  • Not everyone does well on a low carb diet with PCOS. I've done multiple diet experiments with my PCOS and high fiber or high protein will do the same thing for your blood sugar. So I'll tell you two things, try a whole foods plant based diet with a diet full of whole grains, legumes, fruits, and veggies and get your sweets…
  • I can lose weight with PCOS as long as I eat less food consistently. Low carb, high carb, vegan, paleo, I've tried all the fad diets and lost on all of them. You know what really matters? Consistency. Whatever you can do to make eating less food consistently easy for you, do that, even with PCOS. Good luck! Also add in…
  • I'm 5'3 and was around 195 in the first picture, and 160 in the second. I'm half way to my goal but have hung around 160 for some time. I'm back on the wagon now but I'm still proud I was about to maintain almost a 40 lb loss for two years. So inspired and proud of all the shorties on this thread!
  • Congratulations! You look fantastic! How did you calculate calories so that you did not feel too hungry but still lost weight? I am starving on 1200 or 1300 calories a day. :-(
  • Red wine. I know it's not that low in calories but for some reason, it doesn't put weight on me like beer and my hangovers are WAY better.
  • If you're giving up after two weeks, your reason for doing it isn't strong enough. That said, it sounds like you just need some strategy. For me, I got frustrated and struggled with my hunger when I first started counting calories again too. When your body is used to a certain number of calories, your insulin levels and…
  • If you have no medical reason to eat a low carb diet, then it is not necessary. I do it because I have PCOS which causes issues with insulin and blood sugar, so it does help me control my appetite signals and lower my weight. That said if you still want to try low carb, I'd suggest investing in a spiralizer so you can make…
  • Why couldn't you fit the reese's cups and popcorn into your calories for the day? I'm learning one fallacy many dieters have is going from 0 to 100. Cutting out favorite foods, saying it will be different this time, exercising 6 days a week when you've been exercising none, etc. These changes can't happen in a day, they…
  • For my overprontation, nothing has worked better than the Saucony Stabils. I've tried Brooks, Asics, etc and Saucony Stabil have been the best so far in preventing my foot from rolling in. They are definitely worth a try. I will warn they look fairly ridiculous...worth it.
  • Thanks for the tips! I just bought the Saucony Stabil's that have helped a lot but I was curious if it was even possible to run a half marathon or marathon with flat feet. Trying to C25K even when I feel like I can do more may be the ticket now that I have the shoes plus daily stretches.
  • Lost 30 lbs on Weight Watchers. What helps me is the flex points, I have a hard time understanding how to eat junk in "moderation" and WW flex points helped me do that. I also like that fruit and vegetables are zero points because if I'm hungry and out of calories I get pissed and rebel but with WW i can have fruit or veg…
  • I think meal planning is of the utmost importance for keeping costs down especially when you're dealing with very perishable food. One trick that restaurants use to keep cost down is buying in bulk and then using that bulk item in multiple meals. For example, buy a whole chicken instead of chicken breasts and use that…
  • I've struggled with binge eating and stress eating since I was about 10. It's exhausting, I can tell you one thing you cannot shame yourself into losing 100 lbs. Its quite the opposite, you need to learn to love yourself and extend compassion to yourself for where you are right now. Even if you are heavy, you need to feel…
  • Yes! If you have any suggested websites or links to beginners programs that would be awesome.
  • Everyone said they seem to eat after they worked out and would often work out in fasted states and be fine...they wouldn't continue fasting afterwards. So I came to that conclusion, but I guess you're right that some people could just go eight hours after a workout without eating and be fine and it wouldn't matter. I do…
  • I struggled with this really bad and I tried out eating my carbs in the evening, and this helped a lot! I eat very low sugar, low carb high protein throughout the day and then eat fruit and grains at night. I find that sugary or carby foods spike my appetite worse during the day so I'm more likely to binge when I come home…
  • Awesome, thanks everyone! So it seems that post is probably more important for tough lifting workouts but for lighter workouts its not really necessary.
  • Frozen bananas in a food processor with cocoa powder and a splash of milk or non dairy milk is delicious. It seriously takes like chocolate banana ice cream.
  • Diet all day, I lost 40 lbs without doing any sort of exercise. Exercise makes eating low calories a little more manageable for some people. For me, exercise makes it harder. You will look better at the end with exercise and diet though.
  • I have a lot of success with low carb eating and I know you are saying you are eating low carb, but from your sample diet I do not think that is the case. I lose weight fairly easily not eating pasta, toast, or added sugar in sodas or a lot of processed foods. It's a sad life us PCOSers lead unfortunately. Either way…
  • You look great! Good work! I have a question or two for you. I hear a lot about people trying to lose weight not eating enough, how did you decide on your calories for losing your first 50-70 on MFP? Did you just go with their recommendations? Did you use a trainer or just design your own routine from what you already knew?
  • Uh man I empathize with you here! I never drink soda, juice, or eat a lot of sweets, drink a lot of alcohol, etc and my weight will stay the exact same. Usually people who lose weight from just cutting out soda were replacing meals or food with soda and were drinking a TON of it. From my experience, they are also often men…
  • I'm 5'3 and 160, I'd like to get down to 130 or 140. With being as tiny in stature as some of us are, what calories are you guys eating to steadily lose? Is 1300-1400 a good number or has that been too low for some of you?
  • You're bored and feel entitled to a treat at night. Don't allow the cake in the house, you are human after all. This is what worked for me, without binge items in my home I won't binge on them.
  • Any type of cheese sauce
  • water, your muscles hold water when you're working out to repair them.
  • I use a food scale, measuring cups, measuring spoons, etc. Thats what made this all so fascinating. I measured my food the exact same way when I did eat paleo/whole 30 and lost more weight when I was eating grains and more carbohydrates. That's why I was curious if anyone else had found their macros mattered but in the way…
  • You can absolutely eat healthy on a budget, what stinks about it that I've found is that you want to make something large and eat it for a majority of the week and that saves a lot. Repetition unfortunately saves money. I recommend making a large batch of veggie chili on Sunday in a crockpot or large pot or even ground…
  • Wow, this made me choke up a bit. You are truly an inspiration. As many times as I've thrown in the towel because it got hard, you persevered. I'll definitely think of your story next time I want to give up, congratulations!
  • As far as I know, I was counting points and not calories until recently because that was working for me but no longer is. I weighed and measured as much of my food as I could, obviously cant measure when eating out haha, so I am not sure why I did not lose more and why my losses have slowed on the second time around.
