  • If you like thrillers with very intriguing characters, I recommend anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. If you've never read any of their stuff, start with Relic and continue chronologically. Their books have given me a fictional crush on Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast.. :)
  • I hit my first real one today as I am the exact same weight as a week ago. I only have about 5 pounds to go too. It is a bit disconcerting, but at least it didn't go up! I'm thinking it's because I ate a bit more than usual this week and also did not exercise as much. So I plan to be more careful this week..
  • Hiya, I think it took me a little less than a couple weeks to get used to the hungry feeling. I remember thinking, "1200 calories is so little.." but I kept trying to follow the good tips folks were posting on the site and kept logging faithfully to keep track of everything I was eating. The logging helped keep me…
  • Gosh that is pretty rude for people to say. Why don't they just say, "I'm so happy for you!" or a simple compliment or word of encouragement-- I mean, why bring your hubby into it at all. Just so odd. !
  • I guess I am blessed to grow up in Hawaii because although there are a lot of us 'Asians' here there are also lots of folks of other races/ethnicities, not to mention many 'mixed' people (which I consider myself, though at first glance others probably label me Asian); meaning that we are all very used to seeing many…
  • I agree with the eating right part for sure, but what's that about lifting heavy things and moving quickly in short bursts? How/why will those two things cause one to lose weight better than sustained cardiovascular exercise?
  • Hmm.. looks like I need to post since I think the 'ideal' male body is lean but not skinny. :) That basically means lean muscle (i.e. moreso from aerobic activity than body building) but not to the point where you can see knobs or bones poking out. That said, for me, a body akin to that of Maksim Chmerkovskiy-- a little…
  • Well.. based on profile pics only, I would say 70% of folks on MFP don't look like they need to lose weight either!
  • Avalonis summed it up pretty well. Also, I don't know if you want to be in a committed relationship. That is, one that would lead to marriage. *If* you are talking about that level of relationship I think it'll depend on the kind of girl you fall in love with and whether or not she loves you back. If the love and…
  • If they do that they're really not worth your time anyway! That said I've been very blessed to be married to a man who doesn't care about my weight except to support my wanting to be healthier and happier by losing some and gettign fitter. :) But again, they ain't worth your time. Better to let that good man come along who…
  • JMO, I think the key is to look at the calories first. Don't get me wrong, lower fat is good, but the calories will account for the sugar content. Though I still avoid sugar substitutes-- they don't taste that great and just feel "wrong".
  • Can you explain why? How is one different fromt he other?
  • I think more guys should be asking themselves this question. :)
  • It is amusing how there are somehow only two categories for women: "curvy" or "just straight thin". So.. not sure about that but guys ought to be nice and lean, not overly muscled, but not thin either, with nicely developed pecs, though not overly bulgy in any part of the body.
  • But.. but.. there's *got* to be a way to spot target a tummy pouch!!? . . . . . . . (Yes, I am kidding..:)
  • I sweat a lot too, especially when I exercise, so I wouldn't really think too much about it in a gym-- that's where you're supposed to be sweating. :D
  • I think this is true, although sometimes it is more than 'slightly' inflated. The kind of people I find really beautiful are the ones who don't really notice or care much how attractive they are. Their auras shine through even more that way. :)
  • JMO, I would be surprised if the time actually matters. I think it's more about calorie balance, regardless of when you take the calories in. So if you have a small healthy snack late at night that fits in with your daily calorie goals, I don't see how it could hurt.
  • I've found that meat sandwiches are a little lower in calories (and tastier) than peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. For example... Yummy and filling turkey sandwich: 2 slices honey oat bran bread - 220 cals 3 slices oven roasted turkey breast lunch meat - 90 cals 2 tsp spicy brown mustard - 10 cals As much dark green…
  • Well I am sure anyone who's eaten at Cheesecake Factory or Olive Garden has met or surpassed that with ease, hahah. Congrats on realizing the need to start making healthier choices! :flowerforyou:
  • It makes sense that skipping breakfast can often lead to eating more calories and fat later in the day. Unless you are an extremely disciplined person who eats several small 'bird' snacks/meals throughout the day (in which case it wouldn't even count as skipping breakfast), or you are a total fitness buff who burns so many…
  • Mmm oreos.. :D I really like my sweets as well, but after a week or two of avoiding the temptation (mainly by reminding myself I really need to lose a bunch of flab) it's like I lost most of the urge to eat sweets. I've also been trying to eat more healthy sweets like fresh fruit, applesauce sprinkled with cinnamon, Kashi…
  • Chicken noodle soup is supposed to actually help somehow. :)
  • Slowish eater here. I like to savor my food so it's kind of natural to do that more slowly. Unless I'm super hungry-- then I tend to snarf things pretty quickly-- I try to avoid that happening. :]
  • Keep up the good work at school and try to ignore the folks who talk down to you. They are probably just jealous-- don't let them get to you and make you feel bitter. Keep the good attitude. :) I confess I have been guilty of being envious of people in similar situations as yours. :( Or sometimes I think back to younger…
  • If you are hungry, eat something. Doesn't have to be big, but eat something. Whereas if you're not hungry, don't eat. I have noticed beter weight loss results when I eat little snacks when I'm hungry. I don't lose weight as well if I try to deny feelings of hunger (your body telling you to eat!).
  • Just my non-medical opinion but sounds like you have some sort of tummy bug. I don't think the ramen would have caused anything. Since it's been going on a week now and you're having pain (albeit low level) I think you should go see a doctor or at least call for some medical advice. You don't want to wait until you…
  • Did you change your diet to a much more fiber-rich one recently? It could be your body adjusting to the fiber. I have bloat and constipation issues too sometimes, though I think the latter is due to my not getting enough fiber from time to time. That said, I strongly encourage you to visit your doctor for a check up. Also…
  • "Medium frame" gave me 121, and "large frame" gave me 127. The "large frame" matches my goal better though that term makes me think of Cyldesdales or something..! Ever since getting very sick a couple years ago and dropping to around 120, I know that weight is too low for me, even though in some people's eyes (maybe…
