  • The dirty secret about gyms.... no one is looking at you, they are all too busy worrying about not embarrassing themselves...
  • Eat a huge bowl of porridge for breakfast, and what everyone else has been saying, eat more
  • I'm not sure what advice you were expecting on a blog of a website built to count calories... All of the successful people on here count everything, all the time!
  • I've hit target weight and now plan to use for at least a month, probably two (hell, six months), here's why - I obviously didn't know what the right amount of food was for me, otherwise I wouldn't have got fat in the first place, I need to learn that, I'm a slow learner :-) - I do a lot of exercise, which is all calorie…
  • Oh, I'm so with you. I was never really big, but could see the weight going on slowly, and this time was determined to go back to a "pretty slim" weight, as i'm a cyclist and pushing fat up a hill on a bike isn't fun. People around me just didn't help.. I too kept it quiet until people noticed I gave up alcohol, and ate…
  • Myself and my wife go out for a walk almost every night, to the ice cream van that is 2.5km away. The 5km walk almost entirely covers the calories of the ice-cream (Mr whippy, not really proper ice cream), and if we don't have the 20 extra calories it needs to spare, we share one. If you've counted for it - Tick If you…
  • I balance my calories out over a week. That way on days you are more hungry, you can eat more, as long as you ease off and hit your total for a week, you'll be fine. The iPhone app makes this easy. Also, you could also do exercise on "cheat day", to keep under 1200 net
  • Hi, With the Wii Fit, it has good and bad. Anything that gets your heart rate up will be considered exercise, the problem with Wii Fit is it only keeps you going for a short while. You really need 30 mins of elevated heart rate to start doing some real good, and the wii fit doesn't make that easy. I'd recommend the Zumba…
  • I have 50 grams of porridge oats, made with water, and a teaspoon of greek honey, with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, 215 calories, and love it. Takes 5 mins to cook, so I make my lunch whilst I'm waiting. MK
  • Not surprising, you look great!
  • I agree with an earlier post, 2 weeks isn't a plateau, you should keep doing what you were doing, and I can't recommend going below 1200 calories on any day. Slow off, slow back on :)
  • Please do eat at least some of those extra calories, some people are tempted not to, but then put their body into starvation mode. I always eat at least half of the extra calories I burn. I'm off for cheese and biscuits now, as I did 690 calories of exercise today :) MK
  • Hi, My wife is a personal trainer, when she was training, she was told that drinking a lot of diet coke (750ml+ a day) would affect your weight loss, as one of the chemicals in it reduced muscle mass over a sustained period. As we all know, the more muscle you have the better, as it burns up calories by just being muscle.…
  • I have to declare an interest up front.... my wife is both a personal trainer and a nutritionist! There are good trainers and bad trainers, but you should always look at a qualified, registered and insured trainer. In the UK, you don't need any qualifications to call yourself a trainer, so always go for one that is REPS…
  • Hi, welcome to MFP, one thing to remember, its taken 4 years to put the weight on, so it won't drop off overnight. Be patient, don't weigh yourself too often, and keep setting yourself small targets so you feel a sense of achievement. Good luck :-) MK
  • Sorry, I can't agree with a low carb diet, we're not designed to function like that. As you only have a few kilo's to lose, it is going to be hard. I would recommend you being patient, and setting MFP to half a pound a week, and make sure you exercise and eat your calories. There isn't really a healthy quick fix for the…
  • sardines :-)
  • Hi, I live in the UK, and have quite a few French friends. I saw a survey recently, and 100 women in the UK, USA and France were asked what they thought and felt when they were shown high quality chocolate. The people from the UK and USA said guilt, sin, fattening, the French ladies said Luxury. Whatever you eat, enjoy it,…
  • Hi, I switch mine off as I finish exercise, I'd rather under read than over read. I'm sure its just personal choice though.
  • Hi, where did you get the food diary from? I know in the UK biggest loser, one of the trainers was thrown off the programme as they advised the contestants to eat too little for 1 day!! I have seen the Australian version though, and it is more hardcore than the UK one Moose
  • To really lift the taste, add either lemon juice as mentioned before, or a few drops of vinegar. Sounds bad, tastes excellent. If you've been exercising hard, (over a couple of hours), sardines on wholemeal toast is an excellent way to get your Protein and Carbohydrates back to the right level, and all that Omega 3 too,…
  • I'd ask if you are drinking enough (water), if so, I'd say listen to your body, it knows best MK
  • Sadly this happened 23 years ago in Hungerford, where 14 people were killed. At that time all handguns were banned in the UK. Luckily you were very young then, so you won't remember it, and thankfully these things only happen very very rarely in the UK. MK
  • Hi, I think you are doing the right thing. Eat 75% of the calories you burn, and if you don't lose weight, reduce that slowly to say 65%, and trim to what you know is right for you. Personally I know walking, even quickly, isn't difficult for me, so I halve those calories, but running is, so I keep all of them! MK
  • Yes, done that, was in a race with someone and they reached for my water bottle and pulled the magnet. Also, I've fallen over when I have stepped off, if you're on a treadmill for a while, you can get dizzy when you step off, always looks funny! MK
  • Hello from Leeds...
  • Hi, I don't know anything about yogurt making, but I know a little about the laws of physics! Most fermentation turns sugar into something else, but you can't create energy (which calories are), so at the very worst the yogurt will have the same calories as the milk. In some fermentation, such as in bread, heat is given…
  • Hi all, Thanks for all the words of wisdom over the last week, i managed to lose 2.5lbs in 11 days. I have changed my weigh in day to Saturday am, as its to stick to that day. I've also read up on a lot of the links people have sent me, and changed my target weight loss to 1lb per week, as I now have 5.5lbs left to my…
  • Hi, thanks for your support, I've been walking about 4 miles a day for the last 10 years, so I do need to shake it up a bit, just looking at punchbags and boxing mitts... Will let you all know! MK
