There is only one way. Lose body fat. For most people that is the last place you'll store fat, so it takes a long time.

^^ start a thread for which all day tracker is best and watch the storm brew...

^^ this. Exactly this. I was in pretty good physical shape ... but had no running experience. It was easy to talk and sing and run ... but my knees and ankles would hurt. The good people here taught me to slow way down and ... it made a huge difference. You are training your joints more than your heart and lungs for the…

@scorpio516 makes a great point. Are you hiking a TRAIL? Or are you going to be off trail climbing up rocky mountains ? I also wear trail runners on all my hikes... And summited Whitney, Kearsarge, etc all in trail runners. So unless you are scrambling boulders; or long lava fields (like Lassen) ...don't wear boots. On the…

Negative adjustment happens when your actual activity for the whole day is less than your activity amount selected in mfp. Walking 1-2 miles is still "sedentary" by most standards... if that is ALL the walking you did for the day. So if you are set as "moderately active" and you spent 23 hours in bed then got up and walked…

What do you want to do? For my purposes the garmin was well worth the extra money.
-
Mfp only gives you extra calories when your steps are over whatever steps are accounted for in your activity level. to the OP ... the people you see entering manually likely dont have a fitbit. If their base in set to sedentary; then logging it is correct.

^^ 100 grams of protein is not too much.
-
What do you even mean "too much for your nutrition" ? Did you have a specific macro goal? And if so .. why ?

My friend posted this on facebook: With some not very nice remarks. 4 months later, I'm not "there" ... but progress is progress. I'm still hoping for some abs by summer: And I'm training for a 15k race!! October first I could only run for 80 seconds. Those accomplishments keep me at it.

First and biggest thing would be return your osprey pack and buy a ULA. Second, return the kelty sleeping bag and get a Quilt... a good 800 fill quilt should be 15 ounces for 2 people to share. Quilting is Best advantage couples have, use it. On the Appalachian trail I used a mountain headwear sleeping bag ... now that…

I hiked Mexico to Canada over 154 days ... I had a 12 lb. Base weight (all gear, not food and water) and people teased me for it being so heavy. Sub ten lbs is the norm now for thru-hikers. Even for the 10 day stints between food resupplies, and with water; I carry max 45 lbs. If you list your gear list we can look into it…

^^ this. If you set your baseline to "active" or. you set it to "not very active" ... it will synch with your Fitbit and give you extra over the amount it gives you in the standard day based on your baseline. Just wanted to add, if you are set to anything more than "not very active" it is important to allow.negative…

Im a runner not a cyclist... but the default zones were waaaaay off for me too: Garmin default: New zones based on my lactic threshold: The personalized one lines up very well with my percieved effort (I did 1 of the miles really hard on that run, and it took a long time for HR to come down). Good news is now that I have…

I'd agree ... coming back from a stress fracture in the shin, I'd say long slow distance until running for an hour just feels normal. Then start doing speed drills.
-
And ... ENJOY IT. If the weather is good, and you have appropriate footwear for the type of ice ... it'll be more fun than anything.
-
Many can be walked by just about anyone in even below average fitness. Dont stress it. You live in Colorado, the altitude wont be an issue. I've bagged 30+ 14's, and one time saw one person who felt "altitude sick". If you let us know your specific hike and time of year, I can give advice on necessity of crampons of…

So I went to my Dr... didn't see him but saw one of the physician's assistants. She said since my tetanus was less than a year old, and it looks healed and bruised but not puffy, I am good to do whatever I "feel comfortable doing". In super bummed as my training was going well, but in going to take a week and stay off it,…

If you trust that you actually burned an extra 334, then yes, you should eat it back.

Went in more than a half inch, less than an inch. I was hoping to get a bunch of "man up, you'll be fine in 2 days" comments. Maybe not what i wanted to hear, but likely what i needed to hear. Ill leave a msg for my dr.

^^ no i have recent tetanus because of my work. It only bled like a teaspoon. but it feels crazy bruised. Didn't seem "redimed" level of injury

Heart rate varies a lot person to person. It's better for establishing your own trends. I'm a 35 male (average fitness) ... my 7 day resting HR average is 49. I find with my heart rate at 175 i am very conversational, breathing at appropriate rhythm, and feel good. I sing to verses of songs. At 185 I start to feel the…

Thank you all so much. Im a hyper-planner so the unknown is killer for me. So, lessons learned: Go easy on the first 5k, so you dont crash hard. (Ill shoot for something like a 27 min first 5k. My rest days are 30 minute 5k's right now.) Wait for the last 5k to really extend the stride and start flirting with lactic acid…

Full disclosure, i dont even know what a corral actually is ... like physically. If i have to start way back, does the time getting me up to the official start count against me ? Im inagining that could be 3 minutes or so ?
-
Ran a 5k at lunch today ... but man so slippery and cold ... check out the roads! Today is my recovery day so not a huge deal but it can be really hard on the hamstrings and stuff.
-
@WickedPineapple ... my friend and i were discussing how uncertain the temps will be. We could be in shorts, could be in full baselayer. ...If we are in the same corral we should fist bump. I live in Fort Wayne so its been hard to get outside, but I've been doing it as possible. I've Logged 4 10k's and a handful of 5k's…

Thanks @noblsheep ! I have been training negative splits. I try to do a "stretch the legs" first mile, then kick it back and work on slowly improving each mile. A typical run is seen here ... i assume this is reasonable, though i may have to cycle it twice for then 15k.
-
Thanks! Little off topic ... but if a 55 minute 10k is easy ... do you guys think a goal of sub 90 min is a good time to shoot for ?
-
Thank you so much @Duck_Puddle ... that gave me a real feel for what to expect. I guess i expected like a place where people actually stopped and ask for water, or a sports drink. The ability to have a quick gulp on the fly sounds awesome... and wont impact my time on the scale i am aiming for (90 minutes was my original…

Thanks. I just hear these stories of people who are fine and then hit a wall and everything comes to a stop for them.
