  • I had to stop complaining about my weight and hating how I looked and had to start actually trying to do something about it. Loosing weight is pretty simple really, it’s just CICO. But getting in the right headspace for it can be hard. That quote is so true- I also had to stop stoping after a bad day or couple of days and…
  • I think you need to figure out why you want to lose weight. Is it just because you’re “supposed to” before your wedding? Is it for the photos? Or is it because you want to be healthier long term? All of these things may require different motivation. Secondary to this, you can’t always rely on motivation for weight loss. It…
  • Relying on external motivation can work great while losing, but will do pretty much nothing for you when you transition to maintaining. People will stop commenting on your weight loss, and you’ll stop noticing the differences in the way that people interact with you because it has become the norm. To me, this is why it’s…
  • I am 5' 6" and initially started at 223lbs. I got down to 158lbs and had the most loose skin on my boobs- and there was quite a lot of it there. I also had some on my stomach, but not too bad really. I maintained around 165 and over a year the loose skin definitely did get tighter, though my boobs never returned to their…
  • This is such a great topic for a new thread! The first thing that comes to mind is how I will not miss being extremely self conscious everywhere I go. Even around family. I completely understand that always full feeling too, and it's not pleasant. Sometimes when I way over eat, I think about how I'd almost prefer to feel…
  • That’s so great! It sounds like you are very motivated and ready to accomplish your goals! I’ve used MFP very successfully twice now (the second time was to lose pregnancy weight), so I can attest that counting calories and weighing your food works! I’m glad you took pictures and measurements at the start, I definitely…
  • Definitely! Sometimes I just have to grab something while I’m out, which limits my choices. Other times I just want something that others would categorize as junk (like a candy bar or a pastry for breakfast. It’s all part of a balanced diet to me. My entire day isn’t junk food, I still get all my nutrients, but if this is…
  • I totally understand! Every time I get to about 158, I lose motivation. For this reason, I haven’t made it to the “healthy” category of the BMI (154 for my height) in my adult life. I’m 158 again, but this time I will get there! You may not like my first piece of advice, but it has helped me in the past majorly. If you…
  • I lost and maintained a 60lb loss in the past, and I cam back to this site to lose pregnancy weight and an additional 15-20 lbs. During these two journeys, I've had numerous petty reasons, but a few have always been with me. I have always wanted to look cute (sometimes I strive for hot, other times to be cute, and yes,…
  • Everything said above. If you’re not weighting all your food, I highly recommend it. It’s the only way to know how much you’re eating. Are you eating back exercise calories? If you are, are you possibly overestimating the calories burned? Don’t get discouraged!!
  • Hi Gabi! I’m 26 and in 2018 I lost 60lbs using MFP. I was 223 when I started at 5’ 6”. I’m back again after having a baby to lose the baby weight (I gained 50lbs while pregnant) and to reach the top range of the healthy BMI category for my height. I sent you a friend request.
  • If you’re burning out, then you need to raise your calories. If you’re aiming to lose 1lb a week, then reduce that goal to .5lbs a week. Whatever you choose needs to be sustainable in the long run, and going to hard from the get go can often lead to binging.
  • I was definitely like this for a while. I don't know exactly what helped me, but one day a switch just flipped and I was able to really hold myself accountable. Events and things of that nature occurring in the future like the upcoming wedding are not motivating for me, but seeing the change in my body and the drop in the…
  • I'm not 35 yet, but I am a mom to a four month old. I have used MFP successfully in the past to lose 65lbs- I was 223 at 5' 6". I maintained the loss for the most part. I'm back again as I lose the pregnancy weight (which I accomplished!) and an additional 20lbs to put me in the top range of the healthy BMI category. Feel…
  • 7lbs in just six weeks is fantastic! Slower weight loss is so important, especially when it comes to maintenance. There are no quick fixes as this is a lifestyle change, and you'll have to continue to do at least some of the same things you are doing now in order maintain your weight once you reach your goal. 0.5-1lb is…
  • You can do it! I have lost just about 70lbs using MFP, and I have 10lbs left to go. As long as you track everything (I recommend a food scale), and stay in a calorie deficit, even a small one, you will see amazing results! Feel free to add me.
  • If you are unable to indulge now and then, then this journey will be much more difficult. Your dietician is right, there are no good or bad foods. There will be days where you go over your calories, and that is more than okay, and by no means does that equate to "messing up". It's life. Period. Days that I go over the…
  • Feel free to send me a friend request! I’m back on this journey after having a baby boy 4 months ago. I am 6lbs above a healthy BMI (my initial goal) and I’m also starting to exercise and do basic strength training more regularly.
  • This is not the time. Please seek guidance from your doctor before attempting anything like this. You can control you’re weight gain while pregnant, but please don’t try to lose weight especially without the guidance of a doctor. You will have time to do so afterwards. I’m 4 months pp and I was overweight while pregnant…
  • Congratulations on your success! I agree with all of your tips! Once you start eating more mindfully, everything starts to get easier.
  • I totally understand!! But for ME, not having the food in the house at all doesn’t work for me. I’ve learned that I need to motivate myself to not eat some things even if they’re around in the house. I have to employ my own self control. Or I’ll eat a small portion of it but put in a lot of effort to stop there. Otherwise,…
  • The first time I lost weight (I’m back now after a pregnancy), I wish that I had weighed myself in the very beginning. My only starting point that I have is two weeks into the process, but I’m always curious to know what my initial starting point is. If you think it will derail you, then don’t, but if you’re committed to…
  • You can send me a friend request if you’d like. But remember that the best motivation needs to come from yourself. Any external motivation or support will come and go, but you have to be there for yourself everyday.
  • I totally understand! I’m 4 months pp and my weak pelvic floor is such a huge concern for me that I have trouble getting serious with exercise. I am breastfeeding which I credit to losing most of my pregnancy weight, but I still feel so weak. I have a prolapse, he seems weak pelvic floor, so I’ve been sticking to biking…
  • I’m also curious when your baby was born? I had my first child 4 months ago. I didn’t begin any exercise until about 4 weeks pp and that was just super light walking. I had a very slow, painful recovery and even after being cleared at 6 weeks I was definitely no where near ready to do more than light walking. Around 8…
  • I weigh weekly because the fluctuations are interesting to me. In the past I couldn’t do that because they would throw me off. I only record my weight on Wednesdays though.
  • 40lbs in 9 months is awesome! Unless you are obese, losing another 20lbs in 12 weeks is asking a lot of yourself. Aim to lose one pound a week at most. Remember that the scale isn’t everything, you can include some strength training along with a slower rate of loss to help you to achieve the body shape you’re after.
  • No. Cheat days shouldn’t be needed. I don’t want to feel like I’ve created something that I need a break from once a week. I’m creating lifelong habits which includes appropriate amounts of ALL foods.
