I gain first around my waist and I lose first around my waist, so I dropped at pant size after losing about 10 lbs. My upper body is a totally different story. I've lost 20 lbs and I still wear the same bra size. I even went for a professional fitting to check it out. My arms, too. I don't think I've lost much from my…

Our theatre is called Harkins, and when you search their popcorn, even the extra large bag doesn't come near that. Get the large popcorn with your beau, then ask for a smaller bag or something to dump in to. Take a reasonable portion for you, eat it slowly, and do not stick your hand back into HIS portion. Oh, and of…

I'm going to jump off topic a little bit, but have you looked closely at the nutrition information for Quaker Instant Oatmeal? http://www.quakeroats.com/Libraries/pdf/Oatmeal_Nutrition_Facts.sflb.ashx There is very little protein and a lot of sugar. If I ate that for breakfast, I'd be starving again by 10:00am. I have some…

I get that too. Although I never tell people that I'm "dieting", sometimes they will notice and comment if I order from a restaurant's "light" menu. People all around us are really fat, overweight, or obese, whatever word you like. Most often the people that tell me that I don't need to lose weight are those that are…

I also air pop ... then spray lightly with cooking spray/PAM or water to make my seasonings stick. I use Cumin, or Chili Powder, or Garlic Powder, or Dill, or whatever savory flavors I feel like using.. Oh, and I like a few shakes of hot cause on mine too! Best wishes on your health and wellness journey!

It's funny that you try to defend "negative calories" I love apples. Do you truly think that if I ate 1,200 calories worth of apples every day, I would lose weight faster than if I ate other foods.? I enter everything into the journal. Diet soda contains sodium, and I track sodium. This article explains that "negative…

Don't worry about the numbers that MFP gives you for Protein, Fat, Carbs. Just keep your calories at or just under the total they suggest and you'll do great. I eat veg'n a few times a week, and on those days I'm way over on carbs and way under on fat and protein, but I keep to the total calories. I think you have to find…

Last month, I met -- and had dinner with -- veteran actor Hal Holbrook. He's been around for years, but most recently the grandfather in "Water for Elephants". He's a really nice guy, with 70 years of acting stories to share! You can see us here:…

Nope, I don't do a splurge day either. I will enjoy a treat once or twice a week that WILL push me over my daily calorie limit, but I won't go hog wild on calorie dense food. Some people call it a cheat day, but the only person you are cheating on is YOU! Here's just one article on Food Addiction.…

Does it occur to you that your "trouble spots" are only trouble to you? People around you may not even notice them, so stop obsessing. An earlier poster was correct, you cannot "spot reduce", so just keep working toward your goal. Best wishes to all on your health and wellness journey,

I know that I felt "frumpy" at my higher weight. I don't know that my self-confidence has been raised by getting into better shape. Besides, doesn't the word self-confidence mean "confidence in yourself"? Which I extrapolate to mean "confidence that doesn't come from the outside". I really enjoy the fact that I can wear…

My suggestion is that you just consider it your contribution to Mother Nature and don't worry about the calorie burn. Unless you really raised your heartrate for an extended period of time, it really isn't a workout anyway. Some people spend too much time fretting over the calories-in, calories-out calculations that they…

I am skeptical to most of these. I'm still a believer that your total calories in must be less than the calories you expend. That seems to be the plan that's working for me. My doctor wrote me a prescription to Phentermine. It's an amphetimine that supresses appetite and allegedly boosts metabolism. I took it for a couple…

Nutritious treat: 1/2 cup non-fat greek yogurt with an apple diced into it. Not-so-nutritious treat: A rice cake with a thin smear of canned frosting! Best wishes on your health and wellness journey,

Every calorie, every day. That's the only way your brain really registers all the unnecessary fat, calories and sodium that you cheat yourself with. Food is the fuel for your great machine. Feed it the right amount of the best quality foods! Best wishes on your health and wellness journey!

As of this posting, yes my profile photo is me. There is a good chance that it will morph into something else in the future :-) Best wishes to all!

My husband said that because we live in a marital-property state, when I lost the fat, he gained it :-) Which is just a little bit true :-) This seems like a good answer: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/body-fat/AN01327 When you lose weight, where does the lost body fat go? Answer from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. Body…

My husband has Celiac Disease so Rice Cakes are a staple for him. We do savory toppings like soy cheese and lean meats. We do some of your sweet toppings, but canned frosting is a favorite. No, frosting has absolutely no nutritional value, but sometimes you just gotta do it. Everything in moderation, right ?!? Best wishes…

Hi, My columns are Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Sodium and Iron. I watch the sodium because my blood pressure is borderline. I track the iron because I was diagnosed as Iron Deficient at my last physical, so I'm striving to eat more iron-rich foods. BUT -- I don't live or die by the MFP suggested ratios of any of these…

I do lose about 1 lb per week, sometimes a little more. I'm in it for the long haul, so I'm not working out for hours a day, nor am I starving. I follow the MFP plan which, for me, is 1,200 calories per day, and I burn about 125 calories on my daily morning walk. Being honest with the calorie counting plus my daily walk is…

I have eaten mostly-vegan in the past - I really like eggs - and am currently enjoying a "omnivorous" diet, still high in vegetables and fruits as well. I did lose a bunch of weight early in my vegan time, mostly because I was just eating so much better. But then weight crept back on because I was eating of a lot of…

I gain weight first in my waist and I lose it first in my waist, so I saw a difference in my dress pants and jeans with about 5 lbs lost. At 10 lbs gone, I noticed a difference across my chest and ribs, and got a few blouses buttoned. Unfortunately, I still have extra inches on my arms that I really wish would go away, but…

The best buffet advice I ever got (I think this was from the John Tesh Radio Show): Before getting a plate, walk the ENTIRE length of the buffet and look at all of the offerings. This will keep you from loading up a plate, eating it, then going back to the buffet and saying "Oh, I didn't see that the first time, and I have…

Because I see my co-workers every day, no one noticed my "winter project" until I put on some sleek spring dresses this week. I was able to go from caterpillar to butterfly in 5 months, but I'm not quite done yet! Congrats on getting some kudos! Best wishes on your health and wellness journey!

The week before is when I see a little water weight increase. Remember that the leaner you are, the less fat there is to store that pre-menstrual water! I also get the munchies really bad that pre-week and have to make really good food choices. Always surprising to me how the very day my period starts, all gets back to…

I am 5'6" and MFP set my calories at 1,200 per day. "MY" goal is just 3.5 lbs away at 145. My doctor, who made me sign up for MFP while I was in his office, would like me to be eating between 800-900 calories a day. He wants me at 135, right in the middle of the healthy BMI range. I guess you just have to figure out what…

MFP will re-adjust your calories to your maintenance amount when you reach your goal. The reason they set it at 1,300 (or in my case, 1,200) is because they want you to see a loss of at least 1 lb per week or else you'll get discouraged and quit! I'm guessing you are smart enough to eat more if you look like a skeleton.…

Emerald Dark Cocoa Roast Almonds are my favorite. http://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/emerald/cocoa-roast-almonds Sometimes it's non-fat greek yogurt with a little added sweetener, honey, or maple syrup. http://www.oikosyogurt.com/greek-yogurt/fat-free-greek-yogurt/quarts.aspx (go to the link, then click on…

First, drink a big glass of cold water. Sit back, relax. Are you feeling more calm and in control of that craving yet? Now try a snack that contains some fat and protein. My fave afternoon snack is Emerald Dark Cocoa Roast Almonds. Here's the breakdown:…

My doctor, who MADE me sign up for MFP while I was in his office, would like me to eat 800 to 900 calories per day. If I make sure that every calorie is good, nutritious, whole foods. I am pretty comfortable at that number. His philosophy is "the faster you lose the weight, the more likely you are to keep it off". I'm not…
