BMI doesn't measure anything, it is a value that is derived from a person's height and weight. Since water does make up part of a person's weight it would be included in the calculation, but I see no reason that it should be excluded. It seems to me that the people getting all worked up abut BMI are the ones making excuses…

Hey, good luck. Feel free to add me if you are looking for friends.

I get a physical every year. I actually had cancer earlier this year and was finally cleared in July, so I have spent a lot of time at the doctor this year. This will be my fifth shoulder surgery and I don't recall having to take a physical before any of them. I think its weird too.
-
I have to go regardless. Like @mph323 stated it is probably mandated by insurance or something. On the bright side, I should get the opportunity to turn my head and cough while having my balls fondled, so there's that. Great way to start off the new year.
-
Personally, I find that BMI is generally a good guideline for the majority of people, but I did just have a case yesterday where I was affected by my BMI. I scheduled an upcoming shoulder surgery for mid January, and when doing so, I was forced to also schedule a pre-op physical based solely on the fact that my BMI puts me…

I don't quite understand this post. Are you seriously trying to claim that your TDEE was 667 before you broke out your elliptical? Because if so, then no, there is no way that is correct. And who is this "science" that told you this?
-
I was able to exercise through my first three rounds, but after that I just found that I didn't have the strength any longer. Chemo definitely does a number on your body and it makes recovery near impossible. My best advice would be to make sure your body is properly fueled during this time and be kind to yourself. I felt…

Oops, you beat me to it.

I can't say I have seen people recommending protein for weight loss, but rather to preserve muscle during weight loss.
-
If the calories counted are greater than the calories burned, then you're right. You can't just count calories, a deficit is required.
-
So because most people personally disagree with you, you feel the need to insult them? No, not everybody needs a food scale, but as others have pointed out, it can be a valuable tool, and you completely ignore the context of which the advice is given. If everyone was starting from the same point, had the same stats, and…

Even if his activity level is higher than most, it doesn't disprove any of what his point actually is in that post. He is still eating in moderation because he is not going over his TDEE. That number is going to be different for each individual and he basically proves that as long as you stick to your numbers calorically,…

Or half a dozen threads about how BMI is not relevant started by people who believe they are outliers.

Its just the same old tired attempt of trying to point to any one thing in particular to blame for the obesity epidemic. If its not battery powered cars, its video games, or carbs, or sugar. God forbid people enjoy any of these things in moderation and practice balance in their lives in terms of overall activity such as…

Oh good God, now I am encouraging obesity because I bought my daughters a barbie jeep that they can drive around our neighborhood? I bought them bicycles as well, and always encourage physical activity, but apparently I am still encouraging obesity for buying them something they enjoy. Seriously, where do people come up…

Just because you haven't seen the commercials, it doesn't mean that they don't exist and aren't a major part of their advertising strategy. It seems like you are trying to argue that PF doesn't really mean what they are saying in these commercials because you haven't been exposed to them. That seems to be a pretty ignorant…

There seem to be quite a few people around here whose bodies inexplicably defy the laws of thermodynamics. I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting to get contacted by a scientist to study you though, because anyone who is fact based knows that weight loss requires a calorie deficit. If you weren't losing weight over a…

For sure. :)

If you are eating over your maintenance calories, you are going to gain fat regardless of the macro breakdown. If you are strength training then you will gain muscle as well, but fat gain is unavoidable. Where that fat gets stored is up to your body and not under your control.

Its cold and windy outside where I live right now. I will be doing some strength training after work, and may run afterwards. Are you seriously suggesting that I should run outside instead of using the treadmill conveniently located 20 feet away in a temperature controlled environment?
-
What constitutes too many carbs? Is there a reason you are afraid to eat carbs?
-
If this is the case, then why are you training twice a day, five days a week, and incorporating cardio before strength training? That doesn't make any sense. I am going to echo what has already been stated above and say train smarter, not harder.

Enjoyment would be a reason. So that not all food is required to be looked at as just fuel.
-
Or pizza. Pizza is fantastic fuel. Pizza and ice cream are definitely two of my favorites.
-
I agree 100%. I fuel my workouts for sure, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the rest of the food I eat. Balance is definitely the key for me, and what has made my progression sustainable.

If you are 125lbs over a healthy body weight, and you aren't hungry eating an average of 700-950 calories a day, then I don't believe you are actually eating that few calories. Nobody in their right mind is going to tell you that few calories is ok. I don't even know how you can fit 6 "meals" into 900 calories if they…

That's solid reasoning in my opinion. You have no knowledge of the man or his work, yet you have been vehemently defending him and telling the rest of us how mean we are for simply stating the truth. It's not like we are going to the mans house and kicking his puppy and peeing in his cheerios. Get off of your moral high…
