  • Are you able to see a therapist/counselor? Personally, talking with a therapist regularly was what helped me with this more than anything else. It's still a struggle but it made a big difference for me.
  • I am really with you, and a very similar weight gain also. Im 5'3, was around 135 before COVID. I didn't weigh myself until this morning- 143. It sucks. I have also been exercising, but the changes to my diet and extra alcohol I guess were just too many calories. It stinks, I'm sorry.... You're not alone!!
  • TDEE is about 1900-2000 so I subtracted 500 daily for a 1 lb loss per week-ish. I'm quarantining with my two kids, so I don't always have a lot of exercise, it just depends, but my fitbit usually says I'm around 2000 calories
  • Oh also, to answer the question of how I came to 1300/1350 calories per day, that's basically taking my 1400-1500 per day and subtracting a little so I can have one day per week at 2000 calories. I've always done better with weight loss when I have at least one day with higher calories, I have felt like it prevents plateaus
  • When I calculate your TDEE for a sedentary job, I get 2200.... So if you've been eating only 1000 calories a day, that's a pretty severe deficit to be in long term. Have you seen a nutritionist recently?
  • Oh yeah, I definitely know what you mean. I try to have sparkling flavored water or something like that instead, or save calories for that time
  • I would have to do more research on this, but I wonder about the chicken and egg scenario here ... Like is binge eating CAUSING the diabetes, or are people with a genetic predisposition to decreased insulin sensitivity and hyperinsulinism then predisposed to having binge eating episodes due to issues with satiety and blood…
  • Yeah, honestly, I feel like my brain would freak out and not be able to do it... Which is crazy because hypothetically "I'm" in charge of what I do. I think that the whole binge habit was started as a kid and that mentality of good or bad food, on a diet or off a diet, is so hard to break. Even if it's not an actual binge…
  • Yes! It's really easy to get in the habit of eating little bits of the kids food or random things like licking the knife after PB... I just had to change my habits, scrape the knife on the PB jar, throw out the little leftovers I was eating. Tracking can really open your eyes to some things!!
  • I think this is very wise and has been very true, in my experience. Over the past 3 years I was able to maintain my weight consistently by preparing with a very slow weight loss prior to that, and then basically eating the same but slightly more and having occasional meals out that I didn't track. Things went sideways…
  • I think maybe I need to think more about how I have been wording things and "cheat meals/days". I definitely appreciate what everyone said, because I can see how that isn't really a mentally healthy attitude. I DEFINITELY struggle with binge eating- not like pathologic or insane amounts of food, but for example, I want to…
  • I might need to up my calories a bit or eat back my exercise calories to fit in ice cream. I'm trying to maximize the food I can eat on 1350/1400 calories and it can be tough because it just not that much food to have wiggle room for ice cream. Also, just to be completely honest, I don't want to have a super tiny scoop of…
  • For reference, I'm doing 1350 per day, and I'd like to do one higher day per week. 1350 with one day at 1800ish puts me at 1 lb per week loss
  • I have the same issue. Sometimes I'm so hungry that it's hard to sleep. The only thing that I've found that helps is to save enough calories for a balanced snack (around 200) before bed... Honestly though, when my body is in a deficit, I'm just super hungry, and I try to come to terms with it and realize that's why losing…
  • OP here- so happy for all of the responses. Definitely makes sense, what many have said.... How can you define "set point" when you aren't in a vacuum and have varying environmental factors that would affect your food choices, activity level, etc. The other day I was looking through some YouTube videos and there are a lot…
  • Oh cool, that's good to know. Thanks everyone! I'll stick with MFP for tracking
  • Quick and simple- Moderation, exercise, somewhat low carb- but not too low!! Minimize processed foods, increase healthy proteins, fats and complex carbs. I've learned that if I drop calories too low or go too low carb, I feel horrible and end up either extremely irritable or binging (probably insulin spike?)
  • Just wanted to offer some support, even though we aren't totally in the same boat... I had a traumatic pelvic injury during my daughter's birth 7 years ago, and I have big set backs a couple times a year where I have to go back to PT and can't exercise. It's really hard and I get down about it, and very frustrated. It's…
  • I have PCOS and I usually go with a low carb plus calorie counting, that helps to control my hunger and I can lose weight or maintain more easily. I've been hearing talk of intermittent fasting and keto for PCOS, but haven't been able to find any reliable sources for that, so I'm going to hold off on those for now.
  • Congrats!!! That's amazing. That is good to know though, maybe I will try adding in some quick, simple exercises and see if it makes a little difference
  • I definitely could add more strength training, although it's hard because I tend to have injuries since having kids (ligament laxity). I do a lot of core and pilates, and exercises from my PT, but nothing that would add mass upper body wise
  • I'd say like 2 years since I lost 35ish lbs (post baby fat loss over the course of a year of deficit and exercise). I'm kinda thinking that what's left now is not going to shrink anymore. I "could" lose more weight, I wear a size 10 in pants and it's not like I'm super lean, but I just don't know if I care to get crazy…
  • :) I'm definitely wearing sleeveless shirts!! I think it's a combo of skin and fat honestly. Definitely is a change because when I look at my total body fat and where it's distributed, I never would have had fat on my upper arms 10 years ago when I'm at this weight. So I'm hesitant to go crazy with a deficit to try and…
  • Yeah, I know that water weight is a factor regardless, but I'm pretty sure that on a deficit, especially if that deficit is lower in carbs than maintenance, you will lose some water weight from that... So I do think I'll aim for the lower end of the range
  • I tried that too, when the trend first started. It didn't work for me either and it didn't help my hunger. I definitely agree with others, to try different breakfasts- try higher fat, or higher protein, etc. Honestly, when I'm losing weight, I'm hungry all the time. It just is what it is, and it's how my body is. Even when…
  • Me too. I followed him. Loved his recipes and seems like a cool guy. Also another issue of mine- certain popular Connecters are bragging about being in the Freestyke commercial... they didn’t lose their weight on the Freestyle plan. That’s so misleading and ridiculous. I’m losing so much respect for WW and some of these…
  • I think it depends on how large your gap is... have you seen a Pelvic Floor/Women’s Health Physical Therapist? I closed my diastasis from 3 fingers to 1 finger through a rehab program with my PT, which included NOT doing certain things for a couple months, and strengthening my transverse abs and glutes. Definitely you…
  • Thanks everyone, that’s good to hear. Maybe I need to basically do everything in more moderation than I was doing before
  • Hmm. Well I guess maybe I need to cut to where I want to be, and then try maintenance/recomp again. I’m not sure if I can manage the consistency required for real muscle gain right now. For example, everyone in my house has been taking turns being sick for over a month, so I haven’t been to the gym consistently in over a…
  • Thank you, that definitely makes sense. Maybe I have to weigh my desire to be at a certain weight with the mental cost. I could always try CICO again but not focus so much on the macros like I did. I got obsessive with the macros, which was probably unnecessary. I think just plain CICO could be doable for me. WW used to be…
