Plain Instant Oatmeal
So, I have Quaker Instant Oatmeal everyday for breakfast and I buy the bulk box from Costco with four flavors - Original (plain), Apples and Cinnamon, Maple and Brown Sugar, and Sugar and Spice (or something like that). I like all of the flavors except for Original so I have bags and bags of this stuff. Any ideas or recipes to use them up?

Gradually mix them in with the flavored ones.
You could just make a double batch - 1 packet flavored, 1 packet plain & mix it all together. Then eat half one day, half the next.0 -
Just add some cinnamon powder to it and it will be great.0

Uh, put things in them? Why can't you add apples and cinnamon or maple and brown sugar yourself?0

I like the portion control and I am usually eating them at my desk out of a dixie cup.0 -

I tried that but when left to the side for a short amount of time, they tend to take on the same properties as cement.0 -

easy lol. I had not realized that plain instant oatmeal was one of your touchy issues lol. I was thinking of maybe cookies or maybe a coating for some meal at dinner rather than breadcrumbs.0 -
Cinnamon and splenda if you need the little bit of sweet.0

I add some cinnamon and some TruVia to mine and its pretty good!0
-
add powdered sweetners and nutmeg yummmy and both things easy to carry round and hide0

I buy plain oatmeal and add splenda and cinnamon to mine. Pretty much the same calories as the other.0

add a little cinnamon, chop some apples and one pack of splenda it will taste like the apple and cinnamon one.0

Add whatever you have on hand-- cinnamon, nuts, fresh or dried fruit, a spoonful of jam, peanut butter, nutella. You can even do a savory oatmeal with olive oil and parmesean, or soy sauce and scallions, but I realize most people find that weird.
Or you can send them to me. I only eat the plain kind.0 -

Set aside half of the DRY oatmeal for your next serving.0 -
I'm going to jump off topic a little bit, but have you looked closely at the nutrition information for Quaker Instant Oatmeal?
http://www.quakeroats.com/Libraries/pdf/Oatmeal_Nutrition_Facts.sflb.ashx
There is very little protein and a lot of sugar. If I ate that for breakfast, I'd be starving again by 10:00am.
I have some nice recipes for baked goods that use oatmeal, but they all say NOT to use instant. You could find an oatmeal cookie recipe to use up those original packets.
Best wishes on your health and wellness journey,0 -
Here's a bunch of different ideas for "add ins" you can try:
add a spoonful of peanut butter
add cinnamon and sliced banana
add a little protein powder (vanilla or chocolate)
add 1/4 cup nuts (chopped walnuts, sliced almonds, etc)
add some raisins
add a little raspberry jam
I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast so I am learning to be creative
just a thought--if you buy the "quick oats" (not instant) they cook in the microwave in 1 minute and are cheaper and better for you than the "plain instant" which still has tons of sugar and preservatives, etc. And you can still add stuff to make them taste great0 -
Add about 2 tsp of sugar and 2 tbsp of peanut butter. I hardly ever skip a day.0

I mix in a cup of defrosted frozen blueberries. I find it to be more filling than the flavored oatmeals with about the same number of calories.0

Peanutbutter or protein powder in my oats, everyday0

Everything is a touchy issue with that one.. browse the forums and see. ;P
As for cookies/breadcrumb substitute, I'm not sure how well the instant oatmeal would work for that. The oats seem smaller/more powdery than traditional plain oats. I'm with the others who suggest mixing the flavors ..half plain & half something else. That's what I usually do, anyway.0 -
Peanutbutter or protein powder in my oats, everyday
^^Yep - that too!0 -
Why not add stuff to them to flavor them? There's any number of things you can add to plain oatmeal to make it tastier. Fruit (fresh or dried), nuts, seeds, honey, nut butter, cinnamon, etc.
I know you said you eat them at your desk a lot, but why not just pack a zip lock baggies with some crasins and nuts in it, or bring a banana to slice and put in there.0 -
My kids love these, I spread it in a pan to cool and then cut them into tiny squares. I make a healthier version for myself using coconut oil, almond milk and agave and protein powder, but if you are looking for quick and easy, this is it.
No Bake Cookies:
2 C. Sugar
2 Tblsp. Cocoa
1/2 C. Butter
1/2 C. Milk
1/2 C. Peanut Butter
1 Tsp. Vanilla
5 C. Instant Oatmeal
Combine sugar, cocoa, butter, milk and peanut butter and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla and oats. Stir until combined. Drop by tsp. on wax paper or spead in a pan, cool and cut in squares.0 -
I have the same problem with the packages I buy my kids. I use them in my meatloaf, to make no bake cookies, or I take them down to the senior center and donate them.0

I'm not a big fan of instant oatmeal. One of the things I have done is prepared several servings of old fashioned oats on the weekend and portion it out for the week. It heats up nicely in the microwave then I add a couple of tablespoons of almond butter.
You can also utilize google to search for various types of recipes (oatmeal muffins, etc..).0 -
There are some recipes for healthier cookies and pancakes that use plain instant oatmeal. Do some googling!0

Add cinnamon and a packet of sweetner (Equal, Splenda, Truvia, Stevia, etc....) If you want you could also add honey or maple syrup but then you'll be adding calories and I'm not sure you want to do that. Some people add a serving of jam or preserves or fresh fruit as well. It just depends on your taste.0

Add a spoonful of preserves (sugar free) like blackberry or apricot...yummy!!! Or a tablespoon of peanut butter and a swirl of sugar free jelly0
-
Cinnamon and splenda if you need the little bit of sweet.
This is what I do with plain oatmeal, too.0
