  • I've just been introduced to the idea of eating plant based (not that I hadn't heard of it, but a nutritionist I met with gave me some good resources and just suggested I try it) and I am going to at least begin to lean plant based....not sure if I'm going 100% that way yet, but at least I'm going to try and introduce more…
  • Yeah...if I could wish to be OCD on one thing in life it would be my food and exercise....but that's not the case so I have to create the environment in which I can hyper-focus on them and not let other things get in the way....but....things do get in the way, naturally. Thanks for all who chimed in....any other thoughts…
  • I use a protein shake right after I workout, especially if I lift weights. This helps in the recovery from the workout. I use Biochem Whey protein - I particularly like the berry flavor. I just add it to a cup of milk. This is just one person's opinion and one of many protein products on the market though.
  • Another thing I did which may or may not be helpful is I listed the top 25 foods I eat on a regular basis. I looked at them from the standpoint of sugar and made 4 changes: yogurt - I went to a lower sugar, higher protein option salad dressing - I went to a lower sugar option, but avoided one with fake sugar I added…
  • Keep up the weight lifting - it can help change the composition of your body even though the scale may not move. Lifting weights and building muscle helps to create the "after burn" which is when your body burns calories for a time (not sure how long though, there are different thoughts on that) after you have left the…
  • How are your clothes fitting? Often the scale won't budget when you are trying to change to composition of your body - losing fat, gaining muscle, but you'll see/feel the improvements in your clothing first. Protein is really important - I often hear 40/30/30 as a good mix of carb/fat/protein percentages of daily calorie…
  • Hi - I have been doing MFP since 2012 and ramped things up in June 2014 by adding health coach. I've lost almost 30 pounds and have recently begun to lift weights. I have ordered this book - NROLFW - and thus have not yet begun but have come to this group for advice, guidance and knowledge. I'm 39, two teens at home, full…
  • I usually try to steer clear and hit Subway instead, but if you are not careful you can do just as much damage at Subway! I do like the Southwestern Salad, I just go easy on the salad dressing or use my own.
  • I'm also looking to ramp up my use of the MFP community as I've been consistently logging since June 2014, have made great progress with almost 30 lbs lost, 15 or so more to go to got my goal and am into lifting weights now. I'll add you....hoping people will reach out to me as well!!!
  • If you like Dunkin Donuts Coffee Coolatta's (which I did love and consumed 2-3 times per week) until I put my sugar intake into context with the rest of my life. I'm allowed 56 grams of sugar a day. My Coolatta was using up 53 of these grams....leaving me with 3 grams elsewhere....ugh! And I DID stay within my total…
  • When I'm in a rush I grab berries (blueberries, raspberries or blackberries) and a chobani plain yogurt. I find cottage cheese (full fat, Hood, 6oz) and a golden delicious apple holds me well until lunch time, too.
  • I wanted to share 2 favorite recipes of mine: 1 cup blueberries - I like to use frozen ones, it makes the smoothie colder 1 medium banana 2 swiss chard leaves 1 tsp ground cinnamon 2 tbsp ground flax seeds 2 cups cold water (1.5 cups might be enough depending on your desired thickness) 4 leaves of Romaine (sometimes I do…
  • About 5 weeks ago I signed up for a health coach and part of that program is a personal trainer. For $300 I got an initial assessment - both of my physical state (looking for injuries, weaknesses, a base line of where to start with cardio and weight lifting, etc) and the food I consume. That assessment resulted in…
  • I have the EatSmart Precision Pro digital kitchen scale. I bought it in 2011 on amazon.com and paid $25. Still have it, still use it and it's great. I just ordered a smaller travel size scale, the American Weigh Scale Ac-650 Digital pocket scale. I now carry it in my purse. I paid 10.29 on amazon.com and so far I like it.…

  • I purchased this book in June 2013 and did 10 of the 14 days a few weeks later. Yes, I loved this program and yes, I saw great results, although weight loss was not an immediate result. Had I been able to "change the foundation of my life" and how I eat I would have seen the weight loss. However, I am a complex individual…
  • Ok scrap that...I went back to play with my goals and it just isn't going to be realistic to lose 20 lbs by Christmas...If I had started 4 weeks ago then yeah I could have been in the running. I'll watch and see how you all do along the way....while I work toward my goals overall.
  • Seems a bit much for the short time I have but I'd like to join and see how close I can get! I'm in!
