I would love some support too - I want to lose 40-50 pounds. I have used MFP in the past with success. Then my son was born, and I gained it all back! Now he's 20 months old so I can't exactly use him as an excuse anymore! :-)

You can do it! Gradually building is the way to go. I'm nowhere close to being a runner, but when I first started, I couldn't even do a lap around the track - last week I was able to do 1.5 miles without stopping. I couldn't believe it. I think what allowed me to do it was gradual work, like I said (alternating jogging…

I'm not logging today but I've made appointments for Pilates and training for the rest of my time off. It's great to know I have enough control now so that if I indulge a little today, I know I I'll be totally back on mtrack tomorrow. I don't know that I've ever felt that degree of self assurance before - it feels great.

I agree that it varies depending on the person. For example, my boyfriend's BMI says he's overweight (he's 6'8 250) but because he was a professional athlete he has a lot of muscle. My plan is to try to get down to the suggested BMI range (if my body will allow me) and see if I like how I look. I figure as long as you're…

I just got past a plateau last week. When I looked at my past diary, I noticed that although I was generally staying under my goal (1300), the quality of food wasn't the greatest (i.e. there had been some slippage since I first started). So, I really cleaned up my diet, focusing on lean protein, vegetables, and low-fat (or…

Watch something frivolous, read a book, or (if I have time and it's the weekend) get a massage. This might sound nerdy, but I also like writing in my journal, making myself focus on positive things going on in my life. It always helps me turn my mood around.

Thanks for the helpful advice, everyone!

I would also wonder how slow is slow? I used to have real issues with losing weight slowly, but once I started using myfitnesspal religiously, I realized that I was consuming more calories than I thought I was. I have been using a high protein low carb arrangement and that has worked much better for me. Logging everything…
