  • It’s worth a try. IF helped me learn that I could comfortably go without food for a while and the hunger would soon subside. I found I could reduce calorie intake and feel satisfied. Being conscious of all I consumed made it easier to stop automatic snacking. Then I moved into reducing portions, for maintaining a small…
  • Hi. I started IF 16:8 six months ago. Found helpful info like: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/intermittent-fasting-guide. I realized how much control I have over eating, that a little hunger is no big deal (and it soon passes), and made healthier low-carb choices. I feel confident that the 14 lbs. I lost will stay…
  • Diabetes nerve pain was a nightmare for my mom. Her knee replacement failed under her weight and she was forced into a wheelchair. I decided to lose weight when I was diagnosed pre-diabetic, topped 250 lbs, and had knee problems. Losing weight made walking less painful. It’s taken years, weight on and off, but I just found…
  • Congratulations on taking steps to improve your health! Here’s my point of view. Try to remind yourself often why better fitness is important to you. Diabetes nerve pain was a nightmare for my mom. She got foot problems and a wheelchair. I decided to lose weight when I was diagnosed pre-diabetic and had knee problems.…
  • Congrats on your success and Thanks for the example! I’ll be 60 soon and have been losing weight by diet and basic home exercise routine with light dumbbells. Losing 20 lbs took a burden off my arthritic knees. It may be time to join a gym and develop a strengthening routine to lose the next 5 lbs and improve muscles to…
  • Paleo may be a good perspective for reducing carbs and sugar but coffee is still a good motivator and boost for the metabolism.
  • With health information and patient persistence, the change you want will happen. Definitely!
  • You’re not alone! Change is possible.
  • And journaling help me reassess, adjust, and stick with the work to make healthy changes.
  • You’re doing something like I did; recommitment to fitness using diet and exercise to break unhealthy habits. I lost 20# on keto diet but it came back. My progress this year has been slow but, I believe, sustainable. A recent breakthrough was trying intermittent fasting. I learned I could get past a little hunger and feel…
  • Hi. I agree. Focusing on overall fitness and strength is more realistic and effective for me than focusing on weight. Keep up the good work!
  • Hi John. We have this in common. I just started the community bit too. After slowly losing weight on my own, maybe the peer connection will help with the final push to my fitness goals.
  • Sweet ride! I found I could lose about a pond a week on average (more early on, then plateaued). But with strong motivation I bet you can do it!
  • Hi Jake. Like you I started my fitness plan over and over again. I kept a health diary notebook this year, which helped, but this week I learned how easy it is to raise my awareness of calories using MFP. I think it will help me stick to my plan longer. Good luck to you!
  • Howdy Gal! I’ve been exercising for months, started feeling better, and now started using MFP to help with watching calories too. I was alarmed to learn how alcohol is full of calories.
  • Hi chivalrous Batman. I bet protecting Gotham from evil-doers helps you stay fit!
  • I lost 20 lbs on Keto many years ago but couldn’t maintain it and started over again. Now I lost another 20 by watching calorie totals and avoiding carbs and sugar like they’re poison. (Of course I still have some sometimes).

  • Hi Mark. Sounds familiar. Its been a long time getting to the level of confidence and commitment to fitness I have now. On and off diets and routines. MFP makes being aware of what you eat and total calories much easier than before. Makes it easy to get back on track if you slip up.
  • Kidney stones are rough! My brother and a friend have suffered with it. I also like being much more aware of food using MFP. Keep hydrated!
  • Wow! Great goal. I hope your army boots were made for walkin’!

  • Hi Lisa. Have you heard about the LA hospital study about losing weight by eating avocados? https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/video/3926115-get-paid-to-eat-avocados/

  • Hi Laurie. I don’t know what the Restart plan is, but I’ve restarted my personal fitness plan several times this year. In any case I hope you succeed managing pain! I know how it can undermine good health intentions and make everything more difficult. Cutting sugar is awesome! I think it’s linked to pain.
