Longevity benefits of periodic fasting? (eg- monthly)
I know there is info about the potential benefits of various kinds of fasting, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about periodic fasting, like once a month? I feel like the science on fasting in general is SO contradictory, when I look for specific articles, it seems that there are some conclusions in mice, some with…

I hate the scale so much 😫
I know that water weight and "whooshes" are real, and I've lost weight before and had to deal with it so intellectually I know that... But in the moment when you are sacrificing, trying so hard, going to bed hungry... It just sucks when the scale is a fickle b*. I shouldn't have weighed myself today because my ring is…

Estimating Thai take out
Any tips with this? I'm thinking of ordering drunken noodles for my higher calorie day today, and I feel like the options when you search are all over the place. I'm thinking if I ordered something more simple like a Thai basil stir fry, I could estimate it better based on the protein and veggies. Any tips??? I love thai…

Win today- dieting without restricting
For context, I have a history of an ED in the past, so dieting can be really tricky for me, it's like walking a tightrope between overly restricting and binging/gaining weight. Well I've been tracking, and I ordered some fancy macarons which came today... Instead of either NOT eating them/hiding them, and instead of…

FINALLY lost 2 lbs!!
I've been tracking and in a deficit for 4 weeks and I finally lost 2 lbs!! I honestly hate the scale, so I was just randomly checking and sometimes my weight would be up, which I know is just water weight but still frustrating. I could also tell that my ring was tight for some reason so my body was holding on to water.…

How to not sabotage results with a cheat day
How often do y'all do a cheat day, and is it a cheat meal or whole day? I don't have a ton of wiggle room with my deficit since I'm only trying to lose 5-10 lbs. BUT I won't be able to continue the deficit if I don't have ice cream to look forward to sometimes!!! Curious how you successfully fit these kinds of things in.

Not eating enough??
So I'm back on board to lose the COVID weight, have about 10-15 lbs to lose. 5'3, 143. I have 2 kids, I'd say I'm 'lightly active' plus some walking, jogging and pilates. I have set my daily goal as 1350, with one day per week at around 1600 and one day at 2000. I've done this every time I lose weight, although usually…

Not tracking green vegetables...
Does anyone else not track green vegetables? I know that they obviously all have calories. I feel so burned out from all of the tracking, so I decided not to. I do track squash, carrots, etc. Thoughts?

Jillian Michaels app- thoughts?
I got the free trial for her app, mostly for low impact exercise ideas. I'm in the free trial period, so I can cancel. I'm wondering whether I could get something similar for free on youtube, esp since I don't need the diet part of it since I'm tracking in MFP

"setpoint" vs healthy BMI and intuitive eating with PCOS
Curious people's thoughts on these... Is it possible to accept a setpoint weight that you are genetically determined to have even if it's not a healthy BMI or body fat percentage? I'm a nurse so I know there is a lot of scientific evidence about the detrimental effects of obesity on CV disease and endocrine effects. But…

DB method?
Does anyone have the DB method machine? Have heard from a friend it was good for glute activation and pelvic floor. I have some patelofemoral knee pain and high tone pelvic floor issues, wondering if this would be good or bad

Calorie/macro tracker- Fitbit app vs MFP?
Hey all, trying to cut a bit to lose the pandemic 10ish lbs I gained. I treated myself to a Fitbit and just realized there's a food tracker on there. I don't feel like double counting my calories- anyone have an opinion on the Fitbit food tracker?

Honest opinion- upper arm flab
I'm really looking for an honest answer about the dreaded upper arm flab that women get... I never thought I'd get it, and here I am, 36 with 2 kids and I have it. My question is... Should I just accept it and continue my general healthy lifestyle? Is it worth it to add a bunch of upper body strength training, will that…

Goal weight- set low for water wt?
Trying to figure out where to set my goal weight... I'm thinking 2-3 lbs lower than my actual goal, to account for water weight. I know once I increase my calories and start having some wine again, I'll gain some water weight back. Thoughts??

Drinking wine while losing weight...
Normally I don’t drink much wine when I’m actively trying to lose weight... a summer home with my two little ones and I’ve been having more wine than usual, which is derailing my efforts. Wine lovers- how do you balance out having a little wine with losing weight? I hate to drink my calories honestly, but it’s a bummer to…

Recomp fail...
So I’ve determined that my body type is not meant to gain muscle easily... or even with difficulty. I tried doing Strong Curves and I ended up hurting myself. My PT told me I have hypermobile ligaments, plus I have never been a muscular person, even in high school on the tennis team. Is it reasonable to say, I can’t…

Vanity weight? Double chin?
Looking for some support and advice... Mom of 2 here (2 girls, age 5 and almost 2), still nursing the toddler. I’m 5’3 and probably 138ish, haven’t weighed in a while. I’m a size 10/L in pants (have a booty), size M in shirts. I want to lose 10 lbs to be around 125-128, which my ‘perfect’ weight, in my mind. I know that…

Losing ‘last 10 lbs’- WW vs CICO
Hey everyone... I haven’t been on since I was doing maintenance/recomp. It was fairly successful, but now I’m ready to lose the last 10ish lbs, or at least attempt to. I’m still nursing my 2 year old, but I’m planning on weaning over the next couple months. I got back on my WW app and the program changed again, now lean…

Managing evening hunger and sleep
How does everyone manage their hunger at night? I usually save calories for a bedtime snack, but I'm still starving when I go to bed, and it makes it hard to fall asleep. Any tips?

When to start cutting? Or continue 'recomp'
I'm driving myself a bit crazy about whether to continue to recomp or to start a deficit. I originally stopped WW to work on strength and muscle gain. Because of a recent shoulder injury, u can't lift heavy right now, but I'm still doing my best to get a challenging workout in. I haven't weighed myself in a long time, but…

Does anyone have "weekly calories"?
I've done WW for years on and off to lose weight, and was always successful, but am trying MFP this time bc their new program is annoying me (fruit and veg free, way more points for fats and sugar). One of the things I really like about WW is the "weekly points", because I could work in a date night and not feel guilty or…

Just ate over 1000 cals of Graham crackers :(
Ugh! My kids don't start school until next week and they are driving me CRAZY!!!! So obviously when I had two seconds alone without them, I ate over 1000 calories of Graham crackers. Not sure where to go from here... I guess low carb the rest of the day? Sigh....

Strong Curves- full body lifting 4x a week
The Strong Curves program suggests a full body lifting program 4x per week, his rationale being that women are able to recover quicker. I also do a Pilates reformer class one day per week that I'm going to keep doing. I'm just wondering how to fit these 4 days in... I'm assuming I shouldn't do more than 2 days in a row,…

Exercises/stretches to accompany lifting
Can anyone tell me any shoulder/back/upper body exercises or stretches they do to help with barbell squats and deadlifts? I realized through my shoulder injury that I was probably neglecting in this area. I'm already doing bench presses, lat pulls/rows. Anything that would help with shoulder mobility and stability would be…

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome?
I'm seeing a PM&R Dr. in a week, but for right now, I THINK I have shoulder impingement syndrome. I've been doing Strong Curves, just finished week 4. My right shoulder has been hurting for the past 2 weeks, just doesn't feel right. It sucks bc I don't want to lose momentum, but I think I need to modify some things. Like,…

I'm so hungry!
This is just a vent thread... I'm starving!! I'm still doing Strong Curves (plus nursing), and I'm so so hungry. I literally think I could eat 3000 calories a day. Yesterday I had 2000 and this morning I feel like I haven't eaten in a week. Bret says in Strong Curves that you will feel more hungry, but to fight the urge to…

Recomp- mini cut or hang in there?
I'm having a bit of trouble with some of the weight I've put on since switching from WW to maintenance/recomp... my jeans are tighter, which is frustrating. I'm doing strong curves right now, and it's going well, im only 2 weeks in. I was hoping to finish the 12 week program before possibly dieting a bit if I still need…

PCOS- body image and food issues
Anyone else here with PCOS? I'm convinced that this is a large part of my eating issues... I'm ALWAYS hungry, so to maintain a normal/thin figure, I have to log calories and really really watch what I eat. It makes for an obsessive mindset, and can get really frustrating. I guess I'm lucky because I ultimately am able to…
