• Thanks for the responses everyone. Well I gave it another go this eve and slowed to 4mph - my normal walking pace. I found this much harder than 5mph, it was way harder on my legs and I presume that’s because my leg muscles have gotten used to me running a certain way and strengthened accordingly a for 5mph gait. I did…
• Thanks, I do suffer from asthma and it hadn’t even occurred to me! My asthma is only triggered by certain things which I now avoid so it’s under control. Will take my inhaler before I run and see if I do any better
• Yes all treadmill. I walk really fast, always have so 5mph is really only just breaking into a run. When I tired 4.5mph it was terrible, I could neither walk nor run......I basically stumbled it. 5mph is definitely my natural gait that my body feels comfortable with.......or maybe it’s just habit and habit can be changed.…
• So if that’s the case and I am already a slow jog, maybe I do need to switch back to just brisk walking. I brisk walk at 4mph and jog 5mph
• I run at 5mph.....slower is a brisk walk. Can’t really get any slower. I did try 4.5mph, my brain and legs were so out of sync, couldn’t get any rhythm going at all - it was harder than 5mph.
• If you remove all the spiel, then yeah that’s pretty much it. Having researched it, it’s very much how most of the UK ate back at n the 70’s, and I remember growing up very rarely seeing someone overweight. I also don’t remember ever going hungry. Just clean unprocessed food and 3 square meals a day.
• Financial: Fitbit, exercise bike, road bike and annual gym membership. Time: I invest 5-7 hours a week in my health and mental well being. Still fat though but I am so much fitter and happier, well worth the investment.
• A half hour brisk walk before and after work will clock up about 7000 steps, a little bit more active in the home when cooking or doing chores and you would hit your 10k a day no problem. 10K really isn’t that hard to achieve, I work a desk job and hit 16-18k daily with little effort. I do take a half hour brisk walk in my…
• I work a desk job and still manage to get 90-100k steps in a week. I walk to dogs, take a brisk 30 min daily walk at lunch time and I go to the gym after work 3 times per week. I am also active around the house, and active on a Saturday doing all sorts of stuff. It’s all about avoiding the couch as much as possible. 15k…
• I have 2 ponies, a Welsh cob and a New Forest that I share with my daughter. They are my main motivator for losing weight and keeping it under control. Caring for them certainly burns some calories! My favourite exercise for sure is horse riding, it’s so much fun it doesn’t feel like exercise at all :)
• I just chose the middle of the healthy weight range. If I ever get there, I will reassess. But it’s a mighty big if!!
• I had my gall bladder out 10 years ago. I can eat anything now. I eat salad daily and never had an issue. Post op, the only thing I was advised was to stick to the low fat and bland food I have to eat whilst having gall stones and to slowly introduce the foods I gave up and see how my body reacts. It took a good 6 months…
• I too have just moved from obese to overweight. It’s quite a milestone. I have promised myself I will never be obese again. Good luck working your way through overweight to a healthy weight
•
Very ture, I no longer feel uncomfortable with daily activity like I was at 190lbs. But I know I am still fat when I see myself naked or just feel my love handle when siting down, so I don't think I am losing motivation, but maybe I am in a subconscious level.
So maybe it's not the head playing tricks,…
•
Yes! It is exactly the same thing with me. Your are right, it is probably our mind playing tricks on us. I won't give up this time though. My current plan is to avoid buying any sweets since I can no longer control my portion as I used to do. I am also going to commit to logging, so even though I had a binge date,…
• Omg I could have wrote your post!!! I am 5'2" and I was 184lb and easily got down to 165 which I have maintained for a year. But can I hell break that 11 stone barrier which is 154, I just stall around 160. So I have spent a year up and down again and again with the same 7-8lb. It is driving me nuts :( I haven't found the…
• Don't kid yourself, be brutally honest with yourself about what you eat. I admitted I was just a greedy pig off the back of this advice and was finally able to change my habits.
• For me it's an end goal. Tough mudder in 3 1/2 months with 50 work colleagues and not wanting to make a *kitten* of myself by holding the group up. I have never been able to run, but this in mind on my 2nd attempt I managed run 1min followed by brisk walk 2mins x 15 totalling 3.3 miles. It was a shock to me that when…
• Never thought of it that way. Definitely only ill neck up......so need to man up
• I ate 5500 calories in one day recently as it was my best friends birthday. So what? I logged it and moved on. It may have delayed me reaching my long term goal by 3 or 4 days. But of course that's unlikely when it's going to take me over a year to get there. Everyone has either special occasions or off days, it only…
• I took pics in my undies at the start when I was 12 stone 10lb and again when I reached 11 stone 7lb, I could really see a difference. Not just in my weight but I have folds in my back and they were so much better. I plan to take pics every 7lb now to check progress. I also hit the weights and despite still carrying 30lb…
• I go on weekly figures, so at weekends I tend to burn a hell of a lot less but eat the same as throughout the week. So on exercise days I am under and over on weekends. All works out perfectly when I look at the figures weekly. This works much better for me, I don't like having so much food one day and so little the next.
• I eat back if hungry, if not I don't bother. I have a fitbit, but I think it over estimates my calories burned, although a bit early to say as I'm only about 2 weeks in. I just can't believe the calories it gives me some days, and for what seems so little effort - way above my BMR. So am being cautious at present, but open…
• Whilst there is nothing you can do to tighten loose skin, there are things you can do to minimize it and improve it's appearance. Losing weight slowly certainly helps as your skin does retract over time, so by losing slowly your skin has the opportunity to shrink back as you lose. Weight training and strength training can…
• Oh how I wish this was happening to me......... My boobs shrink with my body :( I was a 38D, now a 36C and when I hit my target weight I will be a 34B or even a 32A....fried eggs spring to mind :( I have curly hair, but I've always wanted straight hair. All my friends are envious of my curls and I think they're mad. I have…
• Thanks. I plan to follow the Fitbit. I bought it as my weight loss has stalled and I thought it would help me figure out why. Whether it does is another matter, but it's certainly got me moving a lot more which can only help
• Thank you for the responses, it all now makes perfect sense!! I have changed settings to allow a negative calorie adjustment so I can see a true reflection of that time of day. A negative adjustment will just make me move...like the fitbit that says: take me for a walk :)
• Not great...I need my jaw wired lol. Glad you're having some success. Hoping to be back next week with renewed enthusiasm as I have lost zilch this week
• I am only 1lb down so far this month so a little disappointed in myself....but it's still in the right direction. I am stugging to be honest, I have been at it since the beginning of the year and I think I have hit diet fatigue if there is such a thing. I know what the problem is, I normally cook plenty of health food on…
• Just joined, hello everyone :) My goal is to reach 147lb by July 21st when I go on holiday. I am currently 161lb - so 14lb to loose in about 11 1/2 weeks. I will still have a further 21lb to loose once I return - but that's another challenge for the future :) I am also aiming to get in 10 hours of intentional physical…
