  • Well I mean depending on how much money we're talking here, it might be worthwhile to go low carb/low salt a couple days right before the weigh in and cheat your way to victory.
  • 3500 calories is a pound of body fat. So 2lbs per week is a 1000 calorie deficit every single day. Any more than that is insane and unsustainable. I'd say ask anyone making comments where they're getting their numbers from, but really the best thing to do is just ignore them. You've discovered exactly the reason I learned…
  • Having worked in a few restaurants and cafeterias...let me just say that the food you eat is often older than you think it is, and properly stored the difference isn't nearly as noticeable as you'd expect.
  • lol I always wonder who these people are who pay those kinds of prices as if they somehow don't realize that bone broth comes from...making broth...out of bones, can you believe it? But as a fellow carb lover, when I need a filling meal I usually go for potato or rice (at 200 calories you can get a respectable portion of…
  • The beans and rice are the only thing on that list I would bother to precook, but in general I have a five day rule.
  • I believe there have been studies showing that 'naturally' skinny people often over report or exaggerate the amount they eat, in the same way that people struggling with obesity will massively underestimate their own intake.
  • How is working out six days a week only lightly active?
  • A necro of only a year this time. Good job everyone we're slowly getting better!
  • Eating for breakfast right at this moment: Vegetarian tacos with last night's leftover roasted zucchini and yellow squash, with the addition of oaxaca cheese. Seasoned with garlic, chili powder, comino...no salt. :( But it really didn't matter once I topped it with the salsa! :)
  • How do these threads keep getting dug up? Seems like it's been happening a lot.
  • Well this thread has been pretty eye opening. I'm definitely not going to call my instances of careless overeating 'binges' anymore as going by some of the examples given in this thread the term really does seem to refer more to something psychological at work way beyond anything I've ever experienced.

  • Chicken thighs even skinless are higher in calories than chicken breast, but far more forgiving to being accidentally overcooked or reheated. As a bonus they are also CHEAP. (At HEB I get the family pack of ten thighs and cook them all at once for the next few days, they work out to 50 cents each...) Heat up the oven to…
  • Cutting way back on salt to be nicer to my liver led to me dropping 4 pounds in a week. I know it's just water weight but it still felt good. :D
  • Oh boy, HAAS. "Intentional weight loss is fatphobia!" "Thin people need to understand that They. Are. Triggering, and practicing fatphobia just by existing!" "Every where I go people glare at me, I hear whispering, random people in grocery stores snatch 'unhealthy' items out of my food cart, the cashier refused to ring up…
  • Much respect for this, but OMAD and vegetarian will not be easy. Heck, I do OMAD completely unintentionally at times depending on my work schedule, and just yesterday by the time I got home I was so hungry I downed an entire rotisserie chicken and two grilled zucchini right at the kitchen counter and was shocked when,…

  • I just grew up eating too much. The same portions as my older brother and sugary sodas at school and no one thought anything about it. I'm not blaming my parents, it was a pretty traditional family and my mom cooked awesome and nutritious food every day while my dad worked (stay at home moms were phasing out by then but…
  • I'm cutting way back on sodium lately so no Spam for me (I'll need to figure out what to do with last year's hurricane supply....) but I used to slice it thin, rinse the slices a bit then pat dry and fry in a pan. It's good just like that on rice, or you can dice it up and use it in eggs or on salads like ham. Sardines...I…
  • Why are you posting links to random products if not in response to the topic then? Maybe that's where the confusion came in. It would help if you explained what your intention was.
  • Can people really not see the difference in those photos? Wow.
  • I just never understood how a diet that made you cut out a ton of incredibly beneficial vegetables could be a good thing in the long run.

  • A single plain sausage biscuit I was in the habit of grabbing at a gas station before work was almost 500 calories. I could've had a full plate of bacon and eggs and toast instead.
  • Lol, I hadn't even noticed the dates.
  • It was such a great day when I discovered this because for some things, buying frozen is just sooo much simpler. Frozen veggies are usually quite a bit fresher, and the 'fresh' produce meanwhile sat in a warehouse a week or two and then spent days being transported.
  • Depends on the vegetable. I spent most of my life thinking I hated broccoli for instance, and it turns out it's a completely different experience made in a steamer basket, just cooked barely enough to be tender and with a little salt and a lot of lemon juice. I love my parents but the boiling things to brown mush and…
  • This is indeed the situation with so many people. I have relatives who think I'm some kind of supreme goddess of cooking because I know how to drizzle some olive oil and seasoning on assorted veggies and roast them in the oven. I've discovered chayote recently and it's so different from any squash I've used before. I'm…
  • There's some great ideas in here. I'm not Catholic but I have grandparents and aunts and uncles who are and so Lent has always been a part of my life as just something I do on my own. Even aside from the religious aspects it feels great to set aside a period of time like this for self improvement and self reflection. In…

  • I didn't think it was even legal to sell packaged food without at least an ingredients list...
  • Nothing wrong with rice and beans. Or carne guisada, that's simple to make and there's nothing actually 'bad' in it beyond a couple tablesppons of flour mixed into a giant pot. Ladle a scoop over rice and skip the tortilla.
