  • I don't log coffee, tea, spices, herbs or vitamin gummies (yeah, there's some calories there) or the electrolyte supplements I use when hiking. That's where my laziness begins. I try to log everything else even if it isn't pretty.
  • @LockdownLoser23 AnnPT77 was just describing her experience from a senior perspective. Who else's story can she tell?
  • I do feel "ugh, eggs again".
  • Years ago I lost weight and kept it off using weight watchers. Back then you were supposed to eat a set number of servings of protein, of bread, of fat, of fruits and vegetables, and dairy. You had some free points and you could earn activity points. It led me to a very well balanced diet. Then they changed it so you could…
  • I live in the middle of nowhere but there are upsides My landlord lets me shop in her garden - tomatoes, kale, beets, squash, eggplant, pumpkin. I buy honey from her hives made from bees in my backyard. And there is a Mennonite farmers market about 2 miles away. I'm not used to seeing produce in plastic packages.
  • Pumpkin. Not out of a can or the jack-o-lantern kind but roasted pumpkin.
  • I've gained 5 pounds but it feels like 20
  • I got off FB about two years ago. Other than the pictures of my friends and family the rest was mostly rumors and out-right falsehoods. I haven't missed it. I was a member of some groups that communicated exclusively on FB but it's still not worth going back on. How about an update @ultraastra ?
  • Ever hear of Tellico Plains?
  • @Jthanmyfitnesspal I bought my son a Gary Fisher bike back in the 90's - it was so extravagant but since his brother got a new trombone that's how it goes. Are any of the trainers any good? I had one and hated it. It was noisy and wore out the rear tire on my Greg Lemond road bike that is now 20 years old. I'm a big fan of…
  • Jello
  • I'm 66 and have a backpacking trip scheduled in 2 months. I realize the extra weight I carry is equivalent to carrying a loaded pack! I can't lose 20 pounds in 8 weeks but I'd be happy with 5. I walk 5-7 days a week and have become of fan Jessica Smith's 6 Week Plan DVD. It has really helped my range of motion and upper…
  • I pop regular popcorn in the microwave using a pyrex bowl with a plate on top. I have to be careful because it gets really hot. Commercial microwave popcorn has a weird, chemical taste to me
  • When I was fit I thought my muscular legs were my best feature.
  • I'm short (5'3") with wide shoulders and not much in the way of hips but it never occurred to me that I was not feminine When I was doing triathlons I weighed 128 When I weighed 114 I looked terrible. Someone said I looked like "a hank of hair and a bone" . I once bought a suit and the skirt was a size 6 and the jacket a…
  • I'm 5"3" and weigh 155. 130 is a good weight for me. 2 years ago I weighed 175 and lost 25 but 5 have crept back. As everyone who has lost any weight knows, even losing a few pounds makes you feel sooooo much better.
  • Typically cross country hiking is when you are traveling in an area without trails whereas hiking tends to follow groomed or defined trails that are marked and defined. Hope this helps. Around here we would call that bushwhacking.
  • Check out Jessica Smith's 6 Week Total Transformation. She uses handweights, lots of reps and is easy to modify. I can now put my kayak on the top of my car by myself.
  • Even on the nights you don't don't cook, see if you can make sure there is salad or other vegetables you can load up on. My goal is to log EVERYTHING I eat Good, bad, and ugly Then start eliminating the food that I can do without. I really dislike logging everything but for me I know it is the only way. I can "just cut…
  • I'm going backpacking in September. Every once I lose will make it so much easier.
  • I gained 60 pounds 18 years ago when I started taking antidepressants At that time I was told the meds do not cause weight gain. Ha! Even though I have been off the meds for over 10 years my weight has bounced around and I'm still struggling. One of the many problems is that it's hard to be mentally well when your…
  • When my son was a baby he would put his little hand over my mouth to get me to stop singing. In his defense I really can't sing. After decades of practice I can sing Happy Birthday and you MIGHT recognize it. He grew up and got a degree in music. But even then he just knew..... (Once again, no hurt feelings)
  • My son's second grade teacher was wonderful. It was part of Mother's Day project. There were no hurt feelings. When his brother was about the same age he made me a mother's day card that said he loved me because I was pathetic. Maybe he meant empathetic? I still laugh until I cry because I knew he he had no idea what the…
  • Years ago when my son was in second grade part of a school assignment was to write down how much your mother weighed (along with height, favorite color, favorite food, etc) He wrote that I weighed 425 pounds! I was mortified, I weighed around 150 Then I asked him how much he thought his very petite teacher weighed. He said…
  • I encountered a bear and her cub while hiking alone in the Smokies. The bears wouldn't leave the trail so I headed back up the mountain. I didn't see anyone for hours when I met a man and his daughter so I headed back down the trail with them (By then the bears had moved on). At the end of the day we hiked out in the dark…
  • I'm a fan of Jessica Smith. Check her out on youtube. She seems to have something for everyone.
  • Is there an app for this that will tell me when to speed up or slow down?
  • Another reading recommendation is "Grandma Gatewood's Walk" Never mind that Bill Bryson disses Gatewood and the movie was terrible I still enjoyed "A Walk in the Woods". The part where they get to Gatlinburg is priceless.
  • Also if you drink a lot and sweat a lot make sure you have electrolytes. I don't advise putting anything but water in a hydration pack but I always carry electrolyte gummies.
  • Make sure the pack fits your torso. They come in different lengths. Your pack and hydration bladder can be different brands. Bladder or bottle is a personal choice. I use a counter top paper towel holder to dry my camelback. Make sure that your boots/shoes are laced properly but I heard of a woman who thru hiked the AT in…
