I am struggling to stay on track and thought the prospect of incorporating a planned "cheat day" might help me. Unfortunately, you reminded me of my own unhealthy attitudes toward food. Refined sugars and flour only leave me craving more. Cheat days might work for some people, but I think I'm better off not to indulge.

Hi everyone. I just joined this group today. I've been an on-and-off MFP user for several years. I've lost my motivation. Trying to connect with others in the same boat. I really don't like to exercise, but will do so begrudgingly. My hubby and I did The Whole 30 last year - which worked, but the thought of starting such a…

Welcome. Like you, I am a former OA member; out of program for 7 years or so. I've gained and lost the same 30 pounds about 4 times. MFP really helped me stay focused the last time, especially with my journaling. When I started to wain, I stopped logging, and down that slippery slope I went. I'm back to lose the 15 lbs. or…

I am a compulsive overeater. I have done the following things to end that vicious cycle: 1) Only eat at specific times. 2) Avoid white flour and white sugar. 3) Avoid eating trigger foods and trigger time periods. Hope that helps.

My prayers are with you. You are not alone. My mother-in-law's death derailed my entire family. The only thing that helped me was to see a counselor to work through my grief. I thought time alone would heal my wounds. Unfortunately, I just kept avoiding the pain instead of dealing with it. I wish I had seen the counselor…

I hate winter. The moment the blues skies yielded to grey and the temperatures dropped below 40, I immediately sensed a mood change. I started getting depressed and craving sweets. Couple that with an ailing Dad and teenager problems and you've got ZERO MOTIVATION. I haven't even bothered to log my food the last couple of…

We are of similar age and height. I feel your frustration. I also have been following a 1200 calorie diet and exercising about 4 times per week for about 40 minutes. I have had long plateaus, 2 lbs. up, etc. First I saw lost inches; then the pounds started coming off. I could have a stellar day, drink tons of water and…

My hubbie just bought me an ipod nano for my birthday. It is small and Belkin makes a rubber wrist watch strap that it clips on to. It also has a pedometer and radio setting. I love it!

Thanks Everyone. Right now I'm substituting spaghetti squash for the real thing. Just looking for other options.

Everyone is different, I know, but my body responds to carbs the same way. It seems when I eat white bread/rice/pasta and baked goods, it leaves me craving more. I tend to overeat those foods. I'm better off not even taking the first bite.

I limit carbs and find it helps curb hunger, but don't eliminate them completely, I stay away from the "white stuff" (white flour, white sugar) in favor of whole grains. I use agave nectar as a sweetener.

Just realize that it is he who has the problem, not you. I pity people who are filled with such negativity (hatred, anger). How pathetic his life must be to spew on a total stranger like that.

I have a similar situation. At first, my husband would keep suggesting dining out or opening a bottle of wine intending to share with me. I just explained that I can't eat certain things or eat at certain places. When I do go out, I make sure I bank enough exercise credits to offset the meal. Eventually, he "got it." I…

I forgot another one 11. I'll eat what I want today, but tomorrow I'll be good.

I donated leftover treats to the local senior living center. I figured if the residents couldn't eat them, the staff might enjoy it.

I love Mt. Olive Sugar Free Sweet Baby Gherkins. They are not "low sodium," but are lower in salt

My daughter is the same way. I thought she'd grow out of it, but she is now 16 and still just as picky. I wish I had pushed the veggies back then. Things I can get my daughter to eat are apples, grapes, corn, baby spinach (raw) and snow peas (raw). There is a book called "The Sneaky Chef" that tells you how to hide…

I didn't at first, but now I do most days. The weight comes off more quickly and you lose inches faster with exercise. Plus, you can eat more calories.

I actually created a meal title called "alcohol." i like wine and have a glass or two a few days a week. The calories add up quick though; big incentive not to imbibe.

The benefits of healthy eating do not end with a final calorie count. Foods high in fat and sugar are not good for anyone; overweight or not. I try to cook heart healthy meals (high fiber, low fat, low sugar, low calorie). The normo-weight/underweight family members can eat larger portions or supplement with higher calorie…

 It's a big club! I can tell you from personal experience that the aches, pains, and fatigue have significantly decreased since exercising, eating right, and losing weight.
