  • Yeah, coffee if anything. Anything else is a waste of money IMO.

  • I don't know you obviously, but reading your post made me really proud of you. Starting is definitely hard, but there will be little milestones along the way that will make all of this worth it. I guarantee you one of these days you are going to realize that your clothes are starting not to fit anymore because of the…
  • Maybe you should try reading through the whole post before giving such horrible advice. She gave her stats, and the numbers that her dietician gave her are on par with those stats. They weren't just pulled out of thin air like you claim. Her dietician clearly knows more about her than you do, and maybe you should be the…
  • You're backpedaling now. If your first post was simply an observation, then why would you claim that I should have included a disclaimer saying "but that's just me" in your second post? You were quick to misinterpret what I originally said and changing your position now seems pretty childish. But again, that's just my…
  • Last line of the OP's post reads: Has anyone else had an experience like this? How did you handle it? Do you think its okay to go around giving advice to strangers? I simply answered these questions. Never at any point did I tell OP what I thought they should do, because she didn't ask what she should have done. She asked…
  • So if I am understanding this correctly, you cut to 1200 calories two weeks ago, lost 3 pounds the first week, and nothing the second week? If that is the case then I wouldn't be concerned at all. Weight loss is not linear, and if you really are in a calorie deficit, then you will see weight loss again sometime soon. I…
  • I don't think anyone is arguing that advertising has nothing to do with consumption, if it didn't then companies wouldn't pay as much as they do to advertise. What people are arguing(or what I am at least), is that advertising should not be blamed, or used as an excuse for an individuals lack of willpower. I may see a…
  • That may be true, but I don't understand what that has to do with what I said, or why you feel the need to critique what I said. I simply stated how I would react in that situation, but I wasn't telling the OP how she should have reacted. I think she has the right to react however she feels fit. I am male, which is why I…
  • The difference is, not everyone who purchases these products overeat. In fact, a product doesn't need to be advertised for someone to overeat on them. A person who does not practice restraint isn't going to practice restraint whether the product is advertised or not. Blaming food companies for trying to make a profit isn't…
  • Call me non-sociable, or whatever, but I really don't want to be talking to anyone at the gym, period. There is a big difference in being polite and saying hello, to giving advice or inquiring about someone else's workout. That annoys me to no end, and especially in this situation I would have probably told the guy to…
  • This is by far the most judgemental post I have seen today. I have never known a single person who was proud to be obese. I agree that people need to take responsibility for themselves, just as we all should be mature enough not to judge other people we don't know.
  • So whats is your point? Just because there is extra cost associated with obesity, that doesn't give anyone else the right to fat shame people. The whole point that @NorthCascades was making was that the idea of fat shaming to try to "help" someone is an absurd idea. Are you seriously challenging that thought and trying to…
  • Strong does not equal fit. I would disagree with the idea that Brian Shaw was fit in this photo. Strong, sure, but fitness is not represented by the amount of muscle a person has.
  • The internet is a pretty safe and trustworthy place, so you could be right.
  • Yeah, the part about many men asking to see it because they have heard stories is right about the time my eyes started to roll.
  • I think now some people are going to point to this study and claim that its not their fault that they are obese, and its all just bad genetics. Others will use this to try to invalidate CICO. I'll go make some popcorn and wait for the show to begin...
  • Exactly this^ I don't understand why some people on here feel the need to food shame others. Personally, I like a protein shake when I am looking for extra calories and don't want to feel too full. The idea of shoveling in ground beef instead is not at all appealing to me.
  • And who regularly was averaging between 8-15000 steps daily. His BMR alone would probably be near 1800. His exercise burns may not have been completely accurate, but he should have definitely been losing at 2100. I realize all people are different, but that doesn't mean I am going to blindly accept things as fact when they…
  • I read through this whole thread and the general consensus definitely was NOT to lower his caloric intake. You even stated in the original post that he found 1800 calories unsustainable so it makes zero sense to do that. At his stats I find it very hard to believe that maintenance is 2100 calories especially since you…
  • Or he is eating at his parents house which you yourself said was a trigger place for him. There is no way you can be 100% certain of his caloric intake. As stated earlier in the post, you don't seem to want to accept most of the good advice or explanations you have been given though so its kind of pointless to continue.
  • It is a forum to advise and help which is why people will point out when worthless advice is given. Reducing belly fat has nothing to do with salt or sugar, and everything to do with lowering body fat percentage. A lot of times, belly fat is the last to go, and getting rid of it requires a caloric deficit.
  • I have never had a secret stash, nor would I ever feel the need to "sneak" food from my significant other. Thats a totally foreign idea to me, but I don't view any food as bad so maybe that has something to do with it.
  • Not a single person that has had success here achieved what they did in a week. If you want to have long term success then you need to be patient and stick to the plan. A lot of people fail because they are not rewarded with instant gratification and they give up too early.
  • Does this surprise you? He claims a lot of things with little to no evidence to back up those claims.
  • This also explains why I never wake up pretty.
  • If MFP gave you a goal of 1500, and you are not eating any exercise calories back, then why are you only consuming 1400 daily? I can understand not wanting to over-estimate your calorie burn, but you should at least eat what MFP recommends.
  • Its great that keto worked for you, but I'd argue that the benefits you saw were a result of the weight loss, and not keto specifically. Keto helped you to achieve a caloric deficit which is great. It does have that affect on some people, but if you are currently stalled, it may be because you are no longer in a deficit.…
  • I would love to see a specific example of this. What people tend to push back against is unfounded claims, and the poster you are defending seems to have quite a few of them. If you are going to make claims, you should at least be able to defend your position. I don't see that happening.
  • If that's the case, then again, I would like to know what value you are bringing to the conversation? Regardless of whether it was a statement or an argument, I think that a man capping his calories at 1200 is foolish and it makes you sound even more foolish when your rationale is that it didn't kill you.
  • No, just no. You can't just throw calorie figures out there like this and assume that all people are the same size and have the same needs. This is why MFP has you input your stats before providing a calorie goal. The numbers you quote above may work for some people, but they definitely don't apply to me, nor would they…
