  • Hey, I have the same problem. I try to doing iced or warm tea, adding powdered EmergenC to it, (a vitamin supplement), I mix it with a little Gatorade, etc. Basically I try to drink the water but flavor it with something. I also like Pellegrino, it's a fizzy no calorie water like Perrier. (but better, has no sweeteners at…
  • Cupcakes, roasted chicken and Basmati rice, celery sticks, roasted organic pumpkin seeds, watermelon! OMG, cannot stop eating when in front of me...lots of weird little foods that I use for my MF daily logging...
  • I dissolve it in my coffee, (the chocolate powder) and it takes pretty good.
  • "I had an opportunity to meet one of the women involved in the 1972 Yale women's rowing team's brilliant Title 9 protest (recounted in the movie "A Hero for Daisy" - see it). She told us about going to the gym to weight train with one of her fellow female rowers, a very unusual thing to do at the time. Quite literally,…
  • Love this thread, feel a bit better about my last month. I'm up 4-5 lbs. No way could I not be after friends coming to town and we ate out at several chi chi places with awesome food and dessert. It was almost (was) worth every tasty bite! Back to discipline and home cooking. Happy new year--everyone.
  • There is no pro side to this. If you're sick, stay out of public places like gyms because you'll get OTHER people sick. End of discussion.
  • I use a wheelchair full time, so have little choice in the sedentary setting. Might want to watch the responses of easy 'don't be sedentary'. Each person here has their own situation and own set of issues...
  • What was the elevation of where you lived before? I assume in the Amazon it's almost 0, sea level. I ask this because one fall I stayed in New Mexico, (US) at about 6,000 feet for 6 weeks on a ranch. I lost like 10 lbs without trying at all. Totally unintended. I was from FL, about 100 feet elevation. I think back on this…
  • I'm finally able to trust the absorption of all the facts and habits and evidence of the last couple of years and have hopefully found a version of intuitive eating that is working for me. Your post is golden. Thank you so much.
  • Otherwise, these would be my generic tips: 1. If it's been less than 3 weeks or so, don't sweat it! Normal fluctuations happen and unfortunately sometimes we stall for a week or two even when we're doing everything right. 2. If you aren't already, be sure that you're logging everything. Sometimes people forget about things…
  • Thanks!!!! Most people have a maintenance range rather than an exact number as even in maintenance weight varies depending on conditions like TOM, water weight, new workout, etc. (My range is 100-105lbs thought I generally weigh 102-103). Cheers, h. [/quote]
  • Hey Chip--I use a chair and have/had about 40lbs to lose too. I am doing it all with calories in, calories out and slowly. I'm at 3 months right now, of doing MFP. Since it's hard to weigh ourselves in a wheelchair, (you know this) I'm going by my clothes and how I feel, to see if I'm doing OK. After 3 months I know I've…
  • Thanks very much, I just went in and fiddled with my goals and settings.
  • Hah! You are a hoot! Hey diet soda taste does suck at first so cut it with a squeezed lemon or lime. Coke Zero used to taste terrific but the Coke company went and screwed with the recipe and now it's too sugary for me but try several different types. Dr Pepper diet even. But try the lime stuff. It's gotten to where I…
  • Just get pepper spray anyway, I'm sure it's available online...I'd chose protection over being a dead victim...
  • This is the kind of post that keeps me looking on these forums for ideas and collaboration. THANK YOU! It's not *just* about the calories, the macros, the recipes, it's about our internal self-talk and actions based on those 'dialogues.' THAT is where I find the real juice of my weight loss/healthy life approach. You've…
  • Disability rights advocate here. ESAs, (emotional support animals) are not covered under ADA, only Fair Housing Laws. Service animals and guide animals like dogs can be trained to the tune of $30K-$50K and higher in terms of staff/training time to assist all kinds of folks with disabilities such as blind folks, mobility…
  • what is your height?
  • You can do it all with calories in and out. I use a wheelchair and have been losing only with a 1200 cal limit per day. At some point I will start using hand weights to strengthen and tone arms but will do from a seated position. I know another person here on MFP who lost about 100 lbs only with diet. You can do this!!
  • was 100 and dry sunny heat here today and there wasn't enough water, tea and ice in the world for me! Not sure where you live, but this is the time of year I try to flood liquids...
  • Lowfat turkey loaf, steamed, mixed veggies, cherry tomatoes, small leftover of sweet potato.
  • I'm on 1200 cals--in a wheelchair. I'm losing weight after 50 days. Typical foods all day, different days are 1 egg yolk and 3 egg whites sauteed, slice(s) of Tillamook cheese, fruits, coffee with Isolate whey protein, water, water, water, lean protein like baked chicken w/ garlic and spices, veggies, veggies, veggies…
  • Good advice above here. My first thought was start measuring something other than carbs, too. I'm in a wheelchair, can't exercise much obviously. Doing it all with 1200 calories a day. 53 days, and I'm losing. You can too for sure.
  • Incredible dedication of a year!!!
  • Forgot to add, I always cook more chicken than for one meal so leftovers are in fridge to add to salads, sandwiches, etc.
  • I don't eat chicken daily, but frequently. I also do eggs, protein powder and whey. But when I cook it, I always start from fresh chicken, not processed. I bake it often with spices, garlic and some olive oil. Sometimes in skillet on stovetop, saute, lemon, spices. I find if I choose it raw I know where it's coming from…
  • Wow! I use a manual chair and have begun this recently, doing what you did, CICO only as exercise is hard with the chair. I love what you've written, you're a great writer! Did the loss impact the size of chair you use? I'm hoping to just fit better into mine, not really shift to a smaller chair. But you lost so much. I'm…
  • No matter what daily cal goal you have, some ideas I have found here and elsewhere to help with the 'feeling full' thing: Drink lots of fluids, eat a lot of fiberous foods like veggies. They are low cal and fill you up and as long as you don't slather tons of butter and stuff on them, you can't go wrong on calories with…
  • Run, don't walk to an endocrinologist and get a COMPLETE blood work up on your thyroid and pituitary gland's functions. Start with this as a medical condition, not a weight loss issue. Don't even focus on calories to solve this, you need to see a good endo and after that, and possible medication to regulate your thyroid,…
  • I wanted to comment on something others haven't as they have given such good suggestions. Folks I know who have gone for their PhD have described VERY up and down and wild schedules and emotional rides. Very hard work, and the stress. If you feel this could be true for you, I'd factor that into your approach to your next…
