It is not a bad thing to keep an open mind to the possibility that we may be wrong about how part, or all, of any diet applies to each of us as individuals. We are a long way from personalized medicine (wisely applying profound medical knowledge to individual genetics and circumstances), and never is a long time.

I seem to recall that other variables (hematocrit?) can affect A1c as well. Testing glucose yields a better picture of glucose than A1c. Neither says much about insulin.

Does anyone know: - whether the same holds true for other generic - name-brand combinations, such as anti-hypertension medications or statins? - are there reliable web sites that publish reviews of generic equivalents? Is the FDA a good source of information? Thank you.

Erythritol and stevia are safe choices, and good tasting in small quantities. Monin's lineup of sugar-free syrups includes hazelnut, vanilla, and almond, all sweetened with Erythritol. Just add good coffee and the highest % heavy cream you can find, and you're all set.

There should be no increase in protein on keto. There is an ideal range where you will not lose muscle tissue but will not consume so much that unneeded protein is converted by your body into glucose. Beyond your maximum carbohydrate allotment and protein within this range, everything else should be fat for keto. I am not…

Thank you for exploring this.

I am also curious about this. Does anyone have any experience with sodium bicarbonate?

free. Labdoor.com is very good for the products it covers. ConsumerLab.com has many product reviews and interesting news items, but memberships are $64 for two years.

. This would be hard to prove. A variable without independent predictive value may contribute to risk profiles when combined with other factors.

Such as sugar and flour in soups and sauces? I saw a "healthy choice" wrap in the hospital cafeteria last week. The tortilla was 29g of net carbs, but the description used the term, "low carb wrap."

No, all other things being equal, ghrelin tends to make you hungry. You make you eat more. There is much grey in the areas of nutrition, hormones, and behavior, including hormonal interactions. Asking whether a single hormone is on or off is barely scratching the surface.

Nice collection, @KarlynKeto. Thank you.

I shed a toy poodle. A cast-iron doorstop toy poodle, that is.

This is true. I hope to stop my own global warming before my globe gets any warmer or larger. My blood sugar will go down if I fast, or if I eat fewer calories and carbohydrates. That is state of the science project to date. Minimal knowledge, but useful.

If you pay attention to what food and medicines go into your system and what comes out, you are a science project. You can choose whether to observe or ignore some effects, but others will seize your attention, like it or not.

Aversions to animal products come in many forms, and carbage need not be the inevitable alternative, even for diabetics. Creativity matters, too.

The only diet that works for many diabetics is to eliminate all simple carbs, drastically reduce even complex carbs (net carbs <50g/day), and exercise (walking and also some resistance training). It takes several days-couple weeks to adapt, but the hunger pangs disappear for most people who stick with it long enough. Many…

Nice to hear you found relief. Do you anticipate being on omeprazole indefinitely or only for a limited time? I was put on omeprazole, after asymptomatic gastritis surprisingly appeared during an endoscopy, and told to take it for 1 year. But I stopped after 6 months at the recommendation of my PCP, who was concerned about…

Keep it simple: "It's MY body!"

Great to date, hell to live with (whether said of scales or Scotch).

Here's a resource: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/mobileart.asp?articlekey=2024 Assuming you're on a reduced-carb diet and are taking in plenty of water and sodium, I might suggest adding potassium (look for salt substitutes in your grocery store) and magnesium to your diet. This really helped my resting leg cramps!

Scales are ok to date now and then, but hell to live with.

Look at the Low Carbers' Daily group. The sticky LCD Launchpad is a good collection of information, and the LCD group has a lot of smart people with diabetes.

Congratulations! The Chol. elevation is not significant, and the LDL rise is probably not an issue either. I'd say you are doing just fine!

How about Chinese-style fermented vegetables?

Do you make kimchee? It seems that most Korean markets sell only varieties with added sugar. P. S. "Fermies." Do you live near the nuclear plant?

Dr. Fung humorously explained how to commercially launch a proprietary diet through the use of gimmicks, or hooks, and other marketing techniques. One commenter finds it ironic that Dr. Fung's regimen apparently has proprietary elements also.

What do you make?

He has unlocked the secret formula to adoration and riches. Do you think pickles or mustard would be a better hook?

Hello. I have been following a ketogenic diet for several months. I haven't had a rash, nor cupcake or bacon breath (maybe something in between, since that's everything), nor transient keto flu. So those three goals have been met. I have also lost 4-8 lbs. per month, so there's one that's matters. What I still hope to…
