  • Sometimes it seems like the world just conspires against us, doesn't it? ;)
  • Thaddeus, wondering WHEN I will get done with my work and take him out already!
  • Walking is the very best thing when you're just starting out. There are swarms of walking programs on the web, but even if you just start out walking an eighth of a mile every other day for two weeks, you'll start building up your strength and endurance. There's no rush! And lots of people here have lost great amounts of…
  • Thanks -- this is the first I've heard of it.
  • MFP doesn't provide plans, paid or unpaid. This is a calorie-counting app -- also designed for keeping track of nutrition and exercise. You're going to find people following low-carb, high-carb, keto, low-fat, IF, vegetarian, vegan, high protein, and all kinds of other programs. You get to choose your own eating program.…
  • “Fast” is not an option. Trying to lose weight fast almost guarantees that you’ll gain it all back again. Make “healthy” your aim and you’ll have a much better chance of learning to live and eat in a way that will keep the weight off.
  • Welcome to the boards! Hope keto works well for you, and congratulations on a very good start!
  • I've been thinking about what my goals are, going forward. Some are fairly lightweight, others are more serious. And they do keep evolving. Here's where they stand today. January 2020 Scheduled walk 3-5 days a week Think I’ll work on hitting 5K as below Hit 5k steps 3-5 days a week (don’t have to be the same days) Try out…
  • Thanks, @hansep0012. I've been slowly ramping up my activity. It was only a couple of years ago that I was swimming and walking daily, but a knee blowout put the squash on that rather abruptly. Right now I'm happy to be walking 5K steps a day, and -- rather like you -- thinking about getting back to the gym and pool. At…
  • I poach it in the microwave in a mix of white wine and water, with dehydrated onion flakes, peppercorns and a bay leaf. Serve with a dill sauce (plain yogurt, dried dill, lemon) on top of couscous, with asparagus on the side.
  • In MFP you choose your own food, your own amounts, your own timing. Of course if you're new to this, it can be pretty scary and confusing! We can help you along the way, but the choices have to be your own. Have you gone through MFP's goal setting? That will give you a starting place for daily calories and a macro split.…
  • You're good people, remyrunnels1, and everyone here wants the best for you. Hope to see more successes for you going forward!
  • I've had counseling over a lot of years, for various reasons although my weight was always involved as well. Having the opportunity to talk deeply about something with somebody who was not involved with my life was a tremendous relief. A problem that looks huge from the inside sometimes comes down to a manageable size just…
  • This is probably the wisest thing I will read on the internet today. Thanks, NovusDies.
  • I admire the whole idea of New Year's resolutions/goals, but 365 days is just too long for my attention span. This year I'm making monthly goals and January's is Walking. The goal is to have a scheduled walk 3-5 days a week, and to hit 5K steps 3-5 days a week (they don't have to be the same days). I intend for walking to…
  • Hi, I'm Ann-Marie. 61, currently 311, 5'7". I've lost substantial weight several times in my life and each time gained back to where I'd been, plus more pounds. I've been diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure, the whole ugly cocktail. This time, though, the aches and pains of being sedentary are worse than…
  • Also, a great many entries count inherent sugars (fructose, lactose) in fruits and vegetables and treat them the same as the added sugars (sucrose, glucose) in more processed foods. Most people only need to be concerned with added sugars, but the entries don't differentiate between them.
  • MFP never changed automatically for me. I waited too long to update my numbers and wound up in a long stall. After I realized what was happening, I've made sure to go into Goals (about every five pounds lost) and change my own numbers. Can't hurt to keep an eye on it, and you actually see the changes being made.
  • There's really no difference at all. If MapMyRun works better for your devices, then use it and know that the data is all going through the same software and should give you identical results. Best of luck!
  • We worry and we get overenthusiastic sometimes. Please let us know how you come through this.
  • It applies to everyone, no matter what their status or goals are. (And have a good time getting everyone on this site to "follow format".)
  • . . . darn, and I came in for the barbecue. ;) Everyone here has given you good advice. You're learning how a lean(er) body is supposed to look -- congratulations on your success!

  • Grape Nuts Flakes with blueberries. Either that or Alpen muesli with yogurt and blueberries. (Blueberries. Mmmmm.)
