Spend as much as you can to get quality cookware that will last a long time. What kind of cook is she? Calphalon has some great pieces in both a nonstick and a "glide" format.

I had a similiar surgery many many years ago and I found banana's too hard.. I would get some protein shakes to keep your diet balanced. Eggs were good. Oatmeal worked. Pasta like ancini de pepi or orzo..
