  • I will advocate for a class of Pilates thrown into the mix on rest days/cross training days. I used to do yoga but I wasn’t flexible enough/didn’t have focused enough instructors so i switched to Pilates - especially reformer/tower because it forces more focus on form and generally has smaller classes. Depending on your…
  • Theoretically yes, but you would probably eventually develop nutritional imbalances that might be problematic. Moreover, despite the sugar industry fighting it, high sugar consumption —particularly from highly processed foods - - is linked with poor health outcomes including possibly increased cancer risk and dental…
  • Hi all i have been reading and appreciating everyone’s experiences, but not having much to add to the conversation. I really appreciated everyone’s kind thoughts and words when my father died. I can’t believe it has already been 6 weeks. About 2 weeks after my father passed I had to put my aunt, whose care I’ve been…
  • I am mostly doing the same thing that I did to lose, except at a very, very slightly higher calorie level (maybe 200 extra calories a day). So I am continuing to track my food and continuing to eat pretty much the same way I was eating. I have upped my exercise a bit because I lost more muscle than I intended to (I lost…
  • Accept that thoughts will happen, acknowledge them when they do, and dismiss them. This is what one aims to do with all thoughts when meditating. If you try not to think about something it is impossible to do so. You probably have no reason or inclination to think about a giraffe right now, but if I tell you that whatever…
  • I log my trx workouts as pilates reformer workouts they aren’t quite the same but i do both and they are both primarily body weight resistance based exercises. I don’t eat back my calories and log just to keep track of regular, planned exercise minutes so being super exact on how much I burn doesn’t matter that much to me.

  • Youtube is a great source for all sorts of videos. I use it for yoga, pilates, dance videos, tai chi reminders, and general fitness training. You can also find all sorts of exercise oriented playlists and podcasts to keep you motivated if you just want to get outside and do stuff like run/walk training. Look at a couch to…
  • Here is a pilates instructor I like on youtube doing a routine with exeercise bands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK3-61gbGsA&list=PLA7TaqovJRfTFLlSYnD4YKJRFhzOuW9Ny&index=4
  • Pilates routines (mat work specifically) and if you were to invest in TRX straps that can be hung from the back of a door or a large exercise ball you could do a lot of routines that have benefits similar to those done using equipment, Check out youtube videos from people like this instructor…
  • Spa days or just individual spa services can be great ways to feel better about my body/celebrate physical accomplishments that also make me look better. This can contribute to a better sense of well being, even if you aren’t feeling great for some reason. Having a good haircut, clean and nicely polished nails (I keep mine…
  • Congratulations on the progress you are making and the exercise you are getting in. How carefully are you tracking your food intake? Your summary suggests that you might be weighing some stuff but not everything- I suspect you might be underestimating calories you are taking in if you are just guessing at amounts and…
  • @globalhiker Thanks so much for your kindness. I am trying to find the proverbial silver lining. I am not feeling very strong or admirable at all. I have equally learned that grief can make you as stupid as alcohol does, and that i can sit staring blankly at my computer for hours when I think I am doing something…
  • Hi. I’ve been gone from MFP entirely for the past several weeks because my beloved father became very ill - uncontrollable pain and confusion - and was admitted to the hospital, then to hospice and then died over the course of just a few weeks. I suppose if I had still been drinking even a little bit I would have been…
  • I would caution to be careful how you define “eat normally” on alternate days. There is a risk of falling into a binge restrict pattern where you actually end up consuming more calories than if you were to eat at a constant recommended modest deficit. Ie you are starving after a day of only 500 calories so consume…
  • I am a plus one for the advice to get back to a normal routine at home ASAP. I’d also keep to a normal-ish routine on board personally, since buffets and all you can eat/drink just doesn’t appeal to me, but that is why I don’t cruise! I gather there are more options now on ships where you can go to specialty restaurants…
  • Fasting might work, or it might not - but It sounds like you are also struggling with emotional issues around eating and fasting in and of itself won’t cure those. It is good that you are aware that you are an emotional eater, but you are beating yourself up - the “being such a pig” comment stands out- and that likely…
  • I agree with all of the above votes for doing a run /walk program. That is how I started when I trained for a marathon. I was an accomplished mountain hiker (at altitudes - so no breathing issues) but totally terrible at running. Most couch to 5K to marathon programs start you that way anyway. The other part that was…
  • Thanks for having the honesty to report back. I am not asking/stating this critically but this is a text based forum so it might come out sounding that way. I am trying to thank you for sharing your experience and make sure that I understand it. You reported your starting stats as 204.2 lbs with a goal to rapidly lose…
  • @yirara laughing …i now understand how weight lifters propel those huge weights upward… To OP, you may be much bigger/stronger/more muscular/taller than I am but that is like at least 3x or 4x the protein that MFP recommends for me. I am 5’8” and trying to increase protein intake too
  • Greetings from NYC! I am here on a work trip earlier in the week and then stayed on to see some friends from when I used to live here. My husband is home taking care of the kitties — one of whom needs to take a new medicine (she doesn’t like it and it involves a lot of trickery to get her to take it). I’ve been totally AF…
  • Just have to comment to @GaryM_25 and @itladyee WOW!! Those are beautiful cheesecakes! You two could be bakers! They look so professional and sound delicious. I made a slightly untraditional Easter supper for my family - lobster pot pie and spanakopita (spinach, chard, kale with feta and lemon zest) pie, plus roasted…
  • I love Sisslynn’s approach - that way when your family is really obnoxious you are also racking up steps for the day ! On a serious note, I just didn’t say anything about what I was doing and if someone noticed on their own I took Sisslynn’s approach more or less. People actually did not notice until I had lost enough…
  • Add me as a +1 on the meal replacement shakes don’t work, though I have been using protein shakes to try to GAIN weight recently and it is helping with getting in more protein, but even then doesn’t make me feel as full as if I ate a steak for the same calories for instance. Ann’s fruit suggestion is a good one - I often…
  • Congratulations! The tips you use to control your sweets cravings are also what I did to stop drinking. Plan ahead, replace with something different but non alcoholic in a nice glass and do it day by day … so maybe not so different after all.
  • I am in maintenance and adding to my workouts now to rebuild lost muscle and likely thereby also add some pounds back on, but ones I am OK with. I am almost afraid to say that everything is in a very good groove. My eating has been sustainable throughout and now that I am adding in more workouts I am feeling really…
  • I use the crackers at breakfast mostly for fullness and just to nibble on something with tea. I usually also eat a whole apple and have greek yogurt a few hours later. It might be all in my head but I think the mix of different types of fiber does something to keep me feeling fuller and more regular without giving me that…
  • Drinking alcohol and eating crap food late at night can sometimes go together - you have a few beers and don’t really pay attention to what you eat because you don’t care/loosen your inhibitions. Alcohol can also contribute to high cholesterol numbers. If you only want to lose a few kg and be a bit more mindful of your…
  • @joans1976 congratulations on being NED!! I don’t think there is any better news possible! On the chemically induced menopause issue - that happened to me too when I started chemo though so it might have been different because I couldn’t separate chemo effects from menopause effects. The main bad symptoms for me were…
  • @carlamarica7699 you’ve uncovered a thread from 2015 so I am writing to make sure you get some words of encouragement back. I hope you feel strong and motivated now that you are out of the abusive relationship you are in and can take back some power for yourself and your health. Be good to yourself and your body. You’ve…
  • @horror_mama you’ve picked up on an old thread from 2019 so it is possible that these folks have moved on and you won’t hear back from them, but just writing to say welcome and I hope you find the support you are looking for here. It is great your family thinks you are perfect the way you are but also helpful to have…
