Hmmmmm, I get weight fluctuations from one day to another, but if one over eats and gains 5 pounds in a week, seems like that's gotta be real weight. The other thing I don't get is when people say one day or one week of over eating isn't significant with the "whole picture" of one's weight loss, wouldn't every time you…

Ummmm, no. Disagree on that one, Jayco seems spot on. Why do people want to over-simplify weight loss with this whole CICO "formula"? Our bodies are MUCH more complex and different foods ARE metabolized differently which absolutely CAN influence weight loss. Go to any medical library and read stuff for yourself. If it were…

Yay! Congratulations- that must feel awesome!

Sorry for your loss. Good luck with your weight loss. I think you have the motivation part down!

Snarky.....

Exercise. You will be better off. OK! Bad grammar but true statement.

I guess I'm one of those people who just can't separate out health and weight loss. I exercise for an hour (give or take) a day to sustain weight loss. It is more than just the "CO" part of "CICO" that a lot of people throw out. It helps your mood, which, if one eats for emotional reasons, can be extremely beneficial. It…

Better yet, make your own hamburger/chicken sandwich or whatever. You will know exactly what is in it, how it is cooked, etc. and it will taste better than mass-cooked food that lays around until sold....

Best baking book EVER: Gluten-Free Baking by Robert Landolf. Get it from Amazon, it is amazing. Not only does it have nutritious, delicious recipes, but goes over different types of flours and how they work, substitutions for things, etc. just FULL of information. Also, I don't know where you live, but Trader Joe's has…

Of course they do! Why else would herbivores grow? They only eat plants and they obviously have muscle and fat.... Come on, people!

I don't think it is burning much, to be honest. Biking requires you to use your core to keep balance, etc. I highly doubt that there is a lot of calorie burning going on here, sitting in a chair and moving your legs in this. Some, to be sure, and certainly more than just sitting, but not a lot if your heart rate doesn't go…

I don't see the point in eating if you are not hungry. Doesn't make too much sense to me. But you know your body better than anyone. Go with your instincts.

Agreed
-
Yea, it stinks. I know it was for a good reason and wouldn't change it for the world, but it still stinks.
-
Sounds like you got it! Congratulations!

Agree, leading by example is the best you can do. Don't try to get your family to do things your way; just doesn't work. Sometimes, we have to figure things out for ourselves through the tried-and-true method of sometimes failing. Be there with support and advice (if asked) but when they see you being happy and healthy…

54 here. Striving to be the best I can be. Our metabolisms may be a bit against us, but our life experience can provide us with the determination and drive we need that we might not have had decades ago. At least, I like to think that.
-
Sorry, it I have to judge this. I judge you as being brave to tell us and ask for support! I know it is hard. Proud of you - no one will think badly of you. I hope this community can provide you with what you need.

I'm 54, be 55 soon. It is not impossible to lose weight at our age. Unfortunately, I think it might be a bit harder because metabolism does slow down a little with age, but it is nowhere near impossible! I think you need to believe that you can do it; without that, I'm not sure you will be able to lose. I've lost 45 pounds…

Yea, I'd be more than "somewhat happy"; I'd be celebrating and doing the happy dance! Congratulations, you've done really well!

I think it is also important to say the following, because it helped me a great deal. What the above posters said about getting your calorie limit, CICO, etc. is certainly vital, but I think this is, too. You gotta want it. You have to think about why you want to change your lifestyle (and don't kid yourself; it will be a…

Huh?

If the OP has made an informed choice for her circumstances, why can't we just say, great! Why do you have to change her mind, basically marginalizing her own feelings and decisions. As much as it may seem unbelievable to anyone, some people can't have a great relations nship with the scale. For many reasons. OP, if…

You think it is had after 40, wait until you're 50! If that doesn't motivate you, nothing will. Best thing to do, figure out your TDEE (as best you ca,. Unless you have access to specialized equipment, good guesstimate is what you're going to get) and figure out how much you want to lose each week. So, if you want to lose…

NO.... just, NO

I don't think they were putting anyone "down"; some of us do tend to come across as know-it-alls. Sometimes, we can be pretty rude as well. Not especially nice when someone is looking for an opinion.

Congrats!

Why does it make you mad? I don't understand. People are obviously just concerned. Even if you feel they are wrong to be concerned, why do you have to get angry about it? Most people like it when others care. Why would it upset you if people say "Oh, I could never do that" in response to your telling them how you achieved…

Nice!
