  • Okay. I'm confused too and Sunny_Bunny_ your photos are an inspiration, but I need help. Started keto mid-June. 1300 cal. 75/20/5. Pretty strict--ie. very. Had a weeks vacay in Aug., but stayed low carb if not strictly keto. Now it is Sept. 7. I daily check my Ketones with blood meter and it stays around 1.0-1.7--no…
  • @Sunny_Bunny_ me too. Love your progress. So interesting that your weight is stable, but clearly NOT your fat. So, if I get this right, you lowered FAT intake and hiked your protein. To what, may I ask? Do you do muscle building workouts as well? Great progress. Inspirational!
  • I lost so slowly at first, i thought I must be doing something wrong. But, in the end, I show a loss of about a pound a week on average, so I'm good with that. Bodies differ. And when the scale register down a couple pounds, it inevitably goes up 1 the next day. Water content in the body, I figure.
  • qweck3: how did you know when you were fat adapted? That is my main goal right now.
  • I use MCT oil and it does impact the bathroom routine as you put it :-). I was advised to increase it slowly until my system adjusts. I don't mind too much as the low carb eating can be low in fibre, which has its own side effects, but the oil counteracts that particular low fibre issue. :-D
  • okay, what is this thing with pickle juice? I'm such a neophyte.
  • Thanks qweck3. A font of information.
  • Ah Michelle--you are going through a really challenging time. When these times come, it seems like they are here forever, but they're not. I too am struggling with horrible back pain and I'm not finding treatment. I also struggle with depression. So I understand what you may be going through. Can you get out of the house…
  • I'd like to join the challenge if it isn't too late. Starting weight June 23: 177 Goal: 135 Goal for August (keeping in mind a week's vacation): 10 lbs Lost since August 1: 2 lbs. August 5: 168
  • I have a question regarding macros. My lean body mass would be about 110. How much protein do I need? I do 20 g of net carb/day.
  • don't be nervous. I like this WOE (although my weight loss has been slower than most) because I don't feel hungry and I don't think about food all the time. Just watch out for keto flu. I had a massive dose cause I didn't know about the sodium/electolyte depletion.
  • nothing wrong with coffee on keto as far as I know. I do a modified (lower fat) bulletproof at about 8 a.m. and then don't need to eat until 2. Then, I have dinner at 7 and don't eat again until my coffee in the a.m.
  • julepige. I use canned tuna, water packed for lunch, with celery, green onion and mayo. Mayo puts fat back. I eat a whole can and that is it. Lunch.
  • thanks Qweck. I see what you mean. My clothes are looser for sure. And I will do the tweaking you suggest. Nothing wrong with 6 pounds in two months, but people on here are seeing much more massive losses quickly, so i was getting discouraged. I'm seeing a change, though, and that is important. It could also be my meds. :-(
  • you look fabulous. Keep those photos!
  • Thanks again everybody. It is good to read your different takes on what is involved in keeping the body machine working well.
  • I was taking the MCT oil to improve my brain function and to accelerate ketosis. I have issues with foggy brain and I work in an intellectually driven job (higher ed). I also have a lot of pain from back issues/nerve issues, so MCT was recommended for that.
  • yes, I'm focussing on the carbs. for sure. I stay within 20-25, but because my weight loss is so very very slow (6 lbs in 2 months) compared to what others are reporting, I was wondering if it was a fat or protein issue. My calories per day are @ 1350. Perhaps I need to lower my calorie intake. If so, your advice is that I…
  • Fish is your friend then: tuna, salmon, shrimp etc. Other protein sources might be tofu. There is protein in eggs and cheese as well.
  • yes. butter is a good fat. Especially grass fed dairy, but that is hugely expensive where I live
  • yep, it is expensive. I just keep hoping the more we buy (when we can) the more folks will be encouraged to return the cows to the land and a decent life; then we won't have to cringe when we eat them. All part of a ecosystem. Current practice is part of a factory system ignoring all life.
  • Hi. I think Paul's points are good ones. How long have you been at it? There is a period of adaptation. I love Keto coffee because I don't feel hungry for another 4-5 hours during which my body is only fuelled by fat and I feel very alert. It took me 3 weeks before I had any real ketosis though. Now, after 2 months, I…
  • I'll let you know if either work for me. Thanks tons.
  • okay. so thinking through this great advice, I do the bullet proof to get the MCT (I cannot eat coconut oil :-( makes me gag). But I can quit that Keto coffee. Doesn't too much protein generate glucose?
  • my lunch is generally tuna salad with mayo and for dinner last night I had a chicken breast and large coleslaw made by me. A snack would be one handful of nuts (about 12). Or I might have a boiled egg or a ham stick or a piece of cheese if I'm hungry during the afternoon, but only 1 of these.
  • I stay at about 1300
  • Hi everyone. How do I join?
  • I watched it twice yesterday. Once for myself and the second time to prove to my partner that keto was a healthy way to eat. He is sort of keto (cause I cook) but not really. And one can't be sort of anyway. He is low carb. But he isn't feeling well lately and blames our diet.
  • I'm from the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Been doing Keto for about 6 weeks.

  • thanks everybody. I appreciate the down to earth advice. Not getting too strung out on every bite, but seeing the big picture! One pound a week is golden.
