I love this recipe.... you really need a mandoline to slice the cabbage super thin. It tastes fresh and light, and my family likes it too. http://natashaskitchen.com/2016/05/10/cabbage-and-pea-salad/

I live in Michigan, and it's pretty much dark by 5:15 now, but the days are still getting shorter! I totally understand you. It's not quite as cold here as it is there, but I just bundle up. Get a baklava and some good gloves at a running store. As long as it isn't too far below zero with the wind chill, I still walk…

We're going to need a bigger boat.

Great job!

To help heal the parts already chaffed, I use A&D ointment. You can find that in the baby section. Its mostly for diaper rash, but I have used plenty to help heal various chaffed parts!

I run early morning too..... years ago, I used to try to get up a little earlier and eat before I would run, but found I would much rather have a little more sleep than get up 30 minutes earlier just to eat for "fuel" for my run. It turns out that I can run just fine without these little meals, as long as I am not running…

Jeff Galloway addresses this in his books. He talks about the left side of your brain giving you logical reasons why you should quit or turn around, then give "tricks" to engage the right side of your brain to turn off those messages. There were various things he suggests.... mantras, distractions, etc. And its a good idea…

I was up at 4:30 this morning to get my run in too..... and my three kids were also sleeping! I have been running a few years, and its been a good hobby. I am far from a pro, but its getting warm and I am getting serious with it again. If you want to add me, send me an invite. Good luck with that 5K! They are a blast, and…

Overcast, cool with some rain. It's 36 out now, but supposed to get into the low 60s later this week!

Thank you guys! I didn't realize you could have your HR tested to see what the max is. I know that general formula people use, but never have had anything tested. I sure don't want to drop dead on a trail somewhere in the name of being healthy! Thanks!

My favorite response! At least when prepping a kitten to eat, they die quickly.... with all the broken bones and such, as I have just read. Veal just die of sadness.

Feel free to add me. I love the support on MFP.

That was great! I liked "If you bite it, you write it."

No matter what adjustments you make, just keep working at it. I can totally understand your frustration with having improved your diet and wanting to see some results. I think its more important to enjoy the process of it. This is what keeps me going through the times where my progress seems to slow (or stop!). Also, have…

How about trying to separate yourself from the food as much as possible? Go through your house and clean out the junk, get some healthy snacks to have close by for when the urge to snack hits. Schedule in some walks, which will help by burning off some of the fat, plus keeps you away from reaching for something bad to eat!…

My knees crunch too, which sort of creeps me out. My doctor told me that as long as its not hurting, then just be a little careful. If its starts to hurt, then I need to get concerned. He recommend that I strengthen the muscles around my knees to help protect them. Running has been helpful for me. My knees never bend to…

One general rule of thumb is to increase by no more than 10%. Make one of your runs of the week your "long" run. Go slower this run. You should never be too out of breath. Its about getting the miles on your legs, not so much about cardio. (You still get cardio benefits) Runners World web site has a "Smart Coach" that is…

That is great!

Wow! Taking two minutes off your pace is incredible!!!!! Nice job. You should be super proud of that!

I have that same story. I just came back to MFP, and am trying again. This time using the friends on the community. Add me if you like!

The best I have found for tracking calories is MFP! They have the best database of foods. If you have a smart phone to scan things in, and keep up during the day, that is ideal. I also have a fitbit. It is the best step tracker that I have used. Right up until I washed it in a pair of jeans! You can have your fitbit link…

Thank you! That sounds like it. Getting out of the car is always a challenge when it is bothering me. Good luck with your upcoming half.

I just finished putting this together. Its in my fridge waiting to hit the oven later tonight. It looks and smells as good as it sounded. I can't wait for dinner tonight!

I am making this tonight for dinner! It sounds so good.

I can do that too. Especially when I am hanging out around the house. I tend to gravitate to the fridge, and have a bite or two of something. Or tell myself its ok to reward myself with something because I was good in the week. How I plan to combat this is to pre-enter my meals for the day on my tracker. Then I can tell…

I don't really know the answer for sure, as I do the same thing! I am just going to keep trying. I think one helpful thing is to realize that thousands of people actually do achieve long term results. We so often hear (and experience) failure that we (or I) never really expect to have long term success, at least not deep…
