  • I'm 5'7, 160, and about to turn 30, so I am in your boat as well. I'd love to get back down to what I weighed when I was 22 (120) but I'd settle for 140, even. I'm working hard, while trying not to give up all the things I love -- I think I'd go crazy if I did! -- and nothing seems to be working. I'm not giving up, though!…
  • Thanks! He's a big fan of Paleo-style eating, though doesn't do it consistently. We are planning on trying that cauliflower mash this week (though it's the one vegetable that actually makes me gag) as a steak side dish. But are potatoes really that bad? I know they're starches, but they're not full of anything that…
  • I would love more friends on FitBit! My Flex is awesome. I work at a desk, so my steps are set pretty low, but I try hard to meet my goals! And I love seeing the little light dots go further and further. :-) https://www.fitbit.com/user/276JLT
  • Hmm, I've been doing 30 minutes on my bike, with the last 10 as HIIT. I do 30 seconds on, 60 seconds off. How does that sound? It sure kicks my *kitten*...
  • UM, where is this magnificent show going to be held? I'mma need to go to this.
  • Drain and mash them with a fork, then mix in chopped onion and celery (however much you want), a half cup of mayonnaise, a splash of lemon juice, and LOTS of dill. So, so good. Spread on some bread...mmm. Excellent. I toss in a chopped bell pepper sometimes, too -- also delish.
  • Thank you! I drink water ALL day. I have this great bottle that holds about 26 ounces, and I regularly drink four of those. So...it's a lot of water. I don't drink a ton while I eat (I'd rather eat!) but I guess it could be overkill. And I can't even think about switching from coffee to tea. I hate tea. It makes me jittery…
  • Thank you! The protein powder is not new at all, I've been using it for about two years. The thing it does to me, though, is give me gas -- well, the artificial sweeteners do. I had heartburn the first time last Monday, and read about all the things that can set it off, so I cut out a few of those things last week. It came…
  • I need to update my list that I just posted to this: National Coney Island. There. That's my kryptonite. Hani and fries. I'm ready for the electric chair, warden.
  • Ahh hahaha MFP blocked my word. That is hilarious. And I have heard that about Belgium -- see, they've got better beer AND snacking habits.
  • Cheeseburgers Steak fries with Ranch Cheese puffs (this certain GF kind I buy at Meijer...good god) Pigs in a blanket Garlic bread Not in any order, though. This is also my ideal "last meal" menu. Mmm.
  • No shame. Fries dipped in mayo is the ****E. I only don't do it more regularly because Ranch is easier to obtain at restaurants.
  • Thanks! For me I doubt it's dairy...I just don't want to give up the foods I love, you know? I do keep Zantc in my purse now, so that's something.
  • Thanks! I guess I should stop worrying about numbers, but it is so ingrained in my thick skull to focus on them! Weight, inches, pounds, whatever. But I am gradually moving away from that.
  • Thanks! I know it's still pretty good, but I just feel stuck, you know? What is a "deload" week?
  • I am a big fan of ALL of those things! :-)
  • I burn an average of 300-500 calories a day, depending on what I'm doing. I did 5:2 for a few months last year, and so I try and keep Tuesday and Thursday at 1000 or below (not the traditional 500, that crap is haaaard), and the other days I try and get up to 1700. I never could wrap my head around "eating at maintenance"…
  • You're absolutely right on all of that. I am working hard at this, and it's not easy (or much fun, for that matter), and I don't plan on giving up. But wouldn't it make sense for SOME progress to have been made by this point? I don't know. It's never been easy for me, so I can't expect it to be easy the older I get, right?…
  • I forgot to add that! My measurements have gone up. UP. My thighs, waist, hips -- all bigger. Calves and arms stayed the same, which is to say enormous. My clothes feel tighter, and personally, I feel and look flabbier. I don't know how physics are being defied, here, but they clearly are.
  • The protein shake used to be great, actually. I have it when I'm getting ready for work, at 6 a.m., and it used to tide me over until 12. But now, I noticed I'm getting hungry around 11 or so, and it's getting harder to ignore. I have a Detour bar in the afternoons, but maybe I need to eat, like, half of one in the…
  • Thank you, yes, it does make a difference. And regarding the protein -- the hubs suggested 1 gram per pound of lean body weight, so I'm trying to get that MWF.
  • Yeah, it is pretty frustrating not see the same stomach I had last year...blargh. I moved my calories up to 1900, but I'm still going to keep low on Tuesdays and Thursdays to create a bigger deficit. I hate feeling deprived, but I want this to work, finally. I don't mean to snap. I think I'm hungry?
  • Thank you! I see what you did there, and I can work with that. I have changed my calorie goals so many times, but I am totally willing to try something new. Thanks again!
  • You know how I lost weight when I was 10 years younger? Not eating. Now, I can't not eat because I have people shoving food in my face all the time on here, telling me "eat more to weigh less," and you know -- it's not that easy anymore. But I am trying pretty hard, and I have been working out since I was in high school --…
  • Thank you! Most helpful answer. I have moved my numbers up to 1900, and I will work extra hard.
  • On that bmr-calculator site, you mean? I read the directions, and it said to put in your age, weight, height, blah blah, and then multiply the number you got by 1.55, if that's your activity level.
  • I think I am, actually -- this isn't my first time on this site, and it isn't the first time I've changed up my calorie goals. I just wanted to know if I had input my information accurately because I have been at a plateau for two months.
  • I actually want to lose 15 pounds, but I'd take 5 at this point. I have only gained weight so far this year. I just used the Scooby calculator, and it tells me I need to eat 1915 calories a day in order to lose weight, which I did for a while last year, with no results. It's not a huge addition, so I will try it out.
  • I'm using the one from this site: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
