  • I know this isn't exactly what you asked... But I started using my laptop & youtube to increase variety free. Some channels are better than others- it can take a few busts before you find a gem you love. Some recommendations: Yoga with Adrienne is fantastic for beginners and intermediates who enjoy additional guidance.…
  • congrats on the weight loss! I am a big yoga practitioner too, I have a long term goal of getting my yoga teachers certificate. Currently my goal is to increase my daily yoga two fold. If you need some instruction youtube is a great resource. "Yoga with Adrienne" is good for beginners and intermediates who like additional…
  • You would have to drink gallons daily. There are very specific compounds that you would need to consume to receive any effect on visceral fat. Green tea supplements are unregulated and the claims are unsupported. I woudn't waste my money on anything seen on the Oz show. Don't think tea is a waste though. A hot drink with…
  • There is no unbiased clinical data that supports acai as a weight loss aid. It has antioxidants and other vitamins. Drink if you enjoy it, but like others have said it is not going to give you results unless you are cutting calories too.
in Acai…? Comment by Kanuenue March 2015
  • TVP = textured vegetable protein.
  • TVP is a type of soy protein that looks a lot like bulgur wheat. You can get it in many grocery stores in the dry section or natural foods section. It is high protein, vegan and is great as a substitute for ground beef in things like lentil chili (high protein vegan meal right there). It is often used in packaged vegan…
  • I love the bulk section in my standard grocery store. By bagging your own dried goods (pasta, dried fruits, grains, beans, spices, etc.) you save dollars on the pound. Just avoiding the fancy name brand packaging can save you a bunch of money just by changing which aisles you shop in.
  • There are two main diet styles within raw vegan. Gourmet raw (this is high fat, can be low-moderate carb) or the LFHC (low fat high carb/801010) camp. Some people follow one strictly over the other. I focus on high carb because it makes me feel best and is easy. I love fruit, salads, smoothies, and don't bother with…
  • It should have read: 80% Carbs / 10% Protein / 10 % fat. Carbs should come mostly from fruit if following a Dr. Graham (one of the authors of 80/10/10) style program. Although, those ratios are used by a lot of High Carb-ers, regardless if they are raw vegan or not.
  • Nutella. Ugh. There is nothing nutritious about it despite their adds. I will take Peanut Butter & Co "Dark Chocolate Dreams" any day over that junk.
  • Whole carbohydrates (fruits, rice, etc) are excellent for boosting mood. Carbohydrates naturally boost serotonin and dopamine production. I avoid carbs without fiber (processed) because of their lack of nutrition.
  • Fruit! You can have multiple servings of some fruits for 100 cals. Healthy, sweet, and will probably make you less hungry than a 100 cal pack of crispy air.
  • Chemicals are not the issues. Atoms and molecules are everywhere and make up everything. My issues is when someone creates a chemical monstrosity of processed leftovers from other industrial products and tries to pass it off as food. But wait! It has fruit juice coloring in it, so they can still say "contains fruit". Screw…
  • I don't see any beer. Pint glasses are not exclusively used for carbonated alcohol drinks. Second pic has water in it.
  • Yeah, I really don't understand why these are so popular. They don't taste that great or special, they taste like a flavored protein bar. Back to the article... I see the blogs point, would be better if there were scientific sources to some of the casual claims. Which is a pet peeve of mine.
  • Without further pertinent details, I will only be able to point you in the right direction. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/975025-in-place-of-a-road-map-short-n-sweet
  • Fruit salad in it's purest form (just fruit) is healthy for you and delicious. Fruit salad can be great for dieters because it is often low calorie with fiber to keep you satisfied. But I would avoid canned, in syrup, sugared, or fruit salads with whipped topping which has added, nutrient-poor calories.
  • Love this, thank you!
  • Yes! Yes! You are young, you should be eating more calories. Even with next to no activity, 16-1700 will still allow safe weight loss. No. Not healthy. Are you missing a 1 at the beginning of those numbers? That's dangerous for the heart. Seriously, not a good idea.
  • I try to vary my protein sources especially with a plant based diet. I have tried a lot of powders, mainly unflavored, out there. I am not familiar with this brand specifically but as far as your question goes... If they flavor it, it will taste pretty much like that. Vanilla intensity. As for my experience:…
  • In for answers. I have been wondering this myself. Would love to be able to figure out the calculations because I know it is higher in cal than the store brand stuff.
  • Reduced fat cheese and unsweetened yogurts are excellent for getting protein and fats in. A small cheese plate at the end of the day would help bring your ratios up to where they need to be for 40/30/30. Avocado and nuts are good for adding good fats with lean proteins. Also, soy meats are often lower in fat than their…
  • 5'5" 118lbs 2200 cals a day average (I range between 1900 on a rest day and 2400 on work out days)
  • A raw food diet is not dangerous. A 1200 calorie diet plus overexercising is dangerous tho. But there is nothing inherently dangerous about raw food, especially if you plan your meals- which is recommended for any diet ("diet" as the biological term to describe a food plan, not a weight loss plan necessarily) to ensure a…
  • Hey! I am Raw Till 4 and I love it. Raw vegan is wonderful and I am glad you have already done research. That's the key to lifestyle changes. I love MFP for the app and the community but... Hate to say this but as far as making sure you meet your nutrient goals, cronometer.com is much better. Highly detailed break down of…
  • The problem with mushrooms is the common white button mushroom from the grocery store looks almost exactly like a strongly toxic variety that grows wild. Mushrooms, delicious or deadly. Got to be careful. I wouldn't do it without an experts identification. Even internet resources are limited if you don't know what you are…
  • My BF ate 12 in one day. He said watching Beauty & the Beast inspired him to eat more like Gaston. Now based on this experience, he doesn't recommend that many in a day. Didn't kill him, but his GI tract noticed the lack of fiber & high fat. So I think you are good as long as you stay under a dozen.
  • During the week: Fruit smoothies. Weekends: Tofu scramble or eggies in a basket. ETA: Tacos.
  • Love carbs for dinner. If you like them, eat them! I frequently have a carb based dinner then a banana right before bed (helps with insomnia).
  • 1. use reduced fat greek yogurt as a base for dips- gives a nice protein base instead of the calorically dense mayo version. Then pair with chips (I prefer baked versions) and veggies of your choosing. 2. Grill off a portion or two of marinated meat and/or veggie skewers. 3. I love what I call "Mediterranean Nachos". It's…
