  • I'm 4 years post op now, and I have no problems with iced decaf, with fat free creamer. In the beginning, I could only sip and wait... all good things are worth waiting for :)

  • I love Melissa McCarthy. Her role in 'Gilmore Girls' solidified her talent. When she was on G.G. I heard nothing about her weight, only her talent. When 'Mike and Molly' started and her co-star exceeded her size, media said the show wouldn't last. Well, it lasted almost 6 years. A tribute to her acting and good writing -…

  • And so it begins.... that 'first day of the rest of your life'.....seize it, girl! We are all behind you! Many thoughts as you take that first step.... :drinker:
  • Hi Meyou, I am interpreting your post on lacking support to mean 'within an individual's 'personal life.' Where that is not something I've noticed as an issue within our membership, it is certainly true within my life. That is, in part, why I started this group. Not only was weight loss surgery a new option for so many…
  • AWESOME GROUP INDEED! 1900!!! I'm so amazed! Three years ago, when I searched and found there was NO Group dedicated to the support and needs of the GBS/VSG/LapBand members, I petitioned MyFitnessPal to let me start a group. This was back when you HAD to ask to start a group. They agreed and this group was born…
  • Hi and Welcome Millie, I was not given any restrictions except no diving my car while still on pain killers. However, I was over the medication piece within 3 days of being home. For me it was a comfort issue while sitting, so take a few longer car rides, as the trip approaches, and make sure you don't need a pillow, etc.,…
  • "Congratulations! Tomorrow is your day. You're off to great places and you are on your way!" We will be waiting to hear how it all went and how you felt. Best of luck. :drinker: Christine

  • Csmccord couldn't have said it better. Read that above post over and over  It's truly amazing what we RNY'ers have to do to figure out what's going on with our metabolism. Thanks Csmccord for the informational post. I am sure it will help all of us understand 'it' a little bit better. :drinker: Christine
  • KDar - remember WLS of all kinds is not a quick fix and the body sometimes needs a jump start. Recently, while on maintenance, I was so discouraged that I was gaining yet exercising and not eating back calories that I went back to my nutritionist for help. She helped me tweak food changes - more proteins and less carbs.…

Always feel free to ask questions, share advice and concerns and most importantly, share support. We are delighted you are here. It's so important, in the start of your WLS journey, to be…

  • I joined the gym 3 months after my surgery, but the pounding my knee took on the treadmill caused me to concentrate on the pool. I did lots of water aerobics and many other water programs my gym designed. It was so much better on my arthritic knees. Check out all the pool programs they offer. Start simple and as you get…
  • Welcome:drinker: This is the group for you! Everyone is this group is somewhere in the process or beyond. For nearly every step of this journey to get healthy, there will be members that can offer advice, suggestions or ideas. All you have to do is post. Feel free to add me! • Wonderful news!!! :drinker: It sounds like you made it through better than many of us!!! Hope the rest of your recovery goes as well. Keep us informed! So excited for you !!!!
  • Great to hear that you are starting out pretty smoothly. Clear liquids as much and as often as you can tolerate - very beneficial! Remember not to take multiple swallows (like when you drink a glass of water or milk). Sip, baby! That was the hardest thing for me to remember. Move around too - helps to get the last…
  • Heather, Did I just read you have a 'two week window' to get the surgery and recover before going back to work? Not sure that is in your best interest, but everyone is different. I didn't get off my post surgical clear liquid diet for a week, followed by high protein & full liquids diet for a week. That was hard to do and…
  • Welcome to our group Heather! :drinker: My surgeon, in southern Maine, performed only the RNY or LapBand so I knew, with the amount of weight I wanted gone, I'd would go with the RNY. My very first visit required a 'sponsor' to go with me - someone (friend or family) who I could lean on for support as I went through the…
  • We are all hoping all is well as you begin your post surgical journey. If you are feeling up to it, we'd love to hear how your hospital experience went? Is it what you expected?
  • PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE... I love this author - she is such an inspiration for all of us in this group. I really wish you could share it with that 'male friend (???)' - this would open his eyes - if not his brain! ((scroll down a little after opening)…
  • I lived on Unjury shakes pre & post op! So many flavors and I had many options for boosting the protein (i.e. Fage greek 0% unflavored). Then I switched to EAS Advantage Edge 3 months later - adding fiber, fruit & greek yogurt to the shake. I really wished I could get the hang of protein bars - never was able to find one I…
  • KDar ~ Welcome! You made great choice.... in joining this group. We are here for support in your efforts. Salud :drinker:
  • I take two gummie multi vites and two gummy vit c every morning with breakfast. My surgeon suggested the gummies and not the chew tabs - he felt it was easier on the digestion process. He did say I could take liquid multi vites, but haven't found any - except Vit B complex - I take that sublingual 1xmonth.
  • I was, as well, on clear liquids as well as clear protein for nearly 2 weeks. I guess every MD/surgeon is different. If you have a nutritionist, you should consult them with your issues. Gurgling is definitely common, and be sure to sip little swallows at a time. Not surprised you aren't hungry. Rest, try to relax and keep…
  • OH BEST of LUCK! I remember that week leading up, the night before and that very day like it was yesterday - the days to follow are a distant memory! The lead up to the big day was all that mattered to me. The excitement was immeasurable. That excitement blurred most of what followed.... I only knew my life was starting…
  • 2.3 years out and I have always measured my food. Never bought a scale... always wished I did, but I'm happy with measuring and still do.
  • I, too, had several co-morbidities that qualified me to be considered. That allowed my insurance to approve provided I follow my surgeon's program. My program included monthly visits with the surgeon to track my weight and weekly visits to the nutritionist where I need to chart my eating and exercise on Myfinesspal. I also…
  • Thanks for the great info! Love learning new stuff and about new healthy food products so many rave about. Hitting up GNC this weekend ~ can't wait!
