  • Sounds like the guy's an a-- h---, so who the eff cares what he thinks?
  • Whenever I don't feel like running but know that I SHOULD run, I talk myself into doing a short version of one of my usual routes, just to get out for 10 or 15 minutes. Almost every time I end up feeling good enough 10 minutes into it to keep going, but even if I turn around and go home I can say to myself I at least got…
  • What do you mean by "healthy dieting"? 10 pounds a week really can't be healthy. Do you mean that the food you eat is all healthy? Most experts agree that 1-2 pounds per week is the most you can lose in a healthy way. Any more and you risk putting your body through serious physical stress or losing a bunch of weight that…
  • It's under "bicycling," not "Biking" or "bike riding." Sometimes you have to poke around a bit to find the right wording on here.
  • Jumping rope is a great workout. Just make sure your aunt doesn't have low ceilings.
  • Go to hungry-girl.com. She's got a ton of recipies for lower-calorie versions of foods your whole family can eat so you're not stuck with a sad little salad while they're chowing down on delicious hot meals. She specializes in recipies under 200 calories. Totally amazing!
  • It's an Omron HR-100. I got it because it was $30 and I ready all of these reviews about how it's the best cheap heart rate monitor available, and I guess I just never thought to look into whether it actually had the feature I was buying it for.....
  • So I finally got my heart rate monitor, and I guess I was envisioning some magical device that I could set with my weight and that, at the end of my workout, would tell me exactly how many calories I burned. Turns out it just tracks my heart rate as I'm going, and it's up to me to figure out what that means in terms of…
  • It's a dress fitting, not the wedding itself, right? I think your best bet is to rescedule the fitting for closer to your wedding date. Even if you lost 20 lbs in a month, which would be incredibly difficult and probably pretty dangerous, it would be really hard to keep it off until your wedding. If you get the dress fit…
  • mrsbuzz, I'm of the belief that you have to find a plan that works for you in real life. If you just can't live happily without pizza and Pepsi, then don't quit eating pizza and drinking Pepsi! Just eat them in moderation, or find healthier ways of eating them. This just can't be about depriving yourself for the rest of…
  • Swiftyoung- Egg Beaters egg whites and Edensoy Extra soymilk are great for protein and low in calories. I eat them every day now!
  • Technically, measurements should be taken this way: Bust: widest possible point Waist: narrowest point Hips: wisest point Depending on the length of torso and legs, these will be different places on different people's bodies, but measuring in those places will ensure that you're accurately tracking your own progress.
  • Woo hoo! Good for you!
  • Congrats on your engagement! Marriage is awesome. We'll all be here to help you feel beautiful and confident on your wedding day!
  • That sucks; you made a great decision in seeking out a person to help you manage your health, and you're left feeling like you were doing something wrong. I hope you don't give up on seeing a nutritionist completely, though. MFP is a really great and helpful tool, but it's not a medical guide, and it may turn out that…
  • My favorite salad: 3 cups of baby spinach one cup of cherry tomatoes 2 oz of plain goat cheese 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar It's 346 calories, most or which come from the goat cheese and olive oil. The goat cheese has 10g of protein and both the olive oil and the goat cheese have good, healthy…
  • I've been having a hard time getting my 8 cups of water in every day. I usually drink 4 with lemon first thing in the morning, but then once I get to work I just sit with my coffee and don't do any more hydrating. This week I brought my favorite glass from home and a little baggie of lemon slices in to work with my lunch.…
  • Welcome, Deb! Congrats on your new fitness plan! If it helps, I would sign on to no food plan that didn't allow a nightly glass or two of red wine. You'll be able to shape up and keep those things you love at the same time!

  • I discovered last year that jumping rope is a good winter excercise because you can do it indoors. I trick myself into doing it every time by turning on a movie while I jump. It distracts me enough from the fact that I'm exercising that I really start to look forward to it!
  • And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!:drinker:
  • The running magazines I've read say that you should have a snack about an hour into a long run. Maybe you need to do the same thing when you work out. I take a plastic baggie of crackers when I run now and munch on a few of them as soon as I start to feel hungry- seriously, I don't even stop moving! You could experiment…
  • No, I totally hear that. Sometimes you just want to eat that one perfect food, and if it turns out less than perfect you just want to throw a full-fledged todler-style temper tantrum. I hope your redone potatoes turn out to be *almost* as good!
  • "Bad" by Michael Jackson! Black Eyed Peas are great, too.
  • I stopped eating those things because there are other snack bars with fewer calories. My new favorite is Kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidants. They have 120 calories and 9g of fiber. The chocolate chip flavored ones taste like those chocolate caramel girl scout cookies!
  • Yeah, I think the safest thing is to have easy stuff ready to go at work or at home so that you can just grab food as you're running out the door. Fruit, granola bars, yogurts, juice boxes....anything that comes in its own package and fits in a purse is a better bet than stopping at a drive-through, which will take just as…
  • The article is at http://www.prevention.com/cda/article/4-ways-to-flatten-your-belly/2e6dd08f88803110VgnVCM20000012281eac____/fitness/belly.abs/ab.exercises I've been doing the one where you suck in your stomach while exhaling.
  • Does anyone here ever exercise at their desk? I just read an article on preventionmagazine.com that showed ab exercises that you can do while seated, so I'm secretly doing them at work today. One woman I used to work with replaced her chair with an exercise ball. Any other ideas out there?
  • Ooh, my husband does this, and they're gooood! Slice the potato as thin as you can. (One of those vegetable slicers would be perfect for this.) Brush them with a little bit of olive oil. You could probably substitute a low-fat cooking spray if you wanted to. Season to taste with salt and pepper. He's a chilihead, so he…
  • I'm definitely motivated by numbers, too. Maybe you could try putting away the scale and just doing waist/ thigh/ butt/ etc measurements every couple of weeks?
  • It's easier to lose weight if you eat the bulk of your calories early in the day rather than at night since your metabolism slows down when you sleep. That said, I can't imagine it'd be much better to force yourself to eat a big breakfast when you're not hungry for it. Maybe you could try slowly shifting to a larger,…
