it, that would be awesome!
  • I paddle board, cycle, walk, started to play pickleball. On days when I can't do any of that, i have a stepper for an indoor exercise. It's nowhere as fan as outdoor things, but i watch my fav shows and time passes quickly. Oh, and i also can't stand gym.
  • Oh yes, no sunscreen in the eye glasses area or higher. It will find the way in and will blind and sting. Also my sunglasses sit tight against the forehand and face and kind of divert the sweat away from eyes. Every little thing helps. I ride in hot and humid weather for a good portion of the year. It's also possible that…
  • I use bandana. It gets soaked, extra sweat runs down sides of my face, at least nothing gets into my eyes.
  • I don't eat fast food or drink soda because i don't care for it, haven't had for years. But i love chips, pretzels, chocolate, cake, cookies, candy bars and eat those every day. I have pizza here and there, because wife loves it and i join in. I have lost about 80 lbs, and in maintenance for 4 years. So just manage the…
  • I'm seeing similar tendency, my stomach sticking out like it never did when i was young. I'm 49, two kids. I'm physically fit, athletic built, low body fat, but my gut is more prominent than i would like it to be. Go figure... I don't do any specific stomach exercises, like crunches. I used to in my young years, so…
  • I use leaves too, pretty good results. There's plenty of them during my garden season and they are chemical and pesticide free, as they're from my mango tree. So win-win. And free, of course 😂
