  • Obesity is achieved by behavior and it's a choice -- a choice that individuals make one day at a time, one hour at a time and one meal at a time. There’s nothing “short sighted and shallow” about recognizing it for what it is.
  • When people are being honest, I think it’s childish to play that juvenile “oh you hurt my precious feelings” card because somebody spoke the truth and said something you didn’t want to hear. If somebody doesn’t want to have people see that they’re fat, they shouldn’t allow themselves to be fat.
  • Me: 19 (Started on 2/4) LNS: 2* Present Streak: 0 Blew it again. A depressing last week of the month. Oh, well. At least my overall numbers aren’t bad. Here’s looking forward to a better March.
  • Which specific enzymes? “Elevated”--by how much--a “not a concern” thing or a major problem? Your doc should tell you how much of a problem this is and what you should be doing. If I was you, I’d be getting qualified professional medical evaluation and advice--not unqualified input from anonymous internet forum posters,…

  • Just one persons personal experience, but... Every single time I’ve ever “won” anything from any organization that make its money from returning customers, all I ever “won” was a transparent come-on to get me to sign a contract.
  • When I was ~2 weeks into this challenge, I strained my lower back and I’ve now spent ~6 weeks mostly immobilized, living in my recliner. I just managed to fight my weight back down to ~1 pound under my start weight, so I’m now 7 pounds short of target. My back problems are diminishing and hopefully fading away, so 3/1 is…
  • Did an hour this week. Finally up to my hoped-for level! Intensity of back problems diminishing noticeably. I think I’ll try a real bike on my CycleOps trainer this coming week and see how that goes.

  • Me: 16 (Started on 2/4) LNS: 1 Present Streak: 2 Back on the wagon again. My March goal will be an unbroken month-long streak.
  • Terry is a female-focused company, so their stuff should probably be good. Garneau, Castelli and Pearl Izumi are strong in the market. Assos is the gold standard, but costly. Ask the people in your local bike shops. They will likely know what’s best regarded in your area.
  • A pound a day is a medically unsound level of weight loss and it’ll be unsafe on an ongoing basis.

  • There’s a wide range of what you can do--from short, slow+easy sessions by yourself to the “take no prisoners” intense madness of some extreme gym spinning groups. I’m no experienced info guru, but... If you’re just starting out, try moderate intensity sessions that aren’t too long so you don’t beat yourself up right off…
  • That’s creepy and it’d be possible trouble in my area. If that happened to me, I’d write down the license plate #, car description and as much of a description of the driver as I could manage. That kind of thing is one of the reasons I always have a note pad and a couple pens in my handlebar pack. I also frequently carry a…
  • Definitely shop and get advice at local bike dealers. You’ll find out which is/are the good one(s) quickly. They’ll size you up and fit you for a properly sized bike that’ll be best for your needs and intended uses. IMO, the saddle is close to the single most important component on a bike. A good saddle can make a poor…
  • I also frequently have trouble falling asleep. There are days when I go to bed and can’t fall asleep for 2 or 3 hours. I use Melatonin, but all it does is help me experience deeper sleep in the last hour or so I spend in bed. It doesn’t help me go to sleep. I used to do a bedtime snack, but all that did was make weight…
  • The year after I stopped smoking in 4/2002 was a very difficult time for weight control for me. Basically, I packed it on. It took me some time to pull out of that trend. But wishes and best of luck with getting a handle on it quicker and better than I did.
  • Me: 14 (Started on 2/4) LNS: 1* Streak: 0--lost it last night.
  • Starting weight: 261.3 Goal weight: 200 Current weight: 260.8 Past week weight loss: 3.0 Total weight lost: 0.5 Past week’s success: Another week in the recliner with back problems. Losing 3 lbs and getting back below my starting weight are both significant victories. This week's challenge: Trying to keep losing while…
  • This joke’s obviously on me--all I ever looked at was the nutrition info. I wonder why they even bother doing the “original” (98% egg whites) and the “Egg White” product (100% egg whites). I think from now on I’ll grab a dozen eggs and dump one into the mix every time I scramble up some of my EggLikeFauxBeaters. It’ll have…
  • Welcome to the club. On IF.... I don’t eat any solid foods or drink milk after 6:00pm, so I do a ~13-hour IF every day. That’s a major IF escapade for me, but I do it every day! Multi-day IF runs are beyond my reach and even my imagination, but I congratulate those who can actually do that.
  • Advance apologies for going off the subject of your thread, but.... I tried doing egg whites, but I just couldn’t hack them. I moved into doing “Egg Beaters” (original) and I scramble them for breakfast 2 to 4x/week. They aren’t the equal of real whole eggs, but they aren’t bad. IMO, edible (which I don’t count egg whites…
  • OMG.... I’m having flashbacks. I was a kid when the late 1950’s craze with the WhamO Hula Hoop hit the US.
  • Check out this calculator -- https://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc It’ll give you estimations of calories burned for a tremendous variety of activities.

  • Former roadie. Between 1-2 dozen years and a few dozen pounds ago, I regularly did half-century, metric century and century rides. Then--aging, surgeries, blah,blah... Last year my total mileage was a small part of what a good month would have been “way back when”. One of my more ambitious fantasies for 2017 is being able…
  • Thanks for that link. That looks like a good calculator and a helpful record-keeping system.
  • Only another cautious half-hour this week. Lower back problems still continuing, but getting less intense. Maybe and hopefully this next week will be my “breakout week”(?).
  • Me: 11 (Started on 2/4) LNS: 0 Streak: 11 I always knew I needed to stop eating for the day by 6pm but before I starting this challenge, I honestly never had any idea how much I was into LNS--especially when I include beer and milk on the “not allowed” list. Paying attention and recording my score has brought me into a new…
  • Here’s hoping! Just got a new pair of goggles, but I literally haven’t even been into a pool in ~15 years.
