I don't get in the forums much and I see you've been given lots of answers even though I didn't read them. I'm a civilian stationed at a USMC Air Station and I use the pool which means I have to take my shirt off to swim meaning I was fat and man boobs and all. First of all.........no one cares. I'm just getting my work…

Old enough to be your dad, but as a red, white, and blue American male, and stated in the most respectful manner possible .......... you have nice legs. Good work and good job on your success and newly found confidence.

Forgetting your journey for a moment here but that was also an amazingly well written story. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you should write an entire book about this.

I have security cams in my spare rooms. I used to go in and then see the pics later and think "UGGGG" now I see my pics and think "Man you're doing good".

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Don't know you but I'm proud of you!

I eat into some of my exercise calories. I'm supposed to get 1970 per day (without exercise) and I generally eat 2400 or so. I work out every day. Most days are 30 minute runs or 1 1/2 hour bike rides. I walk the dog a couple of miles a day as well. I feel like 2400 calories or so is plenty based on what I'm doing.

I just started riding again. Trek FX2 with Little Big Ben tires and tricked out with lots of extras. I've been going through a fitness watch shakedown and playing with Strava and Garmin Connect and Rubitrack. I like RubiTrack because it is YOURS. Software resident on your computer. That being said it gets its files by…

Amazing transformation! Kudos!

First of all that didn't look like a horrible situation at all. My first thought after looking at the picture was what gallcinvasion said. Call it 1000 and move on. That is probably an overestimate. But not a huge overestimate. Gonna guess that before you became more self aware that that plate might have been a lot bigger…

And now today is your tomorrow. You've overcome the first hurdle which is to decide what you want and make a step in this direction. Counting calories WORKS. I once lost about 100 lbs. and caught myself when I put 40 of it back which is where I am now. Managed to shed 12 of that since starting this up. (if my stats don't…

Cool post with lots of great information. Thanks. Your post kind of illustrates different approaches to what we're all doing here. I'm 57 and trying to lose weight and not have a heart attack. You seem to be in some kind of training regime and out there hammering it out. I'm typically only interested in time, distance, a…

Being the obsessive guy that I am I have an Edge 705 bicycle computer and I can use it to look down and do speed and distance and overall time. Then I can take the occasional peek at my heart rate. I just want to see it around the 150 bpm range and in the 160's if I'm cranking. Almost all of the men in my family have had…

Not Fitbit for me, but it isn't syncing with either my Garmin Connect or Strava. Obviously an MFP issue.

I do a few things. I exercise first thing in the morning. Either run, bike, or elliptical. I have an elliptical in front of the big screen TV and if you find a wicked action movie you'll barely realize you are working out. After that I have a smart watch that nags me to get up. And I walk the dog about 3 times a day around…

I hear ya! I recently re-started and cleaned up my diet. Just getting all the junk out of my system helped with aches and pains. I think we reach a point where we become sick of being sick.

I lost 100 lbs once the old fashioned way. I have a co-worker who got the surgery and while he lost a lot of weight he did it by eating a minuscule amount of food every day. Also his choices that I saw were poor. He was eating lots of junk food and he threw up quite a bit especially during meals. He's a lot younger than me…

The fact that you are here and trying to figure it out means you already took the first step. Try this. Set a goal of losing 3 pounds. When you do it give yourself a tiny reward and not necessarily a food reward. Just do something nice for yourself. You might feel deprived for a day or three but after a few days of…

Just my 2 cents. I started riding again recently after years away from it and dug my old Garmin Edge 705 out of the closet and while it may be old the GPS satellites haven't changed nor has my heart. Same old heart. It does a great job of mapping as well and you can use Open maps with it. Pick up an older Garmin. If you…

I've just started again and am shaking down fitness watches. My advice leans towards.........."it kind of depends on what you do". I tend to agree with most here. Garmin products are superior and I have a Garmin bike computer and two Garmin hiking computers. No watches (yet). They lack one critical element though and the…
