  • There was an episode of my 600 lb life where the 600+ pound woman had met her husband through a fat fetish community. The husband was completely unsupportive of her getting weight loss surgery and started throwing childish fits when his wife started losing weight. Totally agree that this behavior is abusive, the woman was…
  • My ex- (ftm) boyfriend found that he could build muscle much more easily after starting t. Strength training might increase your appetite and if you'd like to put some weight back on adding muscle mass is never a bad idea. He never had a problem with appetite decreasing but he used protein drinks mostly to up his calories.…
  • Not sure how true this is but I've heard girls tend to get their periods around the time they hit 100 pounds. So one possible explanation for girls getting periods earlier on average is better nutrition and more childhood obesity.
  • I think most people tend to lean towards 'just so' stories to explain certain phenomena with natural selection- but afaik we have no idea if prehistoric peoples had aches and pains (or what age they got them) because we can't ask them! I broke several bones as a child, I'm sure if I was a prehistoric person without current…
  • Is this a Seventh Day Adventist owned hospital? I've heard of SDA owned organizations getting pretty invasive asking about their potential employee's health habits because health is a part of their religion. I'm not sure how I feel about it generally but at least with the Seventh Day Adventists it's kind of like, 'oh,…
  • Cream cheese, sour cream, mayo, most packaged foods. I tried reduced fat Doritos once, they had absolutely no flavor and picking them over regular Doritos saved less than 50 calories. Not worth it. I will eat reduced fat cheese if it's getting melted into soup or chili but not in a sandwich.
  • For this week I made white bean and chicken pesto soup, a marinara and cheese baked ziti, and egg salad for sandwiches. I recently tried Aldi's 45 cal/slice bread and it's not bad for making sandwiches with a high calorie filling. Would not use it for toast though. Breakfasts, I'm eating my way through a Costco size bag of…
  • I also googled and most of the ones I saw only eat eggs for breakfast. Which like, I guess you need a catchy title for your fad diet but two eggs a day is not really that many. Basically looks like the military diet without the ice cream.
  • Pho is pretty tame without the organ meat toppings- most places will have a list of meats you can pick from so you can just order the ones you like. Jalapeños, basil, bean sprouts etc usually come on the side so you don't have to add them. Edit: totally missed the part where you said he will probably eat pho. Anyway, pho…
  • I have super sensitive skin. Washing as soon as I'm done and using a mineral based, fragrance free sunscreen helps. Avoiding sunscreen entirely isn't good for me because a gentle sunscreen seems to give me a little bit of a buffer between my skin and the sweat. Mineral sunscreen active ingredients are zinc oxide and…
  • Sorry to derail, but assuming you are new to cat ownership do lots of research before making food for them. They're obligate carnivores and cats can get deadly vitamin and protein deficiencies if you don't balance their diets correctly. Commercial food is forfeited to prevent this. I love my pressure cooker, I use it to…
  • I would get crippling TMJ long before I could chew enough gum to significantly impact weight loss.
  • Sweet potatoes and cauliflower. I will sometimes eat sweet potatoes in their most unhealthy form (fried with some chipotle or garlic aioli) and sometimes cauliflower puréed into soup is ok.
  • B: Dave's killer bagel with cream cheese, coffee L: Corn chowder D: Lentil soup, sourdough bread, string cheese S: Dannon light and fit greek yogurt, maybe Talenti sorbet
  • Breakfast: hard boiled egg, pink lady apple, field roast breakfast sausage Lunch: Garlic tofu stir fry with rice and broccoli Snack: Protein shake, raw veggies with hummus Dinner- Black bean taquitos with salsa
  • I think most American recipes are pretty wimpy on seasoning to begin with, and when you take away the flavor from meat it really shows. But it depends on the recipe source. I used to own a low fat vegan cookbook called Appetite for Reduction and that food was the blandest *kitten* ever, even when I was 100% plant based. I…
  • I'm trying dry January this year and made it through this first weekend, but this is going to be hard ugh. I LOVE craft beer. My favorite thing to do on weekends is sit in a bath with a beer and my laptop set up so I can watch tv. I'm doing sparkling water and herbal tea but it's just not the same. My sleep is much better…
  • I only cook for myself so I make 3 4-serving recipes a week for lunch and dinner and eat them all week, leaving two lunch/dinners for restaurant meals. Breakfasts are just whatever I thought to buy. This week I'm making red lentil soup, cheddar corn chowder with bacon, and black bean taquitos with cilantro lime rice.
  • I've used Moodnotes before but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has never been in CBT with an actual therapist before. It basically gives you a simple flow chart to identify cognitive distortions but the "now what?" factor is very much lacking compared to working with a therapist. Sometimes just noticing the thought…
  • Portioned out hummus, yogurt of choice, kodiak pancake mix and berry syrup, salad greens, chicken breasts, frozen fruit, protein powder. Hot dog and diet soda on the way out for lunch. Their dishwasher detergent packs are the only effective detergent I've ever used in my old crappy dishwasher too, which helps me not dread…
  • I've heard a theory that the calorie counts from massive chain restaurants probably are fairly accurate, because the recipes are strictly followed so the food is consistent at every location. Plus it adds up if chefs at many locations are randomly adding an extra 1/4 cup of sauce to a dish or whatever. Just make sure that…
  • You're following a niche diet. I had the exact same issues when I was vegan, plus a lot of ribbing and some family bullying on top of it. Don't go out of your way to tell people you're carnivore and they won't say anything (no thank you is fine the explanation is inviting commentary). Also most of the cost of a meal is the…
  • You need a mental health professional. You need to see a professional who is specifically trained to handle anxiety and eating disorders. Nobody here can give you the insights and coping strategies a therapist can. ETA I know what it feels like to be exhausted inside your own brain, I used to have horrible anxiety that…
  • While it is true that interest in plant based diets is growing and many Americans are shifting to eating more poultry than red meat, Americans on the balance are NOT eating plant based diets. This article has a chart showing meat consumption in the US. The amount eaten is dropping slightly but is still well above what it…
  • Based on how sensitive you are over people discussing this issue, I am guessing it is a bit of a sore topic for you. Is there a discrepancy between your values and your diet that you haven't been able to resolve? Because when I see a discussion I feel is useless, I leave. I don't repeatedly come back to the thread and tell…
  • I eat meat, including beef, and I still acknowledge it is horrible for the environment. I just limit beef to special occasions like you would do with something like lobster. Grass fed cows create more methane than grain fed because grass it tougher to digest and requires more help from methane producing bacteria.
  • Everyone is allowed to eat what they want but it is irresponsible to claim that eating mostly beef is more sustainable than a grain based diet because you feel that this is true. Climate change is not trivial.
  • https://www.businessinsider.com/the-top-10-foods-with-the-biggest-environmental-footprint-2015-9 This article has a chart comparing the carbon footprint of various foods and includes a breakdown of what carbon comes from production vs transportation. Rice barely charts compared to beef. Shelf stable items like rice tend to…
  • Cows, just by existing, create huge quantities of methane on a daily basis. Methane is a very potent greenhouse gas and methane production is a byproduct of cow digestion no matter where they live or what they are fed (and grass fed cattle may release more methane than grain fed btw). This is what people are referring to…
