I love swimming. But watch your form for shoulder safety - lots of good YouTube videos on proper form. There is research that shows you eat more calories after swimming than other workouts, but only in cold water. (Exercising in cold air also makes us intuitively eat more calories.)

Diet face is better than puffy eyes/hidden cheekbones! (At my heaviest, I always looked like I'd been crying, my eyes were so puffy.) The skin may tighten up a bit over time. If not, I'll go see my daughter's plastics/reconstructive guy. They can do amazing things these days.

It's not "positive" or "negative." It's honest. As in, here's the outfit & what it will look like on a person who actually is a size 2+.

Sometimes I do - if I feel like having a glass of wine or something.

If it's fat, creating a calorie deficit and work your core - a strong core holds the guts in like a girdle. But if it's fluid accumulation from a disease process, check with your doctor. You may be able to reduce it somewhat with a proper diet and medications.

Of course a fitness trainer is going to speak to health and fitness. The more interesting question is why the interviewer focused on a very large woman as opposed to a female figure whose body displays too low body fat to be healthy. As a culture we celebrate the physiques of models, ballet dancers, gymnasts, and…

High fiber foods. Beans, in particular, curb sugar cravings and reduce appetite in general.

I'm a big fan of Drs Greger & Fuhrman (How Not to Diet & Eat to Live). Plant based whole foods with limited grains, starches & nuts. Animal products are greatly reduced or eliminated completely, your choice. Oil, sugar, & flour, even whole wheat, are considered processed, along with all the usual foods we consider…

Why not take your lean mass and add 21 - 25%? A healthy woman aged 21 - 40 should have a fat mass of at least 21%, so...

It's totally normal for weight to fluctuate by up to several pounds daily. When I was younger, I would typically retain 6 pounds of water with my monthlies. Lycra and yoga pants hadn't been invented yet, so it really sucked, lol! Try weighing yourself every morning and evening to see trends. A note on all the folks saying…

CI/CO is true in a lab, lol! But not in a living human. Too many variables in play. Dr Greger lists factors other than straight CI/CO influencing weight loss (or gain) known to research in "How Not to Diet." He truly separates the hype from the facts ad only using peer reviewed double blind studies.

Hope the weekend finds everyone well. I am day 4 of zero cola & really feeling it :open_mouth: Especially in my head. Lots of sinus drainage. Maybe it's the flu, but every time I've cut out cola & junk food, I go through this. So, I'm sticking with blaming the symptoms on a healing crisis & no, this time I will NOT test it…

Feeling hungry - either my stomach not feeling satiated (too little volume) or feeling "false hunger" as described by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.

Totally agree that fad diets make things complicated. Most are not sustainable. And some are actually dangerous. But I'd argue that nutrient dense plant based isn't a fad, nor is IF. These, like veganism, are long term lifestyle choices.

Ok, folks, in 2020 I'm gonna double down & go a year without cola or fast food. I have the "book knowledge" on why to do it, I just need to actually do it! And I really did lose weight & feel better when I followed Dr F's plan in the past. So it's time to get out of my own way & just do it.
-
@AustinRuadhain those all look like good suggestions. I need something I can pack in my thermos that will stay hot until breakfast. And I was thinking fruit/sweet, but those pinto beans look very delicious!
-
1) Go a year without Coca Cola or McDonald's. 2) Lose a pound a week for a total of 52 pounds. If I lose more, that's OK.

Obesity is "normal" in our present society due to the very large number of people who present as obese. However, there needs to be a happy medium between glamorizing and calling it a moral failure, unattractive, gross, etc. Yet, I have so much freedom at the gym as a 240# woman - no unwanted attention or stares - I…

This is a case of know your spouse. A husband who has expressed displeasure at his wife's physique gifting his wife exercise equipment is totally different than a husband gifting his wife exercise equipment because she wants it. And then there's the husband who gifts the $2,000 bike because it's something he wants, lol.

Anybody have a good bean-based breakfast porridge for the instant pot?
-
lol, send him my way ;)

I brought a mung bean brown rice porridge to work last night in a thermos. First time I've done it. It was perfect eating temperature this morning. Yay!

Thanks, all, for the warm welcome. @magic71755 - wow, no lunch break? Well, keep up your salad eating anyway. (Maybe that will prompt them to get you time out of the public view to eat!!) We're supposed to get snow for the next 3 days, so I ran to the store for veggies. It was already getting slick out there! And I'm…

Hi, all. Although I have read just about every Dr F book & also love veggies & beans, I am a creature of habit. But that needs to change if I want to live another 50 years! So, here I am. I'm new to Myfitnesspal & I'm happy to have found this group.

My goals are: 1) to reverse pre diabetes through a nutritional approach; 2) exercise 30 minutes/day 6 days/week; 3) lose 52 pounds - that's a pound a week for the year

I just log by "deck of cards = 3 ounces" & then also log how many teaspoons or tablespoons of oil, sauce, etc. I figure are in the serving & call it good.

Totally normal. Water retention caused by fluctuating hormones.

A French study showed that, contrary to popular belief, going braless reduces sag. Supporting the breasts artificially causes the supporting structures to atrophy, which, when you think of it, is true of other body tissue as well. I personally prefer to be braless. It's much more comfortable for the rib cage, neck, and…
